EEEEEEEEE! Happy birthday to
umeedmerchant, my dear friend and someone who is so wise and interesting to talk to! I hope you have a great day you deserve!!!!!!!
And in honour of
umeedmerchant's birthday something I had stashed away for a while - a smallish collection of screencaps featuring Michael K. Williams in "Alias" (aka Omar Little aka small but entertaining role of Roberts) . Hmm, agent Vaughn has found his way into these screencaps too, I don't know how.
BUT OBVIOUSLY - Michael K. Williams says "Happy birthday, umeedmerchant!" on every single screencap. :D

Date: 2008-02-21 11:14 pm (UTC)Alias makes an excellent pre-bed-time viewing! And I had a shock of my life when I saw Omar! Do you watch "The Wire" (aka the best show of all times)?

OH MY POOR HEART! That was excellent! The whole Russian involvement in "Alias" is hilarious, from Derevko sisters to Sydney in Russian military uniform.
I have never heard so much badly spoken Russian in my life. The funniest thing was when they had a VERY FAMOUS Russian actor in a cameo role and he also spoke with a BAD ACCENT! It was then that I realized this must be the director's creative move. :D

Date: 2008-02-21 11:54 pm (UTC)Let's take a look at the three actresses who played the Derevko sisters:
- Lena Olin, Swedish
- Isabella Rosselini, Italian
- Sonia Braga, Brazilian
What. the. fuck. ?.And please, please explain to me how Lena Olin and Ron Rifkin managed to produce an Argentinian child? How? I mean, those choices were some of the most bizarre casting decisions I've ever seen. They were hilarious to anyone with half a brain... although the plots from third season on (when Abrams got bored with Alias/started on Lost) implied that their audience's IQ dropped dramatically. Sydney erased her own memory? And didn't, for one second, think that a wiped Sydney wouldn't do anything and everything in her power to find out why? What a waste of a season! I did like Melissa George, although I think I'm one of the few. And more Sark time = happy, lusting
Thank you for pointing out the director's creative move. At least they're aware that the accents were bad ;)
I do not watch The Wire! It is something I plan to remedy as I've heard it is certainly the most awesome ever. I just haven't gotten around to it. I see you and
If you insist that it's a horrible shame that I am not firing up The Wire, like, immediately, I might step on it.
Oy. I get inspired the night before a weekend tournament...

To give them credit, Nadya doesn't LOOK that Argentinean. I have a couple of Friends from Brasil and Argentina in RL and they are considerably different looking. She is a dark-haired lady but contrary to popular opinion Russian ladies are in majority dark-haired (blondness of Russian girls is one of the most bizarre cliché's I have ever encountered. TRULY – there are MORE naturally blond people in the UK than in Russia). Nadya was brought up in Argentina but her looks can easily be Russian-like.
What a waste of a season! I did like Melissa George, although I think I'm one of the few. And more Sark time = happy, lusting bzoppa.
I really liked her in "30 days of night" but not in Alias. She was too bland for me. Sark is goooooood in any combination, hoewer.
but The Wire slipped under my radar. Maybe because it takes place in Baltimore, Maryland, which is very immediate and real to my life. (I had an ex who lived in Baltimore and went on a few dates out there.) Perhaps if I pretend it's another city, heh.
NO!! You must watch it and tell us how good they portray Baltimore!!!!!!!!!. I have heard from few good folks of Baltimore (there is a Baltimore community somewhere on LJ ) that the city is portrayed excellently well. YOU MUST! :D

YAY! Good luck!

Date: 2008-02-21 11:43 pm (UTC)However, I looked up the actress (Carey Mulligan) and it turns out she did play Emily Pritchard. I have not seen the series. Should I remedy this? Does she have a decent role? I tried a rewatch on the horror that is 2005's Pride and Prejudice, and once was enough. Besides, she didn't do much but giggle the whole time, and I wanted to smack her and Jena Malone across the screen the entire time.
I also know she was in Bleak House but that's one of the "must read before viewing" books (Charles Dickens, and all) which I didn't quite get through. I lost steam about 200 pages in.

Date: 2008-02-21 11:49 pm (UTC)I think it is a worthy series, it is a little hokey but overall it was quite good and the performances were all excellent. and I just adore Jane Horrocks in general and it was nice seeing her in a more serious role than she often is cast in. Carey Mulligan has a pretty good sized role in it and she plays it well, in my opinion. her character might have could have come across as unsympathetic but I think she played her so well, that you felt for her rather than were annoyed by her.
the recent adaptation of Bleak House was quite good I thought but then again, I haven't read the book. I'm not actually that great a fan of Dickens as bad as that sounds!

Date: 2008-02-22 12:02 am (UTC)stubbornnesspride that I have to read classics before I can watch any adaptations. My senior paper in college was on Jane Austen's Emma and I really love watching the changes/subtle shifts from Brit Lit to appeal to modern audiences. Or, my heart rips itself to pieces watching the crap spewed on ITV's Persuasion or even that horrific 2005 Keira Knightley vehicle of Pride and Prejudice. (Can you tell I hated that movie? God, the thought of it makes me want to rip my hair out, that people will flock to that because of KK and the shorter length, and forgo the brilliance that is BBC's 1995 version!)It's a serious flaw I have, as it's keeping me from watching movies I want to see, like Jude with Christopher Eccleston and Kate Winslet—even though I hate Thomas Hardy. Everytime I imdb either character and run across it I gnash my teeth over "read or watch? read or watch?" But Hardy depresses me :( And I'm already depressed, don't need my escapism to bring me more down ;)
You won't be disappointed in "Blink." No matter how many times and how many people say it's so awesome... it really is. I've watched it a disgusting amount of times, and often will put it on the player when I've got a guest over late night. I love throwing my scifi/geekness at people ;)
