Because I grew up in Russia I missed on interesting phenomena when I was growing up: Supermen in fiction. Somehow "Superman" and "Batman" movies didn't make it across the border and I watched my first "Superman" movie when I was already in my twenties. At the time I was so-so about it but I thought Christopher Reeve was wonderful. And then WOW! After awhile I realised that there is not one Superman, but many! And there are some really attractive ones like Batman (Christian Bale! ** Sigh ** ) At the moment my daughter is growing up and she is all for "Fantastic Four" animation and Johnny Storm in particular but she enjoys "Spiderman" too.

I am so interested to know if you have any favourites among Supermen folk or to hear about your favourite Supermen films. It is just a good moment to remember some of them in all their glory:

The one who gives his name to them all: Superman! Also featured: a tight blue suit that fetchingly accentuates muscular legs, short brown pants, soft boots of the same colour and a cloak of superpowers. But of course, the main thing is a lock of hair attractively falling on his brow.

Alexandra's broody darling: Batman. He sports lots of black leather and bat-like mask. He has a figure of semi-god. He is torn and tortured by his past. He is Christian Bale and this sums it all.

Spiderman is the cute one in the family, even though cuteness is an unusual quality for a spider. He has a sense of humour and he carries flaming-haired Mary Jane in his arms.

Oh, my poor heart. Fantastic Four!! There is a hero to choose for every age, gender and body build. Can you see how Jessica Alba is heaving her bosom? Quiver all the enemies!!

And to end it all up nicely : A whole family of Supermen! Incredibles!! They are cool, they are real people even though they are animated and they rock!

It's always been Batman for me, even before Christian Bale. He's so angsty. And I love how the comics and movies are straight out of Film Noir.

To think of it, I also really liked "batman" with jack Nicholson. (It must be all because of stylishness of black colour :D)

I remember watching the Superman movies as a kid. The scene when Superman pulls Lois out of the buried car in the 1st movie and the anguish on his face... incredible. Christopher Reeve was amazing. Perfect Superman.

I liked the new Batman better than the new Superman. But my favorite Batman movie is still probably Batman Forever, with Val Kilmer, Chris O'Donnell, Nicole Kidman, Jim Carrey and Tommy Lee Jones.

Never really into comic books themselves though.

I liked the first and the second "Batman", especially the first one with Jack Nicholson (OMPH! Clowns are so scary!) I haven't seen "Batman Forever" but seeing it has Val Kilmer and Tommy Lee Jones (thank you for the info!)I must watch it one day. But "Batman and Robin" was a rare disaster IMHO!!!

I am not into graphic novels too (I must add "yet" because things can change). It is just something that I didn't have as a child and may be now it is too late to start..

I can't resist Superman, he's my only one hero. He arrives and rescues you just like a second before you fall, while you're falling, he always arrives. And that makes me giggle like a fangirl *blushes*

And to say more, his very firm chin!!! I haven't seen the new "Superman" yet. Some friends say that it is very good!

How stupid I am, I meant Spiderman and I wrote Superman :|

I see! I like Spiderman too even though not to a Love degree because the films stretch the edge of believability - I think Toby Mcguire is very cute! Lovely smile! (and never forget Harry!)

I really like Batman. Partially, as one of the above comments say, because the story is so film noir and there is plenty of angst.

And also because Batman isn't an alien (aka superman) or mutated (aka the rest). He is just a very messed up individual who fights crime. (and sometimes he is played by Christian Bale - and this is good too. ;D Btw I'm terribly excited for the upcoming Dark Knight Batman movie. Heath Ledger as the villain and more Bale. Huzzah!)

Thsi is a very good point - for some reason it is easier for me to believe that someone is just having all these technologically advanced gear then to believe that there are aliens among us or that you can become a Spiderman after your are bitten by genetically modified spider.

I am so excited about "Dark Knight" movie too. I was very fond of Jack Nicholson's joker and I am so much looking forward to the new one! (and Heath Ledger is one of my favourite "He can make a nice Jaime Lannister" guys :D)

ooh - and another point in why I like Batman (and why I really like X-men as well), there is at times so little that separates the bad guys from the good guy(s). In Batman Begins Ducard and Bruce Wayne have a lot in common, and on many levels they understand each other- but the difference being that Bruce wayne makes the morally right choices in the end, and Ducard does not. I just really like that greyness of morals. Same with X-men and Magneto. The line that separates the heroes from the villains is razor sharp, and I like how that creates tension.

