Dance with Dragons: discussion

I am processing the book in quickly-find-the-facts manner, and am dying to discuss
Jaime and Brienne: Well, Mr. Martin, good job you do not have any signing events in the UK because I would have definitely attended and killed you with my bare hands. 6 years of wait, waiting to find out what happens to Brienne, and what do I get? 5 lines in the whole book mentioning her name. Her meeting with Jaime, right at the end of the book where she outright lies to him, telling him that Sansa is with the Hound (which she knows is not true: Brienne doesn't know where Sansa is and she thinks the Hound is dead), although she might be leading Jaime to Lem who is wearing The Hound's helmet now.
Quentyn Martell: And what is it with introducing new interesting characters only to murder them in the same book?
Tyrion: Ok, I got to the place where it is mentioned that The Mad King Aerys fancied Tyrion's mother.
Arya: I must be in complete minority because everyone adores Arya, but I find her sotryline more and more disturbing. Faceless Men and new faces = yikes.
Victarion Greyjoy: Things are developing way TOO SLOW.
Also - Sansa, Sandor, Loras, etc. - not in the book at all , it seems. But I expected this.
Oh, Martin!!!

I actually think that she will lead him to Lady Stoneheart. As brienne loves Jaime, she cannot kill him. But maybe she hopes he'll be able to convince Catelyn he's not on the dark side (anymore)...
Have you read the Cersei chapter yet?

Date: 2011-07-12 11:26 am (UTC)Yes, I think Brienne is leading Jaime to Lady Stoneheart, but this is mentioned so briefly and so cryptically that it made me angry. 6 years of wait for this! :D i think lem will be wearing the Hound's helmet so that Jaime will not suspect ahything?
I DO NOT THINK LADY STONEHEART IS SOMEONE WHO ANYONE IS ABLE TO CONVINCE. SHE IS MAD.
Have you read the Cersei chapter yet?
No, what happened?
I did skip though Victarion chapers, and although things are going as expected, they are developing too slow.

Date: 2011-07-12 11:29 am (UTC)I have read some spoilers that Tyrion is possible a son of the Mad King. Have you found this in the book?

Date: 2011-07-12 11:42 am (UTC)And it looks like there are rumours about Petyr having Sansa under his wing. Which made me smile because on the Round robin fanfic on the Sansan community, there is a Cersei POV chapter where she learns rumours about Sansa being with Sandor XD
Anyway. What is more interresting is that Petyr asked Cersei to let him marry Sansa when Ned was accused of betrayal and she refused because he's not noble enough.(in other words, Cersei wouldn't be a Sansa shipper either XD) It also means, I think, that Cersei didn't really want any real harm to Sansa... or she would have let Petyr marry her.
Also, it shows Petyr's intentions towards Sansa. Not that they weren't clear before. I mean, with all his kisses :S (Sandor wouldn't approuve XD)
I think that if I were Harry the heir, I would worry A LOT for my head once the wedding is over. I think Petyr might kill Harry during the wedding night and replace him in Sansa's bed (well, I hope it won't happen this way and that Brienne/Jaime/Sandor/Ned's ghost XD will be there to save the little bird)

Date: 2011-07-12 11:45 am (UTC)Yeah, before her ordeal, when Cersei remembers her plans for Ned Stark (before Joffrey fucked up everything by having him killed), she thinks that they would still have kept Sansa as a hostage to ensure Rob's compliance, but would have arranged a good Lannister marriage for her, maybe to Lancel. Sigh.

Date: 2011-07-12 12:02 pm (UTC)Poor Lancel, he would have been much better off with Sansa. Also - the idea of Baelish actually contemplating marrying Sansa makes me shudder.

Date: 2011-07-12 12:15 pm (UTC)But well, IIRC, she still had one of Robert's bastard babies killed, there's her general cruelty, the people she kept giving to Qyburn, the young friend who heard the prophecy with her and whom she probably threw into a well...I'm probably forgetting some stuff. Plus, while I felt sorry for her (seriously, Martin is a sadist sometimes), her ordeal was strictly the result of her machinations against Margaery. She tried to have Margaery accused of treason, so I'm not so sorry to see her hoist by her own petard, even if I found the drawn-out description of her naked walk distasteful. Ach, I'm of two minds about it! It's awful to read and I felt sorry for her, and then I remember that this is the very least of what Margaery would have been through, and that Cersei would have been fine if she hadn't been plotting, plotting, constantly plotting...I don't know.

Date: 2011-07-12 12:37 pm (UTC)My hate is almost reserved for the players, for Baelish and the rest (though I find him incredibly fascinating).
On the other hand, yes, Cersei was the killer babies, she killed her friend, and harmed so many others. I am not as much conflicted as I can't take her seriously somehow.

Date: 2011-07-12 02:58 pm (UTC)Instead of an act of kindness from Tyrion, we might have had more shattered dreams for Sansa.
And who would have been the MAID with the purple serpents in her hair... (GREGOR, BEWARE, SHE'S COMING XD)

Date: 2011-07-12 03:48 pm (UTC)If anything, this will explain why Tywin always disliked Tyrion, I thought Tywin was so family-oriented and there must have been more to it than just "he is a dwarf".
