"Byakuyako"! this is not the end of it! And Horikita Maki is going to play the main role! For me, Korean film "Into the White Nigth" was pretty enough of this particular brand of combination of naivety and horror, but it seems there will be more!!!!!! I am intrigued! I think I will catch up on the Jdrama version this week.

But why Horikita Maki? Why not the other actress, the one who played the role in the Jdrama, Ayase Haruka?

I had read about this. I heard it would focus more on the mystery and less on the romance. Hmm, why not Ayase Haruka? Usually, if Japan makes a drama and film version of something (and it's not a spinoff or part of that 'verse (i.e. the Trick films) they use a different cast. I guess so people don't become confused.

Horikita Maki is actually not a bad choice. Early in her career she played darker characters - loners and depressed teenagers. It wasn't until she got really mainstream that she became known for her "pure" and "spunky" image. Horikita Maki actually does darker characters really well. So, I'm okay with the casting.

Oh, That makes sense, but still not full sense, I thought the drama was really successful, so why to add the movie? On the other hand, we have all sorts of adaptations of "Pride and Prejudice", so why not?

Oh, I like Maki and I think she will do fine, I was just surprised that there is a change because Haruka was great too. I wonder who is going to play the boy.. I am so-so about the actor in the Jdrama.

I'm guessing the movie is being done mostly because of the Korean film. I love the series, but it did so-so in the ratings - it's average was 12.2% or so. Who knows, but I do think the film is being made because of the Korean remake. I wonder how far the series and films vary from the novel itself? I do wish it would get translated into English.

You didn't really like Yamada Takayuki in the role? I've seen him in a lot, and think he's talented. But, I'm sure they'll change his character to someone else. I just hope it's not a Johnny, because. . .the Ryo character is very dark and complex, especially in his relationships with Yuki and the detective.

I think with the cast like this - there is a very good chance some subbing group will pick it up.

May be I didn't watch far enough into the drama. I must re-start it!!!

That's not what I meant. I know it is all based on a novel, but the jdrama and the Korean film had some major differences. Which makes me wonder, after watching both subbed, how much of it came from the novel itself - in both the case of the drama and film. It's like, Crying out Love at the Centre of the Universe was made into a jdrama, jfilm, and kfilm; all have the same storyline and share several of the same scenes. However, many of the story lines and scenes in all three aren't in the novel itself.

Oh, I am sorry - I got it wrong. yes, I wish the book was translated and I wish we had more Japanese novel translations in general. The original novel can be very different.

Oh, I like her too. I am sure she will be great. But I liked Haruka as well, I think she is awesome, so I was surprised why they changed her.

I am more interested to know who is going to play the boy.

Re: Ayase Haruka - did you hear about Hotaru No Hikari s2 coming out this year? if they give a definite for me ending, I might go back on liking this drama train.

EEEEE! No! Thank you so much for the news! I am so ready for Fujiki Naohito in a romantic drama where he is not a crazy ecology-conscious guy. :D

I am sure they are going to be together! But I don't mind seeing their wedding, so I am glad too!

I heard about this yesterday, and definitely have reservations. I do think it will be better than the kmovie (if only for the fact that Japan is better are doing the completely insane stuff), but I just hate remakes of anything. They almost never turn out as well as the original. I do think Maki will be good though.

I agree with you re: remakes. I think Maki will be great. I am more interested who the guy is going to be, as I am also not that invested into the lead guy in the Jdrama version (I think Haruka carries the drama).

Hehe, I completely disagree. I love Ayase Haruka, but the draw of the drama for me was definitely Yamada Takayuki. I thought his portrayal was amazing.

Rumors are that Kora Kengo is going to play the male lead in the movie.

Oh, thank you! Kora Kengo looks like he can do, but it all will depend on the way he acts.

Yamada Takayuki - this is a purely subjective thing, I don't seem to find myself attracted to him. But this might change - I intend to catch up on the drama this weekend.
