Catching up on many post-holiday things. Including a very dirty house. Seriously! Mr Alexander + house + two weeks = I should have thought more about leaving him alone there! Also featured:

- Working with my daughter on her confidence levels. She was described as above average in everything in her yearly school report but there was a mentioning of the fact that she is afraid of making mistakes.. (But jubilation! My baby is clever!) At the moment I am trying to help her to enjoy the fun of doing new things and to see that making mistakes is fun. I am trying my best not to overdo it and at the same time I am worrying madly that may be I am already overdoing it. But she seems to enjoy things we are doing together so I can't be overdoing it too badly. Optimism is the key :D

- Getting back to one's work after two weeks is a bit of a shock. I am not complaining because I love my job to bits but Can I have another week of holidays? Or may be two?

- Everyone around at work is having new babies. I want one too! (Ok, I know it is not a fast procedure but still!)

But even though I am dozing off every evening at 9.00 pm because my body still thinks it is 12.00 pm of Moscow time I watched episode 8 of "The Nine", Turning Point yesterday. This was the start of the second part of this cancelled show (only 13 episodes but all great!) about a group of 9 hostages and 52 hours they spent in the bank stand-off.

I enjoyed this episode very much, it was very tense and full of suspense and unanswered questions like for example "What did really happened in the toilet when Tom was shot?". For some reason I feel like there is more to it then what Jeremy told us or may be I am just not that keen on Jeremy.

But whom I am very keen on is Malcolm who seems to be so composed but at the same time so firm (like for example, when he insisted that Felicia should go with him when Lucas took them to check the back door) and who gives wonderful speeches!

And whom I am even keener on is Nick Cavanaugh (and whose self-destructive last episode conveniently faded in my mind :D). This deserves a picture or two!!!

Pictures on Nick Cavanaugh played by Tim Daly because he is so manly in everything

1.He is so manly when he is sceptical about other people telling him how to do his job:

2. And he is so manly when he does this gesture that is a favourite of mine:

3. And he is so manly when he trying to support everyone:

4. And he is so manly when he is snarky:

5. And he is particular manly when he is worried sick about others

6. And when he is heart-broken

7. And when he does a half-smile

8. And when he is sad.

9. But my! His bare arm hand-cuffed to the pole is so manly that it does so many things to my hormones that I can't even describe:

PS "The Nine" is a great show and I am sad that it only has 13 episodes. ** sigh **..

Oh, darling, I love you forever and ever with the Manly Nick Cavanaugh picspam (ESPECIALLY #9, because YES, I totally agree!!!) But the self-destructive Nick was before the last episode – the last one was with his ex-wife and they were totally hot together (unless you think sleeping with her was part of the self-destruct? Maybe?)

I love how the rift between Ed and Kathryn is not because of Nick, but because of her political ambitions – I find this is much more realistic in many ways (because I think she is attracted to Nick, but she does love Ed and she has known him for so much longer) and also a very different kind of take, because she is a professional woman and it is not all for show – it’s actually ABOUT her profession. I love that! (And that she is so hot as a political commodity because of her experiences in the bank – which is also realistic as well as kind of horrible!)

There was not enough Nick in this episode, though, I must say 

You see, I tried to put the sef-destructive episode far far away in my memory. :D Now that you reminded me – yes,. it was before last episode. But Nick clearly belongs with Kathryn. :D

(I am so glad to share a joy of Nick's manliness with you ;D)

I also liked very much the way Kathryn/Ed story was developed. Really well thought-through. I have a little hope of more development on the Nick/Kathryn front now but as you say – not because Kathryn is a woman who uncharacteristically puts her existing relationship in danger for a feelings to someone who to all intents and purposes is a conflicted person but because she will need someone to talk to when her relationship with Ed is going to become rocky. (I liked the way she and Nick were talking like equals before!)

