alexandral: (The Legend - the legend)
(I am on holidays until Friday – HURRAY! )

My thoughts keep getting back to 24-episode Korean drama "The Legend". I rarely recommend things because everyone's tastes and opinions are so different. But here I feel I must. I keep thinking that I would love for ASOIF to be made into a TV series like this, with so much attention to every detail, the story and the characters. Yes, it seems to be possible to make a TV series with a complex multi-character story!

If you would like to know more about the series , please visit The Legend: an unspoilery, fangirly, super-pushy post by fabulous [livejournal.com profile] dangermousie.

I just want to obsess about COSTUMES in this series. Pretty! Unusual! Dresses! Armour ! More armour! Please come along and see! (in two parts). No Spoilers )

Korean drama "The Legend" keeps staying with me in a way ASOIF still does. When I am dozing off to sleep I am imagining future scenarios and savouring best moments of the past scenes. I have been trying to recommend it to everyone, even Mr. Alexander who HAD to watch a bit of it with me and agree that "this is good".

Also I am trying to figure out how a UK-based fan like me can meet Bae Yong Joon in person. I think chances of his visiting London are quite low. What is the next best location? USA? I haven't had such a desire to see an actor in person yet. If anyone knows of his close visits anywhere please let me know.

April Snow
This is a film with Bae Yong Joon made in 2005. It wasn't anywhere as good as Bae Yong Joon's previous film Untold Scandal for me but it had some good points, mostly in the cinematography which is laconic, austere and soft at the same time. The story itself have never been my favourite: two people meet after their spouses (involved in an affair) are in a coma after a traffic accident. On a plus side, the film uses snow and light quite creatively and this is so welcome.

"The Legend" (or "First King's Four Gods") is one of the best shows I have seen among Western, Asian or other period/fantasy dramas. Unforgettable. I haven't been that much in awe (and true awe, as in AMAZINGLY GOOD TV awe) since "Rome", I think. I'll try to talk about this show in a way it deserves later.. I haven't slept properly last night in a crazy icon spree. :D

But just in short, "The Legend" is one of the best TV shows I have seen because:

- AMAZING world building
- vivid and larger than life characters.
- costumes of fabulousness
- dialogue I want to quote now EVERYWHERE
- cinematography and battle scenes of greatness

- I am under a pile of enormous workload still but the end is nigh – the due date for the statistical return I am doing at the moment is 30 of September.. YAY!

- But my eyes are still a bit dodgy so I keep as much as possible off computer .

- I have booked stacks of holidays at the end of October and during the Christmas time (when I am going to drink punches near the fire and stay away from the maddening crowd) . YAY!

- It seems that we have reached a "penny drop" moment in doing math with Sasha because she seems to be doing better by the minute. YAY Sasha!

- And even more glee – she is going to start in the H. brass band at the end of October. May be they will give her euphonium? I am so keen on euphoniums! But may be not, it must be bigger than Sasha in size!

- The only thing I have been watching this week was "Buffy" (one must unwind after work :D) season 4 which for me is much much better then season 3. I think this is because though my high school days happened to be in the previous century my University days were not so long ago (1 year to be correct) and I can relate more. I just watched "Buffy Wants Beer" episode yesterday and it cheered me to no end, especially the moment where Buffy hit Parker at the end :D.

- Oh, and I also caught up with "The Legend" or "The story of first King's Four Gods on Tuesday (?). Fabulous story, it seems to have been quite a while since I have seen anything so coherent and well-thought through in Korean drama. I wonder if this is an adaptation?

This is so amazing that I am squeeing and making other incoherent noises. [livejournal.com profile] meganbmoore why are you not watching this? It is like a dream wuxia that came true and embodied every perfect and wonderful thing there is. The Second and Third episode (I haven't seen them yet as I don't have subtitles) are reaching the 1st place in the ratings and I absolutely can see why. Fantastic, never seen before special effects + outwordly story+Bae Yong Joon . I think this has a great promise!

Just look at this beauty that my imperfect screencapping can't show in full )
