Rome: Son of Hades

Oh, I loved it! Another great episode plus am I reconciled with Cleopatra. She and Mark Antony had an amazingly charged scene, and YAY! What was that dress made of? Golden pieces? Whatever it was, it was stunning.
Vorenus breaking the statue of Goddess was an absolutely awesome scene. He really wants to die and is taunting Gods to kill him. Though this breaks my heart I feel in awe of his unlimited despair and unlimited new power. Because he is not afraid of anything anymore and this makes him a very dangerous man indeed. On the other hand Pullo is happily married and this makes him softer (and in a wonderful way, I cried during the scene where he shaves Vorenus's beard, so touching). And the seeds of their discord are already sown.
I have a wild guess that Gaia will be a new romantic interest for Vorenus. :D
As to the others, Mark Antony became really quite a frightening figure and a "wild beast " indeed. Plus all props for Max Pirkis.
I guess I like this show like no other because I can not stop making icons. :D They are free to share (if you like I will make customizations, like text and etc., for you) and mostly reflect my new-found love for Cleopatra. :

Me too. I actually had to pause the recording a little. And isit just me or is Rome twice as intense in this season? I feel like I'm on an emotional roller coaster ride each time!
I agree that the scene with Vorenus smashing the statue was amazing, and in retrospect it has made me think of a scene from season one where he throws a party and the statue of a deity they have displayed gets smashed. Then he is very concerned and nervous. What a difference from "Son of hades"!
But the scene depicted in icon #10 makes me think that Vorenus is also a little worried about the path he is treading.
I also adored the little scene between Pullo and Eirene. She is starting to talk back! "Shave or no kiss". Hee! Its good to see her acting more like a wife and less as a slave.
And..oh there were so many things I loved about this episode. I tried collecting some thoughts in my LJ, but it was such a wonderful episode that I feel like I haven't covered half!

You are awesome - I absolutely missed this, but it is indeed there. I am going to find out which statue was broken in season 1 and 2. YAY!

oh, definitely. I think it is only his loyalty that keeps him going, and in a away I admire his loyalty because it feels like all he wants for himself is to make a new life with the lovely young wife.

I thought about this too, and it was made in a very loving way so I am so happy for him!! But it is going to be a situation of season 1 in reverse again - there we had Naiobe complaining about Pullo and now Irene will be complaining about Vorenus. :D
And I can't wait to go and read your post!!!!!! I agree - this season they give us great emotions, and also the season is exceptionally good from the first episode.

Date: 2007-01-22 09:50 pm (UTC)In this episode, he breaks the symbol of “Concord” – or peace – which is hugely significant. For one thing because Vorenus, by killing Erastes, has already broken the ‘concord’ of the Aventine (and that’s why Marc Antony needs another, essentially, mob boss to take over.) Secondly, I think it is a symbol that for Vorenus, he exists now in a state of perpetual war – concord has no place in his life.

This is so true and so heart-breaking. :(
I don't think Vorenus lost his faith, though. I think he wants a punishment from Gods on himself personally, now that he lost everything. A scary thing to do - to call punishment from Gods.

Date: 2007-01-22 10:06 pm (UTC)Thank you! I was wondering about this too. I just remembered the head smashing, but couldn't for the life of me remember which deity. :)
It's especially interesting that it was Janus, since, IIRC, he was also a god of transitions and changes. For that reason the doors of his temple were left open during war (so that a swift change could come) - but was closed during peace times(when stability was desired). That might be a further link to the smashing of the concord statue.
