Korean drama: Wednesday / Thursday ratings war: sitrep

It is getting interesting already!!!! I am a total number geek and nothing makes me happier than analyzing percents. My be programming.

Some of the things are going as predicted, and some are a total surprise.

In order of ratings:
1) Cinderella's Sister is doing the best out of the bunch (with ratings 15-16%). No surprise here , Moon Geun Young is an awesome power. Judging by everyone's posts saying good things about the drama , I think the ratings will go up when the story gets going.

2) Personal Preference is not doing too badly (ratings 11-13%) as well, which is to be expected from a drama employing two huge stars (Son Ye Jin and Lee Min Ho ), but the ratings seem to have dropped 1.5-2 % since the first episode. Hmm, this is not a very good trend which usually means that some of the people who watched the episode 1 didn't like it too much. But this can be a fluctuation as well. Have anyone watched "Personal Preference"? Is it good?

3) Prosecutor Princes: the lowest ratings so far (7-9%), but with an upward trend of 1.5-2%. This is where the 1.5-2% of the viewers who at first preferred to watch "Personal Preference" went. This is a very very promising trend – I hope "Prosecutor Princess" will be an unexpected hit like "Queen of Housewives"!!! EEEEEEE! I cheer for Kim So Yun and Park Shi Hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Edit: Also, in Monday/Tuesday slot female-centric period drama "Dong Yi" has ratings of 12%. Hmm, not too much at the moment, but the drama is very long and these long dramas often pick up ratings as they go.

I haven't watched any of the three yet, but I plan to. From past experience, I'll probably stick with Personal Preference (I usually already know what kind of dramas I'll like just from the promotional pictures and the premise).

I wasn't too keen on watching Cinderella's Sister, but since I've heard good things about it, I'll check it out. Dong Yi as well, 'cause.. well.. period drama with a female protagonist. :)

I am going to watch "Dong Yi" as well, and the episode 1 is subbed already!! I will watch it today!!!! I am still in period drama mood after the end of "Chuno" so I am so happy!

I will check all of the new ones at some point too, but "Cinderella's Sister" looks more like my thing overall. But I love Lee Min Ho (and I also love Kim So Yun
and Park Shi Hoo, especially Kim So Yun).

I haven't watched any of them yet (I'm waiting for the subs), but I guess Personal preference may not suit your average Korean viewer. Come on, there's a blowjob joke in the pilot? At least, that's what I read at db. Somehow I doubt that'll fly well with the ajummas and ajussis of my parents' age. ^^

I'll probably watch Prosecutor Princess, but not as it airs... too many dramas atm lol Kim So Yun kicked ass in Iris (can we at least agree she deserved the award more than Kim Tae Hee?) and I want to watch more with her.

BTW, how's Queen of housewives? Cos I watched 2 eps and I almost dozed off. I have all the eps and I was going to give it another try cos there're waaayyy too many actors I like, but meh, so not tempted.

So, what are you going to watch now? Have you decided yet? Oh Dong-yi subs for ep 1 are out already. I'll be watching it today woohoo!

I have still got some dramas that I neglected during my Chuno madness to finish . I promised myself that I will finish at least "Pick the Stars" and "Conspiracy in the court" properly before I start anything new.

I most likely will watch "Cinderella's sister" , "Dong Yi" and "Prosecutor Princess" as the subs get out, the rest - I will see how it goes. I want to marathon "Worlds Within" and "Tamra" as well, so I don't want to start too many new ones.

I thought "Queen of Housewives" was most hilarious (and it jelled with me from the start), but it is somewhat different from your average Kdrama so I can totally see it to be not something everyone will like.

I finished Pick the stars (I call it Wish upon a star) and it's cute. Don't expect a work of art, though, but I liked how fluffy it was. I'm 3 eps behind with Conspiracy in the court and I think I should watch it before the end of Chuno. It's just that I can't marathon that drama for some reason. It's too dark and heavy, if you know what I mean? I love it, but knowing it doesn't end that well kind of kills it for me. :|

Huh, maybe we could trade opinions: you tell me about Prosecutor Princess and I'll tell you about Personal taste. :) I'm going to watch the same things you're watching too + jejoongwon (I'm all caught up with it, yay) and OML. Oh and WW, me too, me too ^^ I've meant to watch it for a few months now (I already have all the eps), but never had time for it though I doubt I'll have much free time now (look at my tvviewng schedule!! TOO MANY THINGS, OMG LOL). Tamra is on my list too. ^^

I'm ok with htat. I've watched most kdramas that your average kdrama viewer doesn't like or hasn't watched: soulmate, triple, flowers for my life...I suspect QoH gets better when the couples start breaking up/mingling with other couples but I don't know how many more quiet eps that'll take. That's what's holding me back. Maybe ep 3 changes all that. Umm.

Yes,, the same for me. Also the story is very complex, so I find I have to watch AND pay attention, where quite often I just lay on a sofa and have cuppa tea and a cake , without concentrating too much. Chuno is quite a bit lighter than CitC.

yes, but some scenes are even stronger than anything I have seen in "Chuno", for example, the scene of the attempted assassination of the King.

Haven't checked out Personal Taste yet (no subs other than Chinese are out) but I can see why people liked Prosecutor Princess - it's fun fluff with a good cast. I totally forgot what was going on once I was done and I am not madly eager for next ep, but it's a very enjoyable way to pass the time.

Cinderella Unni is amazing. I really disliked it by the time it was about to start due to ridiculous OTT promos, but the drama itself is nothing like that - so good.

I think CU will win the ratings war but I don't think any of the 3 dramas are going to get Chuno/IRIS/Brilliant Legacy ratings. Right now, even CU's ratings are lower than even ratings of Pick the Stars were by the end.

I watched a little bit of Prosecutor Princess and the music really put me off. They seemed to have rammed some annoying pop songs in every scene Kim So Yun was in.

Y'know I think I only care about watching Bad Guy right now. It feels like it might be this summer's Slingshot/Story of a Man and that's the kind of drama I'm in the mood for right now. So I'll probably wait a while before I watch any of these.

Here is my confession: I hate music in about 96% of Korean dramas. Kpop (or any other Asian pop) is not my type of thing. I have resigned to it. Dramas where I liked OST can be counted on fingers of one hand: ALTK, "Chuno", "Conspiracy in the Court" (Mr.Kwak seems to have good taste). May be some more I don't remember. Remember BOF? I HATED EVERY SECOND of it's OST. Which was worse thing of all - I watched it with my daughter and there were no little sanity escapes in a form of harmless fast forward.

Y'know I think I only care about watching Bad Guy right now. It feels like it might be this summer's Slingshot/Story of a Man and that's the kind of drama I'm in the mood for right now. So I'll probably wait a while before I watch any of these.

chuno has left such empty space on wednesdays and thursdays that i am just desperately looking for something to feel this gap. not so used to watch kdramas (specially when i don't know anyone in there) and just waiting for my Queen of Housewives dl to finish. already watched Fantacy couple, get Karl
as for OSTs, i have to admit that i collect OSTs mostly japanese dramas though but at the moment listening non-stop to Chuno OST. it's just soooo beautiful and perfect. just like the drama.

You might like "Cindirella's sister", I have finished the first two eps and I feel a HUGE obsession coming on (such a welcome feeling, I also have been feeling empty without "Chuno").

Same here. I think I've liked the music in about three kdramas and that's it. Everything else makes me want to rip my ears off like the BOF ost *shudder*
