Mark Strong needs to come asap to GOT casting <3 I know everyone wants him to Stannis (he would be perfect yep) but I wouldn't mind him as Victarion either actually :p.
NOOOOOOOOOOO! He is too old for Victarion. I want Idris Elba for Victarion and will not stand for less ( http://goodfilmguide.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Idris-Elba.jpg ).
I thought 35-40 ish, but not older than that, he still can kill people with bare hands;D. I think he is described somewhere as very tall and strong, axe-wielding type. Idris Elba iss 40 though.
Yep and a couple of time is described with a flat muscled stomach and *insert glee and fangirlism*
Lol. I don't know. Idris Elba looks very good and I wouldn't mind his body on my screen XD but I always pictured every Greyjoy very pale, dark ébene hair a bit messy because of the salty winds and blue striking eyes. That's why I was a bit bumed out when I first saw TV!Theon. He looks nothing like a Greyjoy. Those people are vikings practically (minus the blond hair).
VIKINGS!!! - My brain switches off and fangirlism continues.
Yes, I don't think Idris Elba fits the physical description, but there is just something about him that fits my understanding of the charcter (apart from flat stomach). He plays conflicted very well.
I pictured them to be dark, as in dark hair and olive skin, don't know why.
Me too! But I am scared they are going to rename Asha as they said. :(
OMPH! Mads would have made my perfect Euron, he does crazy so well! ** fingers crossed ** I don't see James Purefoy in this role (as some suggested), though, NOT AT ALL. I love the guy but he does not have a gravity of a viking.
I don't think Purefoy would fit for any Greyjoy either as much as I love him. The first time I heard it I was happy then after 5 min I was "oh wait not for the Greyjoy's".
I believe he would make a very good Mance Rayder on the other hand.
They better not carry that rename thing. It's ridiculous not to mention insulting to the viewers intelligence.
Mads would be so incredible. I don't even know why the fandom isn't all over this but people are more looking for the Stannis/Mel/Davos cast so it's only fair.
Oh God, Mads Mikkelsen would be incredible, although it's not at all how I imagined Euron. Tbh I imagined Euron less serious and with more trolling, and somehow I think Mads would play him more seriously. But I want someone with more of a smile on his face to play Euron. He's a pirate troll, he must smile! ;D
Mhm, yeah. Makes sense. But I still won't be too disappointed to see someone else in the role. I hope they won't cut Damphair from the show, he's hilarious. Actually I find all of the Greyjoys hilarious, I just can't take any of them seriously.
Haven't seen that one. The title alone sounds like fun, though.
I think it is all good and dandy to cast the characters as close as they look in the books, but I honestly wouldn't have minded them to through the physical descriptions out of the window and give us more diversity.
I want Idris Elba for any other role, if I can. ;D
Dothraki were a a bit too European for my tastes - why go through all the trouble of creating a new language if you are going to cast white-looking folks? My mind boggles.
He wouldn't make a bad Victarion, but his acting talent would be wasted there ... not to mention that everyone would be confused by him looking more like Stannis than whoever plays stannis. ;D
I think he'd make a fabulous everyone, at least as long as the looks halfway fit (with hair and make-up und all). We could just cast Mark Strong in several roles, no? ;)
It's funny how it took me ages to realise that, because Stannis is my favourite ASOIAF character and Mark Strong is my favourite actor. But now that I finally noticed, I really wish there will be a miracle and Mark Strong randomly decides to ignore half his movie career to play Stannis. Very likely, I know. But he would be so perfect... that man can ACT. As in make 90% of actors look like amateurs.
He is also ridiculously hot and has the most beautiful hands. *points to icon*
** laughs ** I thought it was your "Stannis also smiles" icon. Everyone seems to want him for Stannis, including me. If this turns out to be truth I will turn into such a Stannis stan (sounds good - Stannis stan).
Haha, no, I had that icon before I even knew who Stannis was. I love Mark Strong, I've seen so much of his work and he's really one of the best actors I've ever seen in anything. Watch The Long Firm, if you haven't yet. It's one of the few things in which Mark actually plays the lead and not just a small role. And while he can nail a role with just three minutes screen time, he does even better when he gets a more important part.
If they somehow manage to get him for the role, my joy will know no bounds. I'm almost wishing here that Mark's career hadn't taken off so much in the last years, what with him getting one movie part after the other. I hate the word "stan", but it's oddly fitting for Stannis. ;D
** laughs ** See, I made all that up. I was fond of him always, but he was a total scene-stealer in "Sherlock Holmes".
I WOULD LOVE to have him as Stannis. Another favourite choice of mine is Christopher Eccleston , again, if he joins the show as Stannis, I will be the biggest Stannis fan in the universe.
I hate the word "stan", but it's oddly fitting for Stannis. ;D
I am not fond of it too, I am so old fashioned. And the next time someone is going to use the world flawless - I might scream. I like the word, but it is used too often.
Yes. I adored him so much in Sherlock Holmes (and him having the cutest, most evil fluffy sidekick ever was another plus). It impresses me that he steals every scene he's in, ad yet he still never makes the other actors look back. It's impressive.
Christopher Eccleston would be good, too, I wouldn't mind him, of all the possible actors whose names I've heard thrown around. Unfortunately people often suggest actors who are way too old. Even considering that the show ages everyone up (Stannis, like Ned&Robert, is in his mid-30s, but they were also placed by actors in their 40s ... or even 50s by now?) ... I don't want an old guy past 60 to play Stannis, it would just look weird.
Haha, I'm okay with "flawless", although it is a bit overused. But "stan" makes me want to throw things at people. Especially when used as verb.

Date: 2011-07-18 10:55 pm (UTC)and this series is in desperate need of diversity! even the dothraki, a people supposedly copper skinned, were very european looking!
of course this will never happen since theon was already cast and is, wait for it, european.
