Dance with Dragons: discussion

I am processing the book in quickly-find-the-facts manner, and am dying to discuss
Jaime and Brienne: Well, Mr. Martin, good job you do not have any signing events in the UK because I would have definitely attended and killed you with my bare hands. 6 years of wait, waiting to find out what happens to Brienne, and what do I get? 5 lines in the whole book mentioning her name. Her meeting with Jaime, right at the end of the book where she outright lies to him, telling him that Sansa is with the Hound (which she knows is not true: Brienne doesn't know where Sansa is and she thinks the Hound is dead), although she might be leading Jaime to Lem who is wearing The Hound's helmet now.
Quentyn Martell: And what is it with introducing new interesting characters only to murder them in the same book?
Tyrion: Ok, I got to the place where it is mentioned that The Mad King Aerys fancied Tyrion's mother.
Arya: I must be in complete minority because everyone adores Arya, but I find her sotryline more and more disturbing. Faceless Men and new faces = yikes.
Victarion Greyjoy: Things are developing way TOO SLOW.
Also - Sansa, Sandor, Loras, etc. - not in the book at all , it seems. But I expected this.
Oh, Martin!!!

I actually think that she will lead him to Lady Stoneheart. As brienne loves Jaime, she cannot kill him. But maybe she hopes he'll be able to convince Catelyn he's not on the dark side (anymore)...
Have you read the Cersei chapter yet?

Date: 2011-07-12 11:26 am (UTC)Yes, I think Brienne is leading Jaime to Lady Stoneheart, but this is mentioned so briefly and so cryptically that it made me angry. 6 years of wait for this! :D i think lem will be wearing the Hound's helmet so that Jaime will not suspect ahything?
I DO NOT THINK LADY STONEHEART IS SOMEONE WHO ANYONE IS ABLE TO CONVINCE. SHE IS MAD.

No, what happened?
I did skip though Victarion chapers, and although things are going as expected, they are developing too slow.

Re: Arya.
Then we are a minority of two. The whole part with the Faceless men just creeps me out - and the whole of Arya's plotline is too much child soldier for to find it fun. It's just depressing and sad.

You just formulated what I was feeling. It is all just terrible and OTT.

Date: 2011-07-12 08:51 pm (UTC)On the plus front - Jaime lived through book 5.
Now it's time to knuckle bite over his fate in book 6. Sigh.

Date: 2011-07-12 09:46 pm (UTC)I do think Jaime is going to be fine, I always thought so. MArtin does have some logic - he either kills his characters off in one book (Ned,Quentyn), or kills characters that are not really that important (Robb). The characters he cares about he is going to keep.

Lol the all Brienne/Jaime thing had me completely puzzled tbh. I didn't even understood.

Date: 2011-07-20 06:56 pm (UTC)I agree I don't think Brienne would just lead Jaime to die (at least I hope not) but either way they are going to be in some trouble when they turn up in WoW. You just know Brienne won't be able to leave Pod to die for her and then if she doesn't kill Jaime un!Cat will be after them both. D: I'm just so worried for them. But how cute was Jaime when she turned up? Omg <3 I can't believe GRRM couldnt give us a little more of them
I felt bad for Quentyn he seemed really sweet and Dany was so rude and dumb with him.
I loved the epilogue! As much as I try to make myself care about essos and meereen really I want to read about Westeros and that chapter set things up so much. I felt bad for Kevan but I liked Varys showing up. And Pycelle is finally dead lol

Date: 2011-07-21 02:53 pm (UTC)Jaime/Brienne's storyline sets me off on a worrying spree everytime I remember it. On one hand: Martin won't kill anyone behind the scenes. OTOH, if you rememebr, all the major deaths are somehow connected with the issue of honor (Ned, Robb, even Oberyn Martell). In my opinion it can go either way here - Brienne can leave the notions of honour behind and everyone WILL BE FINE, or she might stick with the inflexible notions of honor and everything will end badly.
I am not sure where Dany is going yet, but I want her in Westeros already. :D

me too.

I agree. There are so many plots happening concurrently, that each book now unfolds in smaller periods of time-- and goshdarnit, I want to know what happens when Victarion meets Dany!
I adore Arya which is exactly why her latest turn of events is more disturbing every time. My heart breaks for her, for what she will become. A master of death and disguise, but potentially at the cost of her very identity... it would be freaky for any character (I am thinking of Reek too) but moreso because she's this little girl I just want to protect D:
I want to know more about Loras-- there was this one place were it seemed they were going to say more, but the person was cut off from finishing a sentence that sounded like it would have VITAL information. SMH.

Date: 2011-08-09 05:09 pm (UTC)And I want to know what happens! With Victarion! with Brienne! with Loras! With Sandor! Hopefully next few books will have all the characters together.
Arya's storyline is so worrying. If it was anyone other than Martin I would have thought: "She is a major character. Nothing too bad will happen". But this is Martin we are talking about.
The news/no news about Loras were SO TANTALISING.

Date: 2011-08-25 05:25 pm (UTC)Quentyn: I enjoyed a lot Quentyn chapters even if it ended that way. I do believe it's important to have some characters who just try and fail but in a very... almost simple way. Does that make sense? There's something so drastically terrible about how nice and innocent Quentyn was, how hard he was trying, how much he sacrificied not because he wanted to but because he believed it was his duty to Dorne. And then he becomes one of the very first victim of the dragons. It spoke to me. I don't like those dragons. They might be all gigantic and fierce and Dany's children but... after the Bolton's, they might become my biggest fear in those books. I have no trust whatsoever in theml and I really wish they disappear.
But I guess they will have some utility against the Others. I hope so because otherwise they should be dead rn.
Tyrion: Tyrion in the second part of the book is more tolerable imo. Penny brings out the best of him. Aegon too somehow ^^. Tyrion doesn't know that but he would make an actual good dad ^^. If only he wasn't so bloody obsessed with whores and sex in general :/.
Arya: I do get what you're saying. That ninja school is really creepy. But Arya seems so more at peace rn that I'm willing to give it a try. I just want her to be a bit happy and if it goes that way... well... the gold piece plan was quite clever by the way ;).
Victarion Greyjoy: IKR?!!! OMG how much I waited for those chapters! I was dying to get to his parts and see him get to Dany! I don't know where you are exactly so I'm not going to say anything more but UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH #frustratedVictarionfanisfrustrated#
