Episode by episode and I am already at the end of the season 2 of "Buffy the vampire slayer" and head-over-the-heels in love with it. It got under my skin :D

This season was wonderful all arond, but the most fabulous episodes for me were:

Killed by Death OMPH. So fabulously scary.

Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered So incredibly funny.

I have few little niggling things I must spill out ..But again, I must say that I love the show and the characters so these are just tiny things that don't spoil anything at all..

- I understand that Buffy is 16(17?) but when will she stop complaining on her lot in life (which seems to be pretty exciting at times) and saying how much she wants to have normal life? Is normal life so good and free from problems? Is anything stopping her from studying, holding a job, ect.etc..?

- Cordelia and Xander. I am not keen on them together.. Their relationship is not interesting for me at all and it is quickly becoming repetitive and nagging on both sides..

But there are many, many things that I loved very much in this season and among them:

+ Spike. And here comes my big question.. How comes that Spike in his vampire form kept so many of good traits (loyalty, love, etc..) and Angel in his vampire form is such a beast? Do vampires have different personalities? What does their personality depend on?

+ Willow and Oz. And how much I am already lamenting that this lovely pair will be broken eventually!

+ And EEEE! There was Wentworth Miller as a fish-boy in the "Go Fish" episode.

Gage Petronzi is a fine looking boy:

But he inhaled too much of scary fish-transforming mist engineered by mad Russian scientists and he is about to become a fish. Yack,

Don't worry, Wentworth! You will get to be a hero and a gentleman Michael Scofield very soon!

Buffy keeps that up throughout the series, though it's not always as bad. Cordy/Xander doesn't last long. I thought it was fun, but wouldn't want it to last longer than it did.

I think who they were before at least somewhat determines how a vampire ends up. Angel was a loser in life with a lot of hate, while spike was a mama's boy who didn't know how to have fun but wanted to.

I remain sad that Willow/Oz ended...and how...

It was fun at first but they seem to be saying the same things to each other all the time so I got tired of it. :D But on the other hand, I guess my dearest and I keep saying the same things to each other over and over.. But for some reason I like an idea about Cordelia and Angel much more, their relationship seems to be more serious somehow..

I like your explanation. ** puts it for mental notice ** The funny thing is that Spike is quite different from many other vampires ( and I love him so :D)

Spike is either a very simple vampire, or a very complicated one, depending on how you want to look at it. Vampires tend to have very simple needs...blood a good fight and entertainment. For most thats death pain maim carnage, but for Spike(and a few others) it's just having fun. Don't mess with him and he won't mess with you...unless he's hungry or really bored. There are others like that, we just don't get to see them be developed as much.

In a way I "understand" his POV. :D

Do others also have feelings of love?

Oh thank you for posting those images of Wentworth Miller. It's so funny to think of him in Buffy! :)

The Spike question vexes many fans because the problem is that it puts lie to the fact that vampires are fundamentally evil without a soul. Spike was able to maintain a lot of traits without a soul. I try not to think about it too hard :D

EEE! I was all "What! Whentworth Miller!!!! I must post this for koala" when I saw him in Buffy. But I am so sorry I am a bit tardy with GJ this week!

Hmm, I agree - Spike seems to be different from the rest. Well, I like this very much! And there isn't any other explanation as good as it is SPIKE (and he is special :D)

Your questions about Spike and Angel are good ones. Keep watching. Watch Angel the series too. (Which starts at the end of BtVS s3.

Oh, I am thoroughly in love with Buffy-verse (how did I miss it before?) and of course Spike. :D He seems to be quite different from the rest, it is interesting how it will play out in the future..

I just finished the season 2. I have even more questions.. :D Why did Buffy have to kill Angel? Could she not just spill his blood or somethinG??

Angel was the anchor that that was keeping the portal open in this dimension. He had to be sent through, all of him.

As for Spike, the theory is that when a person becomes a vampire their inner desires, their repressed thoughts and whatnot take over. You'll find out later that William was a poof, even as a vampire, and "Spike" is the act he puts on and eventually becomes, but William occasionally pokes through.

Oh my gosh, I guess this make s Angel a craz brute deep inside. ** shrugs ** Hmm, Spike is much "safer"

I don't think the inner desires thing is consistent - although the vampires do shed the inhibitions that they had as humans. But really, the entire mythos is extremely muddled, and it's hard to draw any REAL conclusions (because there's also this whole part about how vampires without souls can't truly love - and THAT gets all muddied up later on on both "Buffy" AND "Angel" later on.)