Heath Ledger is one of my favourite "He can make a nice Jaime Lannister" guys :D)

*g* Yes, he wouldn't be too bad - but he is not my perfect Jaime. ( I sometimes wonder if anybody is?)For some reason I don't find him sharp enough - if that makes sense? I've also seen Jensen Ackles suggested as jaime - and that too would work in one sense, but not in another. Ah..I'm fickle in my ASOIAF casting. ;)

I really like greyness in morals too and I tend to fall for not black-and-white guys (in fiction). Straight-out-the-box heroes I find very admirable but difficult to fall for. (This must be something to do with my love for redemption). But in RL I am different, I am quite level-headed and always choose the good guys. :D

For some reason I don't find him sharp enough - if that makes sense?

I thought he was quite sharp in "Ten things" but it is so subjective..heath is may be a tad too cute but he is getting older and it is less noticeable. I am not sure about Jensen Ackles though.. May be because I can't imagine him with long hair.

LOL! That is exactly my problem as well! I though Dean - long hair? Dean-long hair!? Um...no!

Up to very recently I also though that Jensen is not very tall . But no - he is 1.85! It is just that Jared Padaleski is EXCEPTIONALLY tall..

Superman and Batman were my first super hero loves. Christopher Reeves and The very first Batman movie I watched over and over when I got the tape. I really like Wolverine as well. :)

I must watch the new "Superman" one day! I had forgotten and was reminded by one of the comment of how much I liked the first "batman", the one with Jack Nicholson. n I am so much looking to the return of Joker in the new film, "Dark Knight"!

I didn't know about Dark Knight. Gary Oldman is in it again. I just love him in anything. I'm trying to picture Heath Ledger as the Joker though.

I agree. I was disappointed in the third movie. I thinks it's because Bryan Singer didn't direct it.

Sorry, I didn't vote, because I didn't find in your pole an option for me - "no one". ;)
May be because I'm from Russia, too, I'm completely indifferent to all this Supermen stuff. Tried to watch already in my 20s, but all supermen films were completely and helplessly dull for me.

I know! But have you seen the latest "Batman" - "Batman Begins"? I was very very pleasantly surprised when I watched it.. But again, Christian Bale is one of the actors I like unreservedly. He just is so good at acting. He is not picture-beautiful but there is something in him that more I see him more I am drawn to his persona..

Date: 2007-06-23 07:26 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] rika-66.livejournal.com
No, I did not.
You see, this type of films (about super heroes) is just completely uninteresting for me. I fall asleep on them. :) Not for me.

From: [identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com
Anong all of them I could only really rec "Batman Begins" for someone like you who doesn't like the genre. This film is just more "real" somehow..

For me it's Superman (http://koalathebear.livejournal.com/601019.html) because he embodies the ideals of what a hero should be. Batman I love these days because of Christian Bale but if another actor started playing the giant bat - I know I wouldn't like him so much anymore :D

I still haven't had a chanceto watch the recent "Superman" but I will one day. I liked some of the old Batman films, especially the first one with Jack Nicholson. But of course, Christian Bale is way too good in any film!

I would have to go with Batman. Christan Bale as Batman is amazing! The old Batman films I wasn't fan of though. I like Superman too. I used to watch Smallville and old series of Lois and Clark with Dean Cain. I enjoy Spiderman too. Though I think of all of the movies I liked Batman Begins the most. I can't wait for the sequel! :D

I see a lot of "Smallville" interest around and I am very very tempted even though I am terribly over-aged for this. But I HEAR you concerning Chrtian Bale - I can'r wait for "Dark Knight" (and it has Heath Ledger too!)

I've only see it here and there. I stopped watching Smallville quite a long time ago since it was just not interesting anymore. I'm not sure I would recommend it. I'm very excited for the Dark Knight. I've seen some pictures of Heath as Joker. He looks quite frightening. O_o

It is just that Everything is in hiatus and I don't know what to watch. ;D

I've seen some pictures of Heath as Joker. He looks quite frightening. O_o

I am sure I will find some good in him. :D AND YAY! MAwang's subtitling has been resumed!
