Different types of angst in one post
Sep. 18th, 2006 11:01 pm+ Dentistry angst : I went to the dentist today. I must say that I hate going to the dentist. I am petrified. My hate/hate relationship with dentists started long time ago in Russia and Russian dentists of my childhood were terrible. When I arrived in UK my husband wanted me to register with his dentist (good one) straightaway, but because I am so scared I didn't do it straightway and at the end missed my chance. When I finally had to go to the dentist two years ago it happened that the guy dentist I found was terrible. But recently the best thing on the dentistry front happened to me - our church friend's daughter is studying to be a dentist and she invited me to go and be treated by her at the university. She is almost a graduate and she is fabulous. I went today and she told me so many things about the teeth in general and how to look after them properly and also did the best check-up I had EVER! And cleaned my teeth! For free! And she is going to do my two cavities too! I am so happy!
+ Richard Armitage angst: There is a new BBC drama starting this October : Robin Hood . Seems to be a fabulous adaptation!!!! But how come Mr. Thornton ** cough, cough ** Richard Armitage gets to be an evil Sir Guy of Gisborne? I am sure I will feel for this cruel man more then for the honest Robin. :) Though Robin Hood is played by some young cute actor - JONAS ARMSTRONG.
- This is the link to the BBC website for the new Robin Hood
- This is the evil Guy of Gisborne (Richard Armitage) looking very attractive. And you can download him as the wall paper!
+ Angst is very very attractive in the case of Jerry Yan in Meteor Garden:
He is very angsty when he is consoling the girl of his dreams:

And especially so when he is beaten:

THIS IS MY FAVOURITE SCENE! Daomig Si is trying to pretend that he is not hurt by the fact that the girl of his dreams doesn't love him:

But then he breaks down and weeps.

And the fact that he is looking so very attractive whilst starving to death is tipping my scales completely:

Glad you got over your fear! :D

Date: 2006-09-18 11:12 pm (UTC)I hate the dentist as well. All the nerves in my mouth and teeth are in the wrong place or something. When they give me a shot of Novacaine where it would numb anyone else, it doesn't work on me. They end up having to stick me more than once and it is just no fun. So I inevitably lay there with my fingers digging into the arm rests waiting for it to hurt. It's so stressful.
I try my hardest not to get cavities anymore. I've had to have crowns and they are the worst. Well besides a root canal. *shudder*
I'm not helping am I? LOL! Plus I'm babbling.

Date: 2006-09-19 12:24 am (UTC)I don't have any crowns **Higs ** but I had two roots removed in Russia and that was BAD! I was told today that one of the fillings for my rootless teeth needs a repair - good job I didn't wait any longer.
I don't know if you know - in UK we have NHS (National Health Service) and can get doctor's treatment for free. In the case of dentists one doesn't get absolutely free treatment, but can get it cheaper on NHS. The problem is at the moment that not all the dentists want to take NHS patients anymore, they all are trying to go "private", especially good ones. Like my husband's dentist.
Dental students get to practice - they can bring in their family and friends to practice on at the Teaching Hospital. But in all honesty - it was the best treatment I had over the years. I think it just matters so much when someone cares.

They need some type of NHS over here. There are so many people that don't have health insurance and can't afford to go to the doctor.

Date: 2006-09-19 02:20 am (UTC)Oh, Russian dentistry! [shudders] Thankfully I never had anything more serious than cavities, and I was lucky to have enountered quite pleasant dentists (except my first one), but I lived in constant fear anyway. This is kind of embarrassing, I was so nervous when I was young, my first several cavities had to be done under full anesthesia (I only remember the gas and then being waken up by a very nice nurse). There was a clinic in Moscow that specialized in
hysterical childrenthese things and I had to go there twice (I was 5-6 years old). And I don't even know why I was so hysterical, the doctors didn't hurt me and didn't get a chance to do anything. I think it was the general atmosphere and all the horror stories.I wasn't afraid of my next two dentists, including a very burly and kid-friendly surgeon who did my first tooth extraction. Overall, I was very lucky.
In the US I had nothing but good experiences (knock on wood). My God, the approach here is so different, I'm still in awe everytime I go. And I get numb really well, so that helps, too ;-)

Date: 2006-09-19 02:58 pm (UTC)Yep! Russian people love their dentists. :) But I have a similar idea - I am positive that if EVER I have to have any of my teeth removed I will insist of the general anesthesia.
My first cavities were done at the school during the "dentistry day" when I was 10 or 11. I have never forgotten it since.
The situation in UK is a little strange at the moment because we have NHS (National Health Service) and everyone is supposed to be registered with the dentist who has a contract with NHS. When a patient goes to the "NHS" dentist he/she have to pay much less. But now all the good dentists don't seem to be taking any new NHS patients anymore, only private ones. The pay in the case of the private dentist care is crazy - my husband says that it could be ~ 100 pounds for the check-up only and I believe him.
I was silly and didn't register in time with the good dentist and the dentist I have found is not very nice. I have to look around and find a new one, I think!

Date: 2006-09-19 03:26 pm (UTC)I agree! How come that he looks so very gorgeous in the middle of deadly starvation? I can't comprehend :)
But really, what were the directors expecting? They should know better than to put someone like Th-Richard as the bad guy.
It is like when I was watching "Elisabeth" after "Doctor Who" with Christopher Eccleston I kept getting all the wrong perceptions and was VERY upset because of the Duke of Norfolk's execution. :)
