The film is not made to be taken seriously, you can not do this even if you try really really hard.
The film is full of:

- Bad Russians and all of them are spies

- Russians who killed president Kennedy

- Good Russians and all of them are pro USA

- Bad Russian accents. You had to laugh when even Daniel Olbrychski who spoke perfectly good Russian had a very BAD Russian accent when he spoke English (and by BAD I don’t mean thick, I mean – I haven’t heard any of Russian people I have met speak like this in real life)

- Russians drinking vodka after killing a man with automatic guns

- Russians chess champions

The film had no Russian cliché unturned. I have seriously tried to think this was some kind of parody/spoof thing but I don’t think it was.

What the film didn’t have , however:

- Any coherency of the plot. Everyone assumes Angelina is a Russian spy? Why? I tried really hard to understand but the only explanation for me was that she has blond hair , braided in a a plat (this is a Russian way to wear your hair, right) ?

Anyways, I had a good laugh with Mr.Alexander , so the film was good for something?

I enjoyed the movie, but yeah, the ~evil Russians~ were ridiculous.

You see, I have this literal thinking I can't do anything with it: the skinny Angelina we see in "Salt" does not look like a woman who can do any fighting, let alone run more than 10 min at a time. I really like when "strong" women are allowed to look like they are strong (like having muscles, for one thing) and this was not the case.

I liked her more in "Wanted" where there more of shooting and less of kicking.

Angelina Jolie didn't bother me too much; I've seen even scrawnier women in the kick ass roles. It helped that she wasn't half-naked for most of the movie, which made her look bulkier (ha! "bulky" in the Hollywood sense, at least.)

I do agree with you, though. I wish the actresses they have taking down men two times their sizes didn't look like they're ready to snap in a stiff breeze.

The skinny issue is my bee-in-the bonnet in general. I love new TV show "Haven" because - gosh, it is so rare to see a normal woman!

But I confess - Angelina was good when she did that scene with the chain (but at the same time - why did they have a chain on handcuffs? why?)

I thought the fight scenes were pretty hilarious. I mean jumping from car to car on a freeway, REALLY??

But it was fun, and anytime a woman is able to kick some ass and save her "man in distress" pretty much makes my day.

You see, any skinny woman kicking an ass of men who seem to have muscles seems a physical impossibility to me, so I don't enjoy those things as much. I like when women look like they actually can kick some ass (as Starbuck was) but this happens very rarely.

The way she jumped onto the top of a car on a free-way was scary, actually. We just recently had a similar accident on M1 when some guy committed a suicide by jumping of a bridge, somehow getting on top of a lorry, then going down and bringing with him few more lives (and having M1 closed for half a day whilst they were wiping his remains off the floor). This was so scary because as always I immediately think of "Oh, what would kids think?" and we also had a case recently when two boys tried to cross M1 at night and were killed. Sorry, this was long, it is all my literal thinking!

I agree with you there, I wish that they would just have more regualar looking woman period in tv/movies. The only actress that I can think of who looks normal to me is Kate Winslet. Its really sad that I can't even name off more.

Wow, you seem to have some bad luck on the highway? Accidents terrify me because their just so random and usually unpreventable.

I am enjoying "Haven" at the moment, Emily Rose is so normal.

I think M1 is one of the busier highways, that is all. The case with two boys was horrendous, though. They were only 7 , I think. Why were they wondering alone near the motorway????

Stephen King! Oh wow, this looks really good thanks for the rec.

Ugh, stuff like that really upsets me. The most upsetting crimes/accidents to me are ones where children are involved.

I haven't seen the film, so I don't know what the accents sounded like. But I have heard a Russian emigrant to America speak, and she had a very heavy accent - Ayn Rand.

As for the good Russians being pro-USA, that is just the natural way of things. :) Used to be, anyhow. Now we're going to hell in a handbasket, and *I* don't like the USA as presently constituted.

I agree that Russian accent seems to be often strong and persistent (because of many different sounds and emphasis patterns in the language) . But this is not what I meant - the accent in the film didn't sound at all like the accent of my Russian friends. I notice this , I think, because I hear Russian accent (from my friends) very often. I don't think the difference in sound is apparent for a British person. My husband, for example, thought the accent was fine.

And pro-USA : I am absolutely not trying to criticize, but so far, I have noticed many people from USA and "the West" having an approach to everything from the POV that "West and USA is the only true way". This is not true for all people from USA, but I have noticed this often enough.
