Tree of Heaven: I am so so HAPPY!!!!!!!

EEEEE! A new Korean drama!! Such a bliss! I was craving a good Korean drama for ages Thank you dangermousie for the rec. And such a wonderful, gorgeously filmed and full of angst drama! And lots and lots of snow. I have a thing for snow and I notice that it seems to be a recurring theme in Korean dramas and this always adds that extra into the story for me. There is something so beautiful, innocent and sad about snow.

Good things:
- Great pace, wonderful cinematography
- Doomed step-sibling love story. I know this is not a new storyline, but for me this is the first time I really want two protagonists to be together, no matter what. They are so meant for each other that it hurts to watch them apart. They only are whole when they are in each other's presence.
- Lee Wan as Yoon Suh is gorgeous. Undeniably, intensely gorgeous.
- Park Shin Hye as Hana, so lovely and innocent.
- Snow

In Short: "Tree of Heaven" is definitely worthy to rec to anyone!!!

Hana works as a room-maid in the hotel room where her step-brother and doomed love is staying. She falls asleep and then he comes in. He watches her, he is so desperate to touch her and he can't. But he is moving his hand close to her face as if he touches her through the air. And he says that he will always protect her and be by her side. And then he sees a photograph Hana dropped, the photograph of his father and her mother and two of them together. And he starts to cry. Very beautifully. And he is all dressed in black.


And he has no socks!!!!!!!!! Deep inside he is still the same little boy who thinks "If your feet aren't cold, how will your heart be hot?". ** sniff **

When I can, I download from torrent at d-addicts. It takes about a day for one full season to download, but files are usually quite big and of very good quality. I can send this copy to you by post if you would like, the cinematography is really quite beautiful.

I saw couple of things on Drama Wiki with him, one is "Let's go to the Beach" (This drama is about a hotel's lifeguards. The story will be based on the love between an illegitimate son, Jang Tae-pung and his half brother from different mothers, Jang Tae-hyun and the hotel owner's grand daughter, Yoon So-ra. ) . This looks like a happy story. I am trying to doanload it, but the torrents don't look too good.
I take it "Tree of Heaven" doesn't have a good ending.. I am at the moment now when YS pretends to like creepy Maya (I don't like her!!!!!!!) and Hana is running everywhere after him. That time when he was hiding from her broke my heart to pieces. I had to go for a jog to compose myself.

"Let's go to the beach" does sound like fun story. I heard he was good in "Snow White". Aww, I hope you'll be able to finish downloading it. Some reason I don't want to see his old dramas and just wait for his new one.

Yamashita's character, Iwase Ken, is obstinate and unskilled in love, but he has fallen for the lively and cheerful woman, Yoshida Rei, played by Nagasawa, who is about to get married. While attending the wedding ceremony, a sudden time slip sends the man back in time, giving him a second chance to make her his girlfriend. Sounds interesting. I usually can cope, if there is a purpose in suffering. Like in YS/Hana's case, it is a bad luck but there is no way they could be happy together being relatives. Even though I find it strange.. From genetics point of view they are absolutely un-related, but from society point of view their love is not really acceptable. But the strength of emotions really is quite uplifting.

But I am not into "terminal illness" storyline..

But the strength of emotions really is quite uplifting. I agree! It's very moving their love for each other. *sigh* I'm not big fan of terminal illness though I've seen many of those mostly films. But if they sound good and worth the suffering -SNOW QUEEN then I just have to watch no matter what. I just have to make sure I had full tissue box handy. :)

Ending: YS really wants to become a clean person for Hana. He doesn't feel he deserves her love considering he is part of a mob and has killed a man. The killing a man part he really didn't. The mob guy that he thought he killed (sorry can't remember his name) came after him and he stabbed YS. At that time YS was with Maya and she hit the guy with the car. YS told her to leave and he would take the blame. So as the police are after him he goes to Senpai to beg him to marry Hana. (AHHH!) He feels only Senpai really deserves Hana and can make her happy. He wants Hana to have a happy life and continues to promise to be by her side but as her brother. He tells himself the next time they meet (thinking it would take 20 years) that he could show her his new clean self. He got Senpai to agree to marry Hana and Hana agreed because she want YS to be happy. Senpai made YS promise that he would come to their wedding as sign of his blessing. On the day of the wedding, he came but soon left after he saw Hana and called the police to turn himself in but as he left the ceremony place a guy stabbed him. Then Hana as she was doing the ring placement the ring dropped and she apologize to Senpai and ran out of the building. She saw YS crossing the street but there was a car coming at him. She jumped out and they were both hit by the car. They are spread out and the pavement and they reach for each other's hands. GAH! They were brought to the hospital and they are in terrible condition. Hana will need a new heart and YS is just dying. He ended up donating his heart to her. However, she didn't know of his death when she finally recovered. When she finally found out she said this is when their love has begun since he is inside of her. There's so amazing voice over at this part and made me cry a river. I really love voice overs in dramas and this drama gave me lots of it. That's the ending. I hope all of this made sense. Please tell me if you need anything clarify. Oh I forgot to mention Maya confessed she killed that guy not YS.

