Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

I have finally watched “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” It was delightful in a good-message plus fantastic special effects and visuals way. Of course I feel a regret that I didn’t take my chance and watched it on IMAX screen when I had an opportunity. I would imagine that Harry Potter movies are spectacular on the HUGE screen. This is my second Harry Potter movie ( “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban”) . The formula is winsome – the young and powerful wizard, great friendship, Dark Lord rising. And to repeat, the special effects are to die for.
It does remind me more and more of Ursula LeGuin's "A Wizard of Earthsea", but this is totally said as a compliment, Ursula LeGuin is awesome in every possible way.
The Dark Lord Voldermort is the best part of the film, my applauds to Raulph Fennes. No wonder there are numerous fan sites dedicated to Voldermort around. I guess some actors can take anything and turn it into gold. Seriously, I need and icon of Voldermort, I am going to make a research in
realtanala’s icon journal and see if she has one. (Update: She had a great one!! I have updated my post)
Things I want to ask about:
1. I am used to the cliché way of portraying Western European people. I find it endearing, actually! Hats, half-military suits, dumb, betrayers. Yes, we do wear these hats!! I used to have one just like Victor Krum’s made from mink.
I missed one thing – Victor did try to kill Harry and Cedric in the labyrinth, right? How come Hermione was smiling to him at the end? Harry didn’t tell her what has happened in the labyrinth?
Victor Krum’s hat: (There are hundreds of fan sites for Victor Krum too!!!)
Update As I am talking about Western European stereotypes, this is my EVER FAVOURITE scene from Adam's Family : Youtube link for Mamushka dance This is so hilarious, I am giggling like mad every time I watch this.
2. How old are Harry and friends? I thought he is supposed to be 13?? He looks quite a bit older then that.
3. Did David Tennant play an evil underhand of Voldermort?
4. I want to ask this not because I want to laugh, but I just want to understand and I will be very grateful if you indulge me with explanation: Why Cedric/Hermione?

As for the hats - I loved Victor's hat.(but hey - I liked Victor. ; ) )
That said, I think Harry Potter is one of those films (and books) were the use of stereotypes doesn't strike me as that odd. Mostly because the whole Hogwarts/boarding school theme seems to me a rather British stereotype. Along with the evil and posh Malfoys, the Gothic surroundings etc.

Sadly no, but it would be very cool if we did. We do have a tradition for knitted caps though - usually in red like the one on the little girl here: http://www.dinhobby.no/index.php?ID=291
And if you're thinking Father Christmas or Santa, then well yes...

They are very good in cold weather, you just pull the flaps down and your ears are warm!!
I love the type of hats on the picture, I have something similar myself. It is not like we need them ,but!

Date: 2006-12-13 07:30 pm (UTC)Oh please! It was great fun! I absolutely love hats, and I think it's a little sad that people don't wear them more. I'm especially sad that the film noir movies hat and suit trend for men of the 1930's and 1940's disappeared.
Oo - and look at pretty Dean.:) I'm woefully behind on everything tv. Italy set me back, and now I'm caught up in the Holiday rush. Wha!

Last episode of Supernatural, Croatoan was GREAT! Complex, scary, great interaction between brothers. I LOVED IT!!!

Date: 2006-12-12 07:53 pm (UTC)2. 14 in this one. The kids were the right ages in the first film, but with production schedules the movies are spaced out more than a year apart as opposed to the books, which are one a year.
3. Dude, I'd totally forgotten I'd seen David Tennant before I watched Doctor Who! Thanks for the reminder. He played the son of the head of the Ministry of magic. He was put in jail for helping Voldemort back in the olden days. He escaped and disguised himself as Mad-Eye to get to Harry/get Harry to Voldemort to get him a body.
4. Why Cedric/Hermione? They're not together, so I'm not sure how to answer. Cedric was with Cho Chang, whom Harry liked.

I don't want to be nitpicking, but it is noticeable that the main leads are not 14, I kept thinking "Harry Porter is not allowed to compete? Why? He looks 17" He was 16 at the time of filming "Goblet of Fire" and sadly, in this age the difference is very noticeable.
Why Cedric/Hermione? They're not together</I Don't worry!! Some of my friends ship them together and I totally respect the "right to ship", I am just interested.

Date: 2006-12-12 08:02 pm (UTC)Harry and everyone in their class year should be around 14 through Goblet of Fire - Harry definitely would be 14 throughout (since his birthday is the end of July), but he and Neville are the youngest, I think, so everyone else would turn 15 before him.
Regarding the Cedric/Hermione pairing...well

I can't really remember 'cause it's been ages since I read the book/watched the movie. But I don't think Victor tried to kill Harry & Cedric. He was just racing them...???

Date: 2006-12-13 02:44 pm (UTC)I found it rather funny. This is one of the things about Harry Porter - the stereotypes everywhere. I think probably the author meant it like this, but I read some articles where she is criticized because of it.
As for Hermione/Cedric - I was just surprised that they haven't spoken together even once. This is an ultimate black ship, koala! ( I think it is great, actually, it is all in your imagination, it is like you have wrote a new book!!!)

Date: 2006-12-16 05:23 pm (UTC)Don't laugh but you made me very happy when you wrote that because I realised that when I first started shipping them, no one liked them but now there's a small but very loyal fan base and there's also de factor canon :D People use phrases and descriptions and terms of address from my original stories :D It's a funny feeling but kind of sweet :)

Date: 2006-12-16 06:22 pm (UTC)May be one day you can write children's stories! I think you can be good at this, the best children's writers have " a heart of a child"!!
But I am terrible Hermione/Viktor shipper , I am afraid. :D