As for Spike being "safer" than Angelus ... not so much! But you'll have to wait until later seasons to see that.

Hmm, he just seems such a dearie. :D I do feel quite a bit muddled on the whole "are vampires ALL evil?" issue. The other thing is bothering me - You know, Buffy keeps killing 2-3 vampires a night... And then there is this procedure that a human has to drink vampire's blood to become a vampire.. Do vampires keep turning 2+ people every night? What for? Because it can't be just from being killed by a vampire.

Heh! I don't really like Spike very much - I used to, and then something happened and now I don't like him at all. Whereas I like Angel a lot from "Angel" and I think I'm transfering that liking back onto "Buffy" as well.

As for "are vampires ALL evil" the answer that the show gives you is definitely *yes*. Only the soul, in the end, stops them from being evil - not always snarly, clearly identifiable evil, of course, because evil is not like that, sometimes it is very seductive and quite beautiful, but ... in the end, yes, evil.

Do you mean the near-rape? I may be will change my mind but at the moment I have forgiven it..

I think I am bound to watch "Angel" because Buffy-verse is drawing me in. :D And though Angel is way two hot for one person I think I like David Boreanaz's looks more in the first season of "Buffy" where he is all willowy and slim. :D And it was also before he killed Jenny. The opposite is for me with Buffy who was noticeably curvier in the first season..

Yeah, attempted rape ... and then his whole soul thing which was basically like the writers were rehashing Angel/Buffy with a new vampire, and the actor himself really annoys me a lot and some of his very vocal fans annoy me more - all combined to make me really, really dislike Spike.

I actually never thought DB was all that hot - he's a bit Neanderthal for my tastes! But I still really like the character a lot - nevertheless, I was all about the Wesley on "Angel" :P

Cough Coungh.. I incline to agree. And Wesley! I haven't reached the point of Wesley , but doesn't he look like Nick Cavanaugh ?

No, he had to go through the portal in order for it to close.
And in order to have a sufficiently operatic ending.

From: [identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com
Oh, my apologies! I think I missed the explanation because I was so teary. :D You are very correct on operatic ending ! Now when I think about it I can't figure out why among all the vampires and evil creatures it HAD to be Angel's blood and life..

Date: 2007-09-11 03:14 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] queenofthorns.livejournal.com
Because Angelus was the one who opened the portal with HIS blood to begin with ... (If Spike had opened the portal, then it would have to be Spike who got sent to hell to close it, etc. But Spike wasn't interested in destroying the world, and Angelus was - even though I think Angelus is extremely contradictory and mostly this was just to make things all extra-awful for Buffy.)

Errrm, also don't expect the rules of what governs vampires behavior to remain constant - the showrunners kept changing the amount of the previous person's persona that they allowed to the vampire as a vampire, and they were never consistent on that front. If you watch "Angel", I think you get the best explanation for why Angelus is the way he is - the Angelus-demon has to live alongside Angel's soul and it's made the demon kind of insane, which is why he's SO AWFUL. Because contrary to many Spike-exalters, I don't think Angel was remotely a bad, evil, or nasty person when he was alive as a human - he was a happy-go-lucky wastrel who liked women and alcohol, but there wasn't anything intrinsically more EVIL about his human self than there was about Spike's.

Because Angelus was the one who opened the portal with HIS blood to begin with .

Oh, you see, this is where I was thinking why it didn't have to be the blood of some secondrate vampire-helper or something in the first place. Giles (and the Whistler guy) said that it has to be the blood of Angel specifically to open the portal. I was thinking here that either Angel is special or it is a little contrived plot turn.. but considering what you said about him having a demon inside it makes more sense..

Errrm, also don't expect the rules of what governs vampires behavior to remain constant - the showrunners kept changing the amount of the previous person's persona that they allowed to the vampire as a vampire, and they were never consistent on that front.

I think this is confusing for me a bit, especially because I am watching this in one sitting. I haven't reached the point about Angel's past life so I am just considering eveyrone's thoughts here but I don't have my own yet. :D.. I was taken aback by how evil Angel was in his vampire form (poor Giles! ** shrug **) but I liked him very much in his human "soulful" form (hmm very hot!).. And he and Buffy are so lovely together! And what you say about a demon inside of him makes sense too..

But at the same time I like that Spike has kept a good part of his human form.. :D He is great!
