Rookie Blue and other things

Happy belated birthday to the loveliest
miss_dian!!!!!!!!!!! ** smooches, hugs, confetti and lots of delicious cake you way ! **
I have almost disappeared from the face of the Earth yesterday because I had a fast and furious love affair with Canadian show "Rookie Blue". Watching the first season in 2 days (13-episodes), yes I can do it! My verdict is: I definitely like Canadian shows, especially Rookie Blue. Rookie Blue is for you if:
- You like women-centric shows. There are 4 strong main female characters in the show (two of them are women of colour) , doing all sorts of awesome things like catching bad guys, winning boxing contests, being good friends and being good mothers and daughters too.
- You like buddy cop shows. Rookie Blue is a Holy Grail of buddy cop shows, in all gender/age combinations.
- You like bromance shows. Chris and Dov are really cute together. There are so many absolutely hilarious scenes with these two. Gregory Smith and Travis Milne have perfect chemistry and comedy timing together.

I did end up shipping a non-canon ship, though, which is really unusual for me. But judge for yourself: what could I do? I know that Andy seems to be happy with lovely homicide detective Luke Callaghan, who is excessively cute and possesses all sorts of good qualities. And he is good looking too.. But I just loved her friendship dynamics with Sam Swarek, her friend and mentor. He just seems to understand her better and he is the only person apart from her best friend Traci whom she lets through her defences.
This is their first meeting: she arrested him on her first day and destroyed his undercover mission:

Date: 2011-04-21 02:00 pm (UTC)And omg I've seen the actress who plays Andy before. *thinks* Er, was she in a movie with...*thinks* Jeff Bridges? And she was like a gymnast?!? I'm not sure.
And don't worry about StS, seriously. Take all the time you need.

Date: 2011-04-21 02:23 pm (UTC)I'm too lazy to check her imdb, but I'm sure I've seen her before.
Dude, don't worry. I like it, but I'm not obsessed. Except that I REALLY, REALLY need to know about Jackson/Amy, but yeah, I can wait. How's it possible I'm almost more taken with Jackson than Jung-woo? Gah. I'm also behind my schedule. I have 2 eps of 49 days and I haven't had time to watch them. :((((

Date: 2011-04-21 02:37 pm (UTC)I am the same. I really like StS but it is not an obsession.

Date: 2011-04-26 08:47 am (UTC)Re: sts
Date: 2011-04-26 08:41 pm (UTC)I mean, come ON, how long did it took to Tae-hyuk to actually realize Jung-woo was his hyung? There were so MANY hints and let's not even talk about the scene where Soo-hyun pretty much tells him so and THEN Jung-woo shows up and Tae-hyuk doesn't pick up the weird vibe going on let alone her panicking? And the chairman? For all that the drama keep telling us how smart he is, he stil lhasn't figured out who is son is? Wtf? Esp after the scene where JW was CRYING in front of his mother's portrait and daldkaldsja omg, how am I supposed to be believe Il-hwa/the Chairman is this epically evil mastermind and yet he can't pierce the obvious truth together? o_O Er
Sorry if this is too harsh, but I'm a bit disappointed. As for Soo-hyun, GAH! I'm not even commenting on her.
Re: sts
Date: 2011-04-26 10:49 pm (UTC)I think with the chairman it is pretty believable, though. He is smart, but in a one-focus way, which is going to bring him down. He decided at some point on who he think JW is, put a peg on him, so to speak, and it won't even enter in his mind that JW is something different from what he think JW is. I think this is a nifty psychological thing, though. And the chairman was the same with the manager Baek.
I am going to continue the watching tomorrow, though. I am too obsessed with Hawaii-5-O at the moment. You will be pleased. :D
Re: sts
Date: 2011-04-26 11:30 pm (UTC)Oh nice character study there. I do agree with you on his views on Jung-woo, but I thought he knew VERY well manager Baek. Didn't he know that he was stealing from him?
Yeah, me too. And alskdjald omg, tell me tell me!!! I told you it was good, didn't I? XD Epic bromance, yeah? Doesn't it remind you of old-school cop shows à la Starsky & Hutch or Due South?
Re: sts
Date: 2011-04-27 09:24 am (UTC)My daughter and I enjoy Hawaii-5-O immensely. She likes Danny, I like Steve (but imagine! O'Loughlin is able to act! I liked him in "Moonlight" but he did not show atoo much of acting there) My only suggested improvement would have been to have a forbidden romance between the cousins. :P
Re: sts
Date: 2011-04-28 04:56 pm (UTC)Heeeeeeeee. Re: AOL in Moonlight. Well, if he managed to say those lines (almost always totally ridic) with a straight face and made them even remotely believable, I'd say that he can act. ^^ I love him on h50! ^^