I still need to see Kurosagi. I have it downloaded already though. :) It's okay. I'm just curious if I'm at the limit already. I don't want to be half way downloading a drama and it dies. Hopefully that won't happen.

"The Snow queen" was an exception for me too, may be because it wasn't really about the illness, more about finding yourself through love. (If this makes sense)

The ending sounds good actually; there is a hope and a future in it. Similar to "The Snow Queen" it gives us a hope that Hana will have a happy life. It could have been better if she had a baby though. :D

You're welcome!! I didn't think it was bad ending. Just I was a mess since he died. Yeah, I think it's hopeful ending of her being happy thinking he's always there for her. They will meet again in heaven- he says that we will meet again one day in heaven where there is no separation (GAH!). I agree, would have been nice if she had a baby. :)

If you are with premium account, on the duration of it there is no limit. Without premium account a limit is ridiculous (something like 250 MB??), but I noticed it doesn't always work like this, sometimes it lets you download few files in a row, one by one. And sometimes not. But this is why on jdramas they cut the big files onto portions

Yeah I have premium account. I just checked it 250 GB! OMG! No wonder I haven't hit the limit. I'm thinking I should download even more now. I've been downloading lots of japanese dramas. I'm trying to collect all of Kimura and Takki, lol. I would like to download some Korean dramas but I'm drawing a blank. The manager program a bit strange usually it allows me to download 4 files at the same time. Thank you so much for you help! :) I guess I'll have to download until I turn blue now, lol. ^^

AWWW, I loved the birthday scene when they kissed each other's tears. I agree I prefer in black. The pink and red combo on him just like a walking valentine it's bit strange, lol. I'm pretty sure it was just his birthday but they are celebrating their birthday together that day. I'm just sure it's his birthday because he said that it's his birthday so he will call the shots. I really don't like having them on dvd data disk but not enough room to keep them all on the hard drive. :( I would love to be able to burn them to actually dvds. I did that for Hanadan 1 for my mom as a test the disk was only able to hold 2 episodes and it took 2 hrs to burn. EEK!

I didn't like her dress too. The dangly bits and the flowers were bit much. I like simple dresses. :) I loved the white trench too! I want a jacket like that.

I think I would have not liked a Mob boss for a boy friend in RL. :D This is why I turn to fiction – to experience things I would have never experienced otherwise. Sorry, I am babbling!

I agree!! *sigh* I miss him. So many of them are good marriage material. I would marry Bokgu from ALTK (well considering he didn't die in the snow), Halu-san from Pride, Shin from Goong...umm that may be it. I think Tae-Woong is best overall. :)

I'm still watching 18 vs. 29. It's still very cute and funny. Though at times I feel very sad for the main girl since she can't remember anything. It's still very fun to watch and it's nice break from the angst. Sometimes just need a good laugh. :D I really wish this drama didn't have the typical 3rd girl though but I guess what Korean drama is complete without the 3rd girl. :P

I agree! I would hate playing evil aunt/third girl role over and over. I once read that some actors like playing evil evil once in awhile since it's more fun/challenge for them. I can see that but I think it must suck constantly playing same type of evil role. They probably get harassed in public too. One of the Hanadan extra things I read the actress that plays Domoyoji's mom was yelled at my teenage girls to stop being mean to Makino, lol. Sometimes people really forget they are just actors. Oh, reminds me I saw what Rui is wearing to prom...a full on white suit!! GAHHH!!! It's like a dream come true. ^^*sigh* I tried to make some caps off of youtube to show you (sorry looks pretty bad):
