Still about Alexander Skarsgård
Jul. 25th, 2008 05:54 pm- I am still very busy at work.
- My daughter is on holidays. She had a fist session in a martial arts academy and she liked it very much, especially the shouting part. "Kung Fu Panda", recently attended, is the advertisement for martial arts. From now and forever, adding to her brass band (this is moving along nicely) and ice skating (the trainer is on holidays), she is intent on doing martial arts.
- The weather is nice and hot.
- Today I had a dream that I was in Australia. It was very hot and I was at the work-related meeting with some Australian guys. Does this mean I need to reduce my workload?
- "Generation Kill" is the best thing since "Rome" and "The Wire". Brad and Ray, Pullo and Vorenus, Thirteen!!
There is A Sad Thing I discovered today:
The world has not enough pictures of Alexander Skarsgård.

There is a Good Thing I dicovered today:
A tiny picture of Alexander Skarsgård shirtless. I hope his depiction of Eric-the-Vampire-Sheriff in HBO's "True blood" WILL STOP THE PREJUDICE AGAINST VAMPIRES. ;D

Here is a deep thought of today:
Long hair don't often suit men. And long sticky fringes NEVER suit men, even when they are Alexander Skarsgård

Here is a happy thought of today:
Not being afraid of looking dorky is a cute quality.

I want to watch the film below, "Exit". Have anyone seen it?

The main focus of the series (though there are other most fabulous characters) is a an army unit where Brad is the leader (played by Alexander) and Ray is his driver. These two are FRIENDS. Brad is cool (but conflicted), extremely confident and good at everything. Ray is funny, talking all the time and loyal. I love these two.

I love pictures like that, when darkness on one side accentuates the profile of a person.

Date: 2008-07-25 06:44 pm (UTC)Hee. I like your comparison. I'm not sure I can back it yet though, as I want to see the whole series before I pass jugdment. That said I already love GK madly, and I can hardly wait for the next episode.
(Favourite part in ep. 2 - When Ray tells Scribe how Brad was dumped, and Brad has this heartbreaking (but still very Iceman-like) talk about he is still bestfriends with his ex, and how he looked at the pictures of how she now did all the things they used to do, but with a different guy. The thing that killed me was that her new boyfriend was also his friend, and Brad ends the whole monologue with "It is good to have friends". I just wanted to give him a hug. Second favourite part was the talk about why they joined the Marines, and Ray ends with "Should have rolled into battle with a sword Brad, that would have fucking rocked". Hee! I love them so much! I've also come to adore Lt. Fick who has to put up with that awful Captain.)

Date: 2008-07-25 06:54 pm (UTC)This was my favourite part too. And the best thing for me was the look on Ray's face - he was so hurting for Brad. (I was hurting too and also wanted to give him a hug :D. ).

Hee! this is excellent -! Just imagine! A big axe (Vikings fought with it, right?) would have been awesome too.
Lieutenant is awesome and he is the only sensible guy among the "upper management", the rest are crazy to a high degree. I liked Godfather to a point but his decision the send the Marines through that town for NO REASON was just madness.

Date: 2008-07-25 07:08 pm (UTC)Yes, axes were quite popular. I must admit that during the whole conversation about a knight slaying a dragon, and them referring to Brad I kept thinking: I wouldn't mind a film/series where Alexander Skarsgård played a knight. ;)
Unlike Brad and Ray I took some time in liking Lt. Fick, but he and Espera are absolutely my second favourites (followed by the Doc, who is just so calm all the time). I just like that Fick tries to make the best out of the situation no matter how stupid some of his superiors are. He is also good at implying things with just one look.
I'm still not sure what to think of Godfather. At sometimes he is pretty okay, and then - as you say - he sends them through the city.

Date: 2008-07-25 07:20 pm (UTC)Speaking of knights - he can make fine Jaime Lannister for me. :D

Hee! I fell in love with him and his speech about the "catastrophic failure" of the espresso machine.
I am not sure that I have noticed the Doctor yet.
I like Espera as a fictional character, but I am not sure if I would have liked him in RL. His speech about some guy's mother doesn't sit right with me. I know this is the only-men environment and I know the other guy is a nutter but still..

I'll give him another chance. But only one. ;D

I am not sure that I have noticed the Doctor yet.
He's the one talking to Espera in the opening scene about how they haven't cleaned up after the last war. He is also the only one who openly objects to sending the Iraqi fugitives out into the desert again. (which is when I really started to like him). And he isn't a doctor as such, but a corpsman, which means he has had medical training. Hence the nickname Doc.
As for Espera and the scene you mention, I think that worked for me because the other guy was so incredibly out of line that I felt he had it coming. Also there is this bitterness masked with sarcasm in everything Espera says that I find intriguing.

Date: 2008-07-25 07:58 pm (UTC)And he was the one who said something about "What a great comeback"? OOOOOO! I have nice, nice screencap of him (among the others I want to make icons from).

Oh, he sure had it coming, being a racist mad-man. But his mother? What does she has to do with it? Especially , if I understood the conversation correctly, she is not racist?
Hmm.. Sometimes things like this make me very unsure about a character..

Date: 2008-07-25 08:15 pm (UTC)yes, I think that was him. It took a while before I noticed him - but on my third re-watch I did. (and it is entirely possible that I have watched it too many times. ;))

Hmm... I can see your point, and I will admit that the scene is troubling - but then there are other Espera scenes. Like when he is handing Twonbly the black beanie, or when he is clever and finds the knife in the waterbottle, that show him in a much more positive light.

Date: 2008-07-25 08:22 pm (UTC)I was thinking about what you said in the previous comment - I think there is a backstory for Espera. He is a highly intelligent guy, what is he doing being a marine? And remember when he told the Writer how he didn't want to take a coledge certificate just because this is "a paper from a white master"? This is so personal for him. So I guess I can see how he just snaps and crosses the line in the conversation. I wish to know more if his backstory now!
I wish I had more time to re-watch!!!!!!!!!!

Date: 2008-07-25 08:13 pm (UTC)Exit is supposed to be good. Haven't seen it though, so can't vouch for that. :) But, it does also have Mads Mikkelsen and he's always solid so....
