alexandral: (World Cup 2010 - Ronaldo Cry Moar)

Hmm, I haven't been watching football for enough years to claim any historical knowledge, but this was the most underwhelming Grand Finale so far.

Minuses:

- Poor Oranjie!!! But gosh, did they play dirty.

- I do dislike Spain and I dislike the team even more now. This is definitely the most disliked team I have ever seen or will ever see to win the World Cup. I know my icon is actually of Portuguese player, but it is something that I find very fitting to Spain-the-team.

- The most boring final of all times. In comparison with the 2006 finale that had 2 goals, penalties, Zinedine Zidane head-butting drama AND Italy winning, this was bad.

Pluses:

+ One year Spain is going to lose. And I hope I still will be there to watch it! I have a long memory as far as spitefulness is concerned!

+ Germany/Uruguay was a lovely match!

+ Overall the World Cup 2010 was such a great show. Just few things that made my day: France melt-down, Ghana winning USA, Forlan, Maradona, Messi, Germany-the-team, cheeky Honda and Japanese free-kicks. There were many many great moments!

Glad to know I wasn't the only one who though this was a borefest.

It was so boring that my only scarce cheers came from Netherlands' "aggression". :D

lol. I just rewatched the part where some Dutch player drop-kicks a Spanish player. AHAHAHAHAHA. Also, OUCH. But still, AHAHAHAHAHAHA. KO.

hee! Indeedy! I must say I do not approve of these things, but it was so funny! and SO STRATEGICALLY positioned - they were doing repeats on our Tv and from certain positions it all looked as if their "chests" collided.

LOVE YOUR ICON.

As for me, I'm taking [livejournal.com profile] raffaella's advice and pretending that the whole thing ended yesterday. And Mueller won the Best Young Player AND the Golden Boot, so eat it, Spain and Holland!

Most awesome [livejournal.com profile] sodahands made the icon, I love it!

Now, these are seriously good news. I thought one of the Spanish players would get the "golden Boot". Woo-Hoo! You have cheered me up!!!!!!!!! Thank you!

And Forlan won the Golden Ball for best player! Highly deserved. :D

EEEEEEEE! Even better! You know, Forlan totally won me over with his awesomeness. When his last free-kick with Germany didn't go in and he was so visibly sad - I was saaaaaaad for him.

This was such a bad boring final! I mean wth?? But i feel like it was pretty reflective of this WC.

But I have to say (and you might hate me for it) but The Netherlands are now my least favourite team. They were fouling left and right and it was just awful. And I know everyone hates the ref but I'm with him. Had this been the ref in the Brazil-Oranje match then Brazil would've gone through and I can't not be bitter.

Let's say I am usually very soft on my favourites, but yep, Netherlands were waaaaaaaaay too dirty. Funnily enough, the red-card offense was one of those "cry moar" IMHO, but by that stage even I thought that fair is fair.

Yes, what a boring final. I am not that happy with Netherlands neither,

Yeah I don't think that red card was deserved but there definitely should've been a red card earlier in the game imo.
Oh well here's hoping 2014 will much better.

Yes, the chest-kicking thing was particular dirty.

I wish I knew how to save money so that I could go to Brazil. This is one of the countries I "want to visit before I die" and I imagine how great the WC 2014 is going to be.

Yeah I was surprised that only got a yellow card tbh.

Me too! I hear it's pretty doable if you can find enough people to split the cost with and then you can rent a big house together in the host country. You should totally go for it. My plan is to start saving up now.
I mean I don't even have to go see a game in the stadium tbh. Just being in the host country would be pretty awesome.

Oh no, I don't like those football stadiums as well! Too many people for me.

I only got to watch part of the GER-URU game in a coffee shop, so no comment really.

Today was a bit of a throwback to 20 years ago, when WC finals were boring nil-nil defense fests and then decided on penalty kicks or a golden goal. The new(ish) system is a little better.

The Dutch really couldn't make anything happen. The dirty play was kind of funny after a while. The chest kick deserved a red card, though, more so than whatever Huitsenga did (we had to rewind the DVR to even figure out that he'd done something to be sent off). And then as a result we were behind the broadcast so when P's friend called from London when the game was over we were still watching, lol. So we just skipped ahead since we already knew the result.

Yes, the final left a little aftertaste, but I seem to have forgotten it quickly.

I am just glad that Forlan and Muller got the awards!

I am just delighted that Diego Forlan won the Golden Ball (I think it's unusual that someone from a team that wasn't in the final wins it!) He was a revelation and far more awesome than anyone else.

(And I'm with you - four years ago was SO MUCH BETTER! I have ordered the FIFA 2006 World Cup DVD to cheer myself up!!)

me too! His and Muller's award made it all better for me. I am glad none of Spanish players got any awards!

I can't agree with all of you who commented. I think match was reaaaally interesting and exciting. Yes, there were no goals (as much, as it was the day before in German victory's game), yeah, there were too many foals (but IMHO that was also bad way for referee to give yellow cards to all players). BUT. There were so many moments, when my heart was throbbing, when i shouted like a mad guy. That was excellent game for both goalkeepers (Iker was the best one!) Game with intrigue till the last minutes - i liked such final!
btw, pity Urugai couldn't score a goal on last direct kick. It would be very interesting to see additional time..

I agree - I think there was much going on, it is just me - I like goals. :D

Even though I was cheering for Germany at that match, I got really sad for Forlan. And yes, if he scored, this could have been even more dramatic game.

yes, they played dirty and the game was for most of the time boring._. but hey, it was the final so they deserve our attention XD
yes Germany/Uruguay was fantastic, I was hoping for something similar for the final...
Well, Spain now enjoy this moment, let's see what will happen in four years XD

I don't grudge it too much - Spain have never won it, so - OK> but I don't like the team, didn't like the way they played, etc.

Will not forget this World Cup anytime soon. The whole country was pretty devastated.. But I think most people have come to terms with it today. :P I did a post on how that went!
