Being Human: thumbs down

I finally sat down to watch new "Being Human", it took me a while because I was a little afraid knowing that two out of three major characters are played by different actors than in the pilot. I was so right to be afraid - the magic is gone, permanently gone. I might get used to it and I might even like "Being Human" again as a background show, but I don't think it will ever be anything out of ordinary.
I don't even know what I like less:
- new Mitchell (totally lacking any charisma),
- new Anne (totally lacking any cuteness)
- or the new writing and cinematography (cheery and cliche ridden).

This is the biggest "Why did you do it?" of this year for me. Why take something good and change is completely over??? May be there were some reasons re:casting - who knows, may be the actors are not available , but still..

The problem with the new Annie is that she also tries to do the accent and the working-class thing but she totally fails on both accounts, the accent is too unexistent in some places and she is so middle-class.

Hee! I am like that too, I will watch anything (well, almost anything) with a "right" kind of actor. New Mitchell can be attractive from certain angles, but then he puts on that grandfather-ly hat and ** br for me***

I'm just glad that they kept George. I have this irrational love for George even though he is SOOO far from the type of character I like. He's so twitchy and worries so much. I don't know why I even think that's cute.

I like it so far, including Mitchell, but I can't say anything about casting changes, because I havn't watched the pilot yet. I didn't even know there is something before episode 1 (although I guessed it since it jumped right into the story). *gg*

I wish I haven't seen the pilot too, I think I could have liked Mitchell much more in this case. :D Also the whole mood of the story changed, from some really goosebump-inducing conversations about "what is death" to the whitish door and some light behind it.

What, why would they change all of the major cast? I can understand some changes but a whole over-do just seems very odd. I haven't seen the show or the pilot, though. Just .. what an odd move!

Indeed!! I don't know why they did it. I imagine a situation where one actor couldn't take part in the series but two? And not even two - they changed the main baddie too who was so much yummeir in the pilot. So odd!

I agree with you on every point, and I share you feelings as far as this goes:

I'm still watching - for the sake of curiosity, now, more than anything - but I can't say I enjoy it. I can't get a handle on Mitchell at all, and don't find him remotely sympathetic. Annie has lost her snark, and all she does is cry and moan (how very typically ghost-like, but I can't stand it for THREE WHOLE EPISODES). And they aren't doing a very good job of weaving the storylines of the three main characters together; there are so few points of connection. They barely shared screentime in the last episode.

There was so much of genuine friendship between Mitchell and George in the pilot and it is all gone!

To add to it, they also removed Adrian Lester (why swap him for that ugly chap?) and new Mitchell's girlfriend is way too cheap.

I haven't dared watch this because of the recast and that picture of new!Mitchell isn't exactly hopeful. Why oh why did they recats it? The old pilot was perfect!

I have now idea why they thought that removing every ogiginality from the series is a good idea. They also removed Adrian Lester!!!!
