I am processing the book in quickly-find-the-facts manner, and am dying to discuss

Jaime and Brienne: Well, Mr. Martin, good job you do not have any signing events in the UK because I would have definitely attended and killed you with my bare hands. 6 years of wait, waiting to find out what happens to Brienne, and what do I get? 5 lines in the whole book mentioning her name. Her meeting with Jaime, right at the end of the book where she outright lies to him, telling him that Sansa is with the Hound (which she knows is not true: Brienne doesn't know where Sansa is and she thinks the Hound is dead), although she might be leading Jaime to Lem who is wearing The Hound's helmet now.

Quentyn Martell: And what is it with introducing new interesting characters only to murder them in the same book?

Tyrion: Ok, I got to the place where it is mentioned that The Mad King Aerys fancied Tyrion's mother.

Arya: I must be in complete minority because everyone adores Arya, but I find her sotryline more and more disturbing. Faceless Men and new faces = yikes.

Victarion Greyjoy: Things are developing way TOO SLOW.

Also - Sansa, Sandor, Loras, etc. - not in the book at all , it seems. But I expected this.

Oh, Martin!!!

Victarion does seem to elicit extreme reactions; people either love him, or don't bother to acknowledge him. I couldn't help but chuckle at his "blunt instrument" antics. (Hopefully that doesn't make me a sadist.) And his story ended on such a cliff-hanger - "claim the horn with blood"? Eeeee. And maybe because she is back in the Dorathki sea, and also delirious from hunger/thirst/pain as well, but I am a little surprised (and kinda touched) that Dany still thinks about her sun-and-stars. ("Sun-and-stars"... still love the ring of that term.) It's nice to hear their love was genuine and she was at her happiest.
Jon is awesome, but yeah HBO Jon does zilch for me I'm afraid so...

I was never a big Dany shipper (I do not get how rape can turn into a Big Love), but yes, seh is still remembering him, which I think is compliant with the prophesy stuff - we had some prophesies about 3 Loves for Dany, didn't we?

I am afraid that it will be Victarion, not Euron in the "A corpse stood at the prow of a ship, eyes bright in his dead face, grey lips smiling sadly", that he will turn into another undead thing.

*meekly* Although I am sure many will stone me for saying this, but you know, in the book, I didn't get a sense of rape... I think GRRM said it himself, that Drogo possesses not only all the fierceness of a Khal, but also warmth and tenderness.
I am curious about Mirri Maz Durr's prophecy/curse.
Now some folks are even suggesting that maybe baby Rheago in fact never did die but was secretly given away by MMD (!).
People are frustrated with Dany's storyline, but I am a very patient gal so I am OK with her trials and errors.
The red priest keeps saying he glimpses the glory that awaits Victarion. Uh oh. I am worried this "glory" might be a glorious death where he is succulently roasted by dragon fire.
Victarion's story shows promise, I kind of don't want him to be killed off so quick...

I read the following as ra (I mean - she was hurting too badly to SLEEP):

"Even the nights brought no relief. Khal Drogo ignored her when they rode, even as he had ignored her during their wedding, and spent his evenings drinking with his warriors and bloodriders, racing his prize horses, watching women dance and men die. Dany had no place in these parts of his life. She was left to sup alone, or with Ser Jorah and her brother, and afterward to cry herself to sleep. Yet every night, some time before the dawn, Drogo would come to her tent and wake her in the dark, to ride her as relentlessly as he rode his stallion. He always took her from behind, Dothraki fashion, for which Dany was grateful; that way her lord husband could not see the tears that wet her face, and she could use her pillow to muffle her cries of pain. When he was done, he would close his eyes and begin to snore softly and Dany would lie beside him, her body bruised and sore, hurting too much for sleep."

One of my friends suggested that Quentyn is the part of MMD's prophesy - "with the Sun setting in the east (aka Quentyn - the Sun's son - dying in the east)". I like all that stuff about prophesies but I am not that keen about the stories of babies lost or given away secretly.
