Chuno episode 23: soon it is all going to end and I am still not getting the vibe of doom. Am I in the total minority and will my optimism be crushed soon? I don't know – but I guess I am an eternal optimist so I can't do anything about this.

This episode was a bit about slaves and it was revealed that Legolas is, in fact, working for the Evil Minister. Although the slave rebellion was never one of my favourite storylines, at least now everything is tied back to the main story, Eop Bok and Cho Bok had their kiss, etc. etc. I think the final episode will have less to do with the slaves (I hope) and more to do with Dae Gil and Tae Ha's last battle with Chul Woong and a whole army of his minimes.

But the slaves weren't the one and only thing, we had another episode of Tae Ha and Dae Gil fighting together, talking to each other and being generally awesome. There was also quite a long time devoted to Chul Woong's soul spiraling faster and faster into complete disintegration, with some moments incredibly hard to watch.
But! Let's forget that this is a Korean period drama and everyone might die tomorrow, forget the laws of fateful loves, noble deaths, reunions in heaven and all the other things that personally make little or no sense to me. There was so much awesomeness in this episode! Tae Ha's badassery reached a completely new level – not only is he very swift with his sword, it was also revealed that he is second to no-one with bow and arrow. The story goes like this: Dae Gil is accosted by numerous amounts of soldiers, fighting with them successfully. Tae Ha is standing on a roof, shooting arrows, and with every single arrow he hits his target (like Robin Hood, only better because Tae Ha is still purposefully not killing anyone) . Finally Dae Gil notices that he has no guys to fight anymore and gives Ta Ha that fabulous gesture that I can only translate "Awesome, dude!" (it is like a quick bow, I wasn't able to screencap it).

And there also was a bit about Un Nyun being fantastic with Qing guys and teaching Sul Hwa to read

Date: 2010-03-24 05:05 pm (UTC)TH looks so hot shooting.I really wish the whole useless slave revolt storyline was ruthlessly chopped - it adds little, takes away from mains, and is horribly boring.
I keep hoping for all the slaves to be eaten by a manticore and that storyline to end.

Date: 2010-03-24 05:11 pm (UTC)Isn't he just? How can they kill off someone like that? How? (but then , they had the IRIS's hero dead).
Honestly, I feel I am becoming absolutely baffled by the cultural differences - what is so wrong with you Korean drama entertainment that you produce endings like that (and I am not even talking about "knife in the back" that HGD was).?????????????????
But IRIS - even Nikita ends well!
Dae Gil was also very hot coming with all helpful suggestions and they talk a LOT to each other.

More I think of it more it seems that the slave story is one of the writer's mains. It just hasn't clicked with anyone.

Date: 2010-03-24 05:18 pm (UTC)But this isn't the case in Chuno - they can go to Qing just fine and the evil king is about to croak. They have a chance at happiness. I do think TH is going to die for sure and DG will live with UN (OJH interview really made me think about it).

Yes - people like the main quartet, the other slave hunters (even CJH for reasons unknown :P), CW, even the comic bits with the Jumos. But nobody I've seen (soompi, LJ, dramabeans, real life) cares for the slave revolt story. It really must be the writer's pet project.
ETA: I am on ep 6 of Swallow the Sun and it's good. And I actually like Lee Wan's character now. He's pretty messed up but they explain why so I feel sorry for him now.

Date: 2010-03-24 05:25 pm (UTC)** weeps ** I think I just won't be able to take TH's dying. I am going to go and cry in a corner now. Why does he have to dieeeeeee? because DG/UN are the "fateful love"?

he still won't be the one to "get the girl". :(
Honestly, TH dies - I am through with Kdrama for a while, we don't agree on some base level :D

Date: 2010-03-24 05:30 pm (UTC)If TH dies - I'll weep, rant on my LJ, and then go to another kdrama - clearly I am hopeless :)

Date: 2010-03-24 05:42 pm (UTC)No, I will be really through. May be jdramas for a while, or may be just do more proper film watching. You see, the way I see it - I haven't seen another character (apart from the guy in IRIS and Dam Deok) that deserves happiness so much. Yes, Dg deserves it too, and in no way I want him to die, but still - DG stopped developing long long time ago. . If TH dies, that means that thing "Kdrama is all about fateful love" is true and the thing the writer was saying all along "it is all about making changes where you live" is wrong, and I would definitely think my own beliefs and "all is fate" don't agree on deep deep level down.
Lee Wan is not in my top 3, but may be in top 5-10, but the fact is that I am also not a fan of the main lead (purely on subjective level).

Date: 2010-03-24 05:51 pm (UTC)Re: Lee Wan. I've adored him in ToH but I think except that, Snow White and Beach he doesn't have lead roles? I have no idea why - he totally should! (Btw, did you know he is real-life brother of Kim Tae Hee, Iris' lead?)

See, here is where we differ. I got thiiiiiis close to watching New Heart for him and I never watch med dramas.

Date: 2010-03-24 06:16 pm (UTC)Lee Wan has secondary role in "In Soon is pretty", but with his own OTP. Doesn't end weell for him, though (although this end is open to tiny little bit of interpretation) .
"New Heart" - i say it is much less about actual medical procedures than "Jejungwon", as far as I can remember it is all about "achieving your goal". The guy is lovely, real heart of gold - just the way you like them and the girl is very achievement-oriented. OTP is more of UST type, though.

Date: 2010-03-24 05:14 pm (UTC)i really don't know what PD and writers want to do with our poor heart by making him better and better in each ep and then maybe kill this perfect charcater.
i think i like an open ending now.
ps. how many times i used the word perfect? when i write about TH. it's the only word in my mind.
i have the ep i think i will watch it now. can't wait till night.

Date: 2010-03-24 07:02 pm (UTC)I'm pretty lukewarm to TH/UN or DG/UN but... TH/DG... LOL! Clearly I'm a closet slasher.
You know, I'm having this novel idea that they are all going to survive! Now that would be a shock of epic propositions. Maybe they just kill CW and EB with the Evil Minister and his minions to keep the bodycount. I mean, someone's got to die, it's a sageuk. ;P

Date: 2010-03-24 07:17 pm (UTC)me too - all that winking and bowing to each other - they are clearly meant to be together.

Hee! I keep telling exactly the same thing to myself and soompi forums, but they keep bringing spoilers full of doom from different sources - but I am still hanging to my gut feel. In any logical world, this how it would have ended.