My dear Alexandra, I feel very guilty for even asking you this, because you've already gone above and beyond - but I am greedy for more Detective Nick so ... I checked all the discs you sent me, and episodes 1,2, and 7 are fine with the synch between audio and video; at about 20 minutes playing time of episodes 3,4, 5, and 6, though, the audio goes way slower than the video for some reason, and the rest of the episode stays like that. Would it be a terribly difficult thing for you to make me copies of those four episodes again? (And if you need blank DVDs or something, I can send them to you - or think of something else you'd like and I"ll send you that!) Thank you SO much!

No problem at all - do you think it is better if I do this after the last of the episodes is released so that I can make the new episodes as well?

Also I think it is a good idea if I send you .avi files as well as DVDs because unfortunately it is difficult for me to check if the new DVDs are going to be created correctly or not as the DVD format is different in UK and US. When I create NTSC DVDs (US format) I can't hear anything when I play them back.

If I send .avi as well as new DVDs and any error happens again you can always convert .avi yourself (it is quite an easy procedure).

Again - I apologise very much that this has happened!

Actually, I won't need the new episodes, because I have a DVD recorder now - I can just burn them off my DVR, no problem. (In fact, if you want the discs, I can make them for you :))

If it's easier, I have another DVD player that plays UK formatted discs anyway - perhaps that would be better for you?

And again, there is SO not any need for you to apologize - you are doing me an ENORMOUS favor :) In fact, I should apologize for asking you to do me that favor twice!!

Fantastic! It will be indeed easier for me to make DVDs with UK format because I'll be able to check their quality. And thank you for your kind offer but I rather like .avi downloads. I'll buy DVDs if they will be out but in the meantime .avi takes less space!

So - and I am making a wild guess here - you think Nick is manly?

I can't believe I missed this on the telly! *kicks self* Oh well, I will buy the DVDs when they come out...

Sadly "The Nine" is one of the canceled shows and now they just showing episodes that were filmed before the decision about cancellation was made.

In "missed this" - have you watched "The Wire" (greatest show of all times:D)?

I used to watch this when it was on (apparently I was only one of about 15 people :(). I was so sad when they canceled it.

I've never watched the The Wire. I know it's supposed to be very good but I am usually not so into the gritty, urban dramas.

I am so glad they at least released 6 episodes that they had filmed prior to cancellation. It also was a surprize to me - I learned about this from [livejournal.com profile] queenofthorns' jpurnal.

(I see you are in Lee Jung Ki period. :D So pretty!)

I think being a parent is the hardest thing ever, you have my respect and appreciation for all the hard work you put into doing it.

Thank you so much for your kind words, dear! Admittedly Sasha is such a lovely kid that the parenting bit is very pleasant usually. :D She seems to become much more confident during our Russian trip -seeing many different conditions that people live in there helped a great deal!

And you're right about how vital it is for kids to see those different lives.

Sometimes I think we are too wrapped-up in our cozy world here!

Well...I'm a big fan of there being cozy worlds to be in. For all of us. That delicate balance of enjoying the cozy and being aware of what's not so cozy is hard for me...I much prefer cozy. ;)

Oh my gosh, how could I ever miss Tim Daly? I fell in love with this picspam, but seriously, I can't start watching another tv show or I'll go crazy :-\ I've just started Kyle XY - have you ever watched it? It's pretty! So since The Nine has only 13 episodes, you can watch something else :)
Poor Mr. Alexander, I can't even imagine what he did to your house all alone, he must be like teh-mother (aka my mom) when I'm not around - she's the opposite of the idea of 'organization'!
I think that working on your daughter's self-confidence about the importance of making (good) mistakes is a good thing; I've always been afraid of mistakes and my parents have told me a gazillion times I didn't have to make any, and I realized recently that this is one of the reasons why I can't live some situations in the right way. So, go on ♥

*8 Hugs ** You always make such lovely comments, dear! (And you can always get back to watching "The Nine" in the future :D). I haven't watched Kyle XY but I'll try to!!

I am myself more of the type "Let's act without thinking about consequences.." but this also not always the best strategy. :D
