OMPH! I was informed by fabulous [livejournal.com profile] the_grynne and fabulous [livejournal.com profile] endlessdeep that the role of Eric is NOT missing from HBO's "True Blood" (TV adaptation of "Southern Vampire" book series). On a contrary, it is played by "all your dreams come true at once" Alexander Skarsgard. Who is Scandinavian, good looking to a crazy degree and 6ft 4 inches tall.

PS: Does anyone know any film he is in? Is he any good at acting?

Well I think he is rather good. He is the son of Stellan Skarsgård (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001745/), did you know? Also he is currently starring in Generation Kill.

I hoped you will can guide me guide in all things Scandinavian. :D [livejournal.com profile] the_grynne mentioned his father, also I think he was some kind of childhood star.

Are you watching "Generation Kill?" Any good?

Hee.Glad to help with Scandinavian lore. IIRC he starred in a Swedish soap as a kid, but I'll not say for certain. Also he has a very good reputation as a stage actor. So from what I can tell your favourite character is in good hands. ;)

And I haven't watched the whole first episode of "Generation Kill" yet, but I like what I have seen so far.

Nice to know - you are so awesome for supplying me with this info. I am going to check "Generation Kill" this weekend - "lj user="umeedmerchant"> likes it too!

Wow, I had no idea Stellan was old enough to have such a grownup son. :D

He apparently has 6 children of all ages and Alexander is the eldest (32). DOESN'T HE NOT LOOK GOOD?

heh, well I only know from the first episode of Generation Kill (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0995832/) but he was pretty amazing in it. so I'm guessing he can act!

I tried to watch the pilot for True Blood but I couldn't get through it. it is definitely not for me but I can how others might find it appealing.

Thank you so much for the info - I AM WATCHING "GENERATION KILL" as soon as I can find it! I guess "everyone will die" in it but it looks good.

I don't think this is your cup of tea at all (and believe me, the pilot is few notches more intelligent than the books!).

most of them make it out alive, I mean from what I have read. I am waiting to read the book until after the series ends. with things based on non fiction, I don't mind doing that. with fiction, it is entirely different story, I always want to read the novel before the adaptation! there are torrents out there of it. I'm not sure if it is on any streaming sites but it probably is, and of course it will be released on DVD eventually.

well, I watch some pretty crap shows. I mean the only reason I am not watching Gossip Girl is that I refuse to get hooked on another show like it. and I'm not saying this is crap or like that show, it is just that I've never liked Alan Ball's TV, I could not get into to Six Feet Under at all. and I've tried, believe me, I've tried, I did like American Beauty which he wrote(and he went to the same university that I did so I always feel like I should try to support him for some reason)but True Blood? I just can't watch it!

I haven't seen "Six Feet Under" and I liked "American Beauty". There were definitely flashes of witty dialogue in the pilot of "True Blood" and I liked most of the characters ( I am a fan of Anne Paguin ) .

With films and books - it depends for me. Sometimes I prefer to watch the film prior to reading. I am less bothered by any changes made in this case. The pilot of "True Blood" set me on reading of "Southern Vampire" series which I would give a total miss in different circumstances.

Ball can do witty dialogue but he just doesn't grab me for whatever reason. and I love Anna Paquin but not enough to watch the show. my biggest problem with it, I think, is that I grew up in the American South and I appreciate Southern Gothic when it done by people who actually know a thing or two about the region. True Blood just doesn't feel right. and I can't abide the accents, they are pretty atrocious. so yeah, it is definitely not for me!;)

My thanks again - I was wondering how good the accents are (for some reason they also didn't sound quite right to me, may because I kept remembering "No country for old men" and the accent seemed to be different there). However, Eric's accent will be good as he is supposed to be a Viking, so I am safe. :D

well, the accents in No Country for Old Men are Texan so they are quite different from ones from Louisiana, though there are some areas where Texan and Louisianan accents overlap a bit, though not in the area where True Blood is set. and there are quite a few variations of Louisiana accents and dialects but none of the True Blood actors' accents sound right to me. I could get past the accents if I liked the writing. it is strange to me how off it feels as Ball did grow up in Georgia, I expected something different from him.

However, Eric's accent will be good as he is supposed to be a Viking, so I am safe. :D

heh, well that does sound like a perfect match. he is a gorgeous man, and I do want to check out his film work!

I think he fits perfectly into my mental picture of Eric, he could not have been better!

I haven't seen "Generation Kill" yet. I think I might wait till after I see him on "True Blood" to watch that.

I actually pictured Eric as being a little older. Mid to late 30's and more muscular. But Alexander Skarsgard will do just fine I think. He's very attractive. :)

Have you read all of the books? I started on book one and gave up after a few chapters so I have no clue what happens later on in the series.

YEP, in a very fast manner, skipping a lot of things I didn't like (and I didn't like many things about these books). But as it happens sometimes, i thought the best books start after the 4th one.
I got hooked on the character of Eric-the-Vampire-Sheriff (see the guy above) so I mostly was reading scenes involving him. I don't think you have met him - I think he appears somewhere in the middle of the first book.

Vampire...sheriff? Okay.

And no, I didn't get to the middle, so I have no clue who Eric is. I barely got up to a fifth of the book.

But I have seen the True Blood pilot and think the series will be smutty fun. I am very happy about that.

And I love Anna Paquin, so yay.

They have some kind of Vampire government thing going and Eric is the area leader (or Sheriff).

Oh, yes! And I still hope it will last long enough to get to the parts where Eric becomes one of the main characters.

I don't know why vampire series always get canceled. I mean they can get to be cheesy and lame, but that's no excuse. Look at how many years Seventh Heaven was on the air for.

Me too. The pictures you posted of him were pure eye-candy. There is never too much eye candy. Never.

Hee! Angel and Buffy lasted 12 years between them! And may be because I am watching them both for the first time now, a few years after the release, I don't find neither of them brilliant. There are good points about these shows but they will never be among my favourites.
