Dream High ending predictions

Haven't seen any spoilers yet, so here is my honest prediction:
1. Sam Dong is K
2. Sam Dong and Hye Mi will be together, although not in the way of "wedding bells", but in the way "You are Beautiful" ended, where it was clear they will be together even if they are not in the same country or something like this.
Me? I suffered the classic syndrome of Kdrama Second Half with "Dream High", my interest diminished considerably in the later episodes and none of the actor performances did much for me, plus I became quite bored with Taecyon (the main reason I was interested in the drama originally) at the end. It is all probably the fault of "Forbrydelsen" (or "The Killing") , an amazingly intelligent Danish show I have become obsessed with recently. I am getting too old for teen shows. I am a completionist so I will have to finish "Dream High", but after the episode 11 "Dream High" gets 6/10 (a cute teenage drama with kpop stars) from me and I will probably never mention it again.

Date: 2011-02-28 03:46 pm (UTC)Wait, do you mean you were rooting for JG or SD?

Date: 2011-02-28 03:50 pm (UTC)I rooted for JG at first but Taecyon 's acting is not the best so I cooled down towards JG considerably towards the end.
It is actually the deafness storyline (I knew it was coming, but) that killed my interest, I really don't like tragic illness stories.

Date: 2011-02-28 04:04 pm (UTC)Taec just isn't suited to be a male lead, especially if the other actor is stronger.
Yeah that sidelined me too. I was angry that they had to throw that in there. Dream High was perfectly fine without it. But he could carry out the conflict and made me really feel for him instead of just rolling my eyes.

Date: 2011-02-28 04:12 pm (UTC)I am so sorry - Kim Soo-hyun didn't do too much for me as far as acting goes ( I like his looks :D). I am a strange one on this, I have heard some really good things about him. May be because his character was such a goody-two-shoes.

Date: 2011-02-28 04:30 pm (UTC)Really? I think he's pretty good. I loved him in the childhood scenes for Giant and Will It Snow At Christmas. Yeah, SD's character is really a goody two shoes but I liked his darker turn in Dream High. I think if he got a meatier role he could really do well.

Date: 2011-02-28 05:33 pm (UTC)lol Well math was never my strong suit so maybe that explains it...
Exactly. How you put it is exactly how I feel. His performance taps into the insane crushes I had through high school and all my teenage angst.
I'm so glad that he's in such a successful show though. I hope it opens up more oppurtunities for him.

Date: 2011-02-28 04:14 pm (UTC)At the beginning I was rooting for HM/JG, but...IDK anymore.
Re: actors. I wonder what everybody else expected from the acting in this drama? I'm not asking you, but, you know, I never thought I was going to see good acting on it. What with almost all the "actors" being young and NOT actors in the first place. Like, with Taecyon. I liked him in Cinderalla's Unni because his character was awesome (then again, I think the child who played his younger version was so adorable and when I started liking him, I by default started liking Taecyon's version as well) and he did a decent job with it. On DH, I knew that he wasn't going to be just as good because he was surrounded by, well, not actors so there was no one to give him tips or, idk, "inspire" him or something, which is one of the main problems of this drama, imho. Since they're not actors and they can't act, they can only rely on their characters and see if ppl connect to them instead. Take Pil-sook/Jason. Watch them separately and you want to pull your hair out because omg, meh. But when they're together, their characters are adorable and they make me grin.

Date: 2011-02-28 04:18 pm (UTC)I guess this is what didn't work for me, after all - I was very interested at first but I could only go so far on cuteness and nice songs. I didn't expect too much from acting, but it sort of seemed fine at fine at first and only after a while the same facial expressions became too boring (The curse of Kdrama second half, I tell you :D)
I think taecyon actually has some potential.
What was a surprise for me personally is that Kim Soo-hyun ( he is a proper actor, not idol, right?) whom I adored in "Will it snow for Christmas" didn't do too much for me in DH.

Date: 2011-02-28 11:57 pm (UTC)Oh Taecyon has potential, but his raw talent has to be nurtured. I don't think he has much time to do that, though (I can't imagine how he could do that, if he also has to manage his musical career AND all the promotional stuff like doig varierty etc) so the next best thing for him is being surrounded by veterans, who somehow inspire him and IDK how to say this...sometimes something magical happens on screen and rookie actors can shine when they're paired up with veterans.

Date: 2011-02-28 05:22 pm (UTC)I wonder if we are simply too old for these kinds of dramas?
Re: KSH. Thought he was amazing in Christmas and Giant but he left me completely cold here. Must have been the character (otoh Taec had a very interesting character but acting wasn't there).

