alexandral: (Jude- tearing me to tatters)

I have watched 3 (!!!) films with Christopher Eccleston this weekend:

Elizabeth: I enjoyed this film greately, mostly because Cate Blanchett is absolutely amazing as Elizabeth, who for me was very Dany Targaryen – like and undeniably beautiful. Cate Blanchette and very talented cinematograph (bravo, Remi Adefarasin, who also did one of my favourite films, "House of Mirth") make this film to be very special. The scene of French suitor’s arrival is so bright and colourful and funny.

I am not so sure about Joseph Fiennes as Robert Dudley. Gosh, the guy’s eyes are far too close together and I am all confused about his feelings for Elizabeth. I like Geoffrey Rush as Sir Francis Walsingham, but his character and plotlines involved don’t seem original to me (I must be watching too many films ;). Christopher Eccleston ( Duke of Norfolk) does a splendid job and looks very attractive and commanding even in the funny trousers.

Invisible Circus: I didn’t like it that much at all and don’t have much to say.

Jude: O my poor heart! This is such a wonderful film. Filmed exquisitely, full of bright colours and beauty. Of course, I could have lived my life very well without scene of Sue’s labour as close-up, but otherwise it is fantastic. Christopher Eccleston and Kate Winslet shine together.

But – it is so upsetting! And I could feel this cloud of doom hanging around from the very beginning. It is like a contradiction for me – film visually quite feisty and cheerful, but something is always there that is hiding in a corner. And when the tragedy comes, it is so cruel and breaking that every time I remember it I want to cry. I want to cry because it is so wrong that a child can do such a thing as killing himself and his sisters. You know, like it is written in “Turn of the Screw” that an idea of evil residing in a child is somehow so much more frightening.

And I was even more upset because Sue’s beliefs didn’t withstand this tragedy. And I love Jude so much more because his love did endure. He rips my heart out. And fills it with love.

I just need a little of "Bleak House" now, that is all..

I love Elizabeth - and I can see what you mean by being very Dany Targaryen. ;) I remember the first time I watched it, I didn't know who Chris Eccleston was, yet I was incredibly intrigued by his character and his acting. I love his "look" in this film quite a lot as well. I would like to see Jude, but I don't think it's available in the U.S. (I think it went out of print).

I love Elizabeth's character - I can only imagine myself in my teen years in situation where everyone around me hates me and plots against me, but I didn't do anything wrong. When people I think love me and whom I trust are lying to me (I recently have read a bit in ASOIF about Mormont's betrayal and it is still burning in me. BUT -Ser Barristan was found!!!! ). And to survive you must cut of a best part of yourself. **Sighs** Being a queen doesn't seem to be such a good thing after all..

I like CE very much with beard in "Elizabeth". He seems to be one of these men who look good with the beard. And the whole Duke of Norfolk aura suited him very well. Powerful man who did a mistake.

I want to get my own copy of Jude, I think. It is not an easy film, but I love it. Can you play UK DVD's (region 1 I think)?

Jude is one of the best and most depressing movies (and books), I've ever come across. But yeah, I've seen and read it once and have no desire to do so again.

I am in the minority but I couldn't stand 'Elizabeth' because a lot of history just came across as wrong to me. Plus, I don't like Blanchett (I think it's retroactive dislike because I hated her portrayal of Hepburn in 'The Aviator').

Jude just about broken my heart. I would like to own it because it is such a beautiful film at the same time. I am just afraid I will not have a chance to own it unless I buy it now.

I understand your feelings about Elizabeth - I can think of many flaws in it and it all hangs well together for me only because I liked Blanchett's performance in it so much. If you take it out for me, the film itself is not anything exceptional.

Oh, you saw Jude. Isn't it just gut-wrenching? It hurt so much to watch; as I said before, I'm glad that I saw it, but I never ever want to see it again. Grim, grim, grim.

I thought that CE was very good in Elizabeth - very commanding!

Pop in some North and South to feel the Mr. Thornton glee!

I think I will watch it again, there was so much love in it, I already feel that I would like to re-visit my favourite romance scenes. ;) I am sure not to watch the ending, though ;)

Mr. Thornton - is amazing ;)