Date: 2011-02-28 05:26 pm (UTC)KSH: I am the same. I was crushing on him like mad in "Christmas". I think whiny types are just so NOT my thing.

Date: 2011-02-28 05:31 pm (UTC)Re: audio in 3k. Hmmm, could it be because they are mp4 files? I wonder if they would work better converted to avi.
Re: KSH. His character was a deadly combo for me, and not in a good way: whiny + clingy + naïve + bumpkin. No thanks.

Date: 2011-02-28 05:40 pm (UTC)Yes, the problem with the files is that my TV can't process mp4 too well. You can get a dedicated player, but I might just watch on the PC. Converting the files sounds a big job.

Date: 2011-02-28 06:36 pm (UTC)Re: Yang Clan. It all ends with a final battle during which the Yangs are betrayed. Well, Peter Ho's character is badly wounded during the final battle and captured by the enemies. Enemy princess falls for him, but he's obviusly not interested in hooking up with the princess of people who killed (a large chunk of) his family, plus he has an OTP he loves who is waiting at home for him. He just basically wants to be executed, after killing as many of the enemy as he can get his hands on. So princess makes a deal with her Mom, the evil queen, who would be happy to have him executed. Evil queen does some "only in wuxia" medical treatment which results in him losing all his memories so now he doesn't know he's a Yang or that these people are his worst enemies who killed his siblings and father or that he has a loved wife at home. So he marries Princess Rohypnol and joins the bad guys. Everyone in his family who's still alive, including his grieving wife, believe he's dead. The end because this is where the drama's narrative arc stops even though the Yang legend goes on and the widows all become warriors to replace the fallen men of their clan (and, actually, in the real legend, his character eventually, decades later, got his memory back and reunited with his family and wife, but I don't think that ended well, ultimately, after a brief bit of happiness).
Hu Ge's character, who's my favorite, does get to live and have his OTP (though obviously he's scarred for life by family deaths). Seventh brother dies in battle (and so do Papa Yang, brothers 1, 2 and 3). Fifth brother feels so guilty he could not save them, he becomes a monk. Mama Yang, Eighth sis, and the brothers' widows plus Six and his wife, become generals to replace the fallen, which is where the legend continues but the drama stops.

Date: 2011-02-28 07:06 pm (UTC)This actually sounds fine, it is a win-win: if I ship Peter Ho with his rightful OTP I can always imagine that the drama just didn't get to the re-unification part, and if for some reason I ship him with the princess I can imagine that later events don't happen. win-win.
Note to self: not to get too attached to brothers 1,2 and 3:D
I am gonna get back to it. I feel a bit of dissatisfaction with kdrama recently, but I need myself something drama-ish.

Date: 2011-02-28 07:11 pm (UTC)ETA: Peter Ho's character first appears in ep 13 but from then on through ep 21 it's basically all him all the time. (I am on ep 22 now and it might change there).

That's exactly how it goes, LOL!
Yup, I'm too old for this kid stuff no doubt about it. It was fun as long (almost) as it lasted. I knew what I would be getting acting wise going in so I wasn't really bothered by it but you guys are right, the lack of proper acting chops really did start to show as the episodes piled up.
I think that part of the reason for your boredome with Taec was that when they started to shift the focus on SD as a romantic interest they stopped giving Taec anything to do. He sorta faded into the scenery. :) A better actor might have done something with it but he's just not very good yet. Maybe some day.
KSH.... sorry mate, you are a proper actor but Sam Dong as a character just did not work for me. Meh!
The last episode was actually fine as an ending. They pulled back from the (pretty much unnecessary) OTP stuff and concentrated more on the dreams and friendship and supporting one another. That's what I liked best in DH anyway.
Where did you find "Forbrydelsen"? Care to point me to the right direction? It sound interesting.

Date: 2011-02-28 09:07 pm (UTC)Yes, I am getting too old for this.
I think you were right in suspecting a not-intended-initially change in story direction, it really felt a bit fishy. I wasn't too bothered at that point of time already, or I would have kicked up a storm.
Did Jason/Pil Suk get a good ending? I got bored with them too, but I still want to know. :D
I sent you a message about Forbrydelsen.

Date: 2011-03-03 01:23 pm (UTC)Taec/JG in the end actually looked and felt much more the real deal, heh.
I thought so too. He would have looked more believable in Sam Dong's role.
