Kamenashi Kazuya/KAT-TUN/Yamapi/ Nobuta wo Produce/ Kurosagi
Fabulous [livejournal.com profile] winterspel made a great post promoting music clips of Japanese singer/actor Kamenashi Kazuya and Japanese boy band "KAT-TUN". I have been listening to these clips on and off and I am pleasantly surprised. The standard of music and voices is quite high. The standard of dancing is even higher, in fact, it is probably one of the best of what I have seen so far anywhere . Saying all this, I was never especially keen on pop music so I can safely say that I probably will never turn into crazy "KAT-TUN" fan girl. But much, much thanks to [livejournal.com profile] winterspel, it is very interesting culturally to get to know more about Asian entertainment.

And yes, I have almost forgotten, – I liked Yamashita Tomohisa the best in the video clips. To celebrate this, I am watching "Nobuta wo Produce" and "Kurosagi" at the same time. I love love love quirky and clever and crazy "Nobuta wo Produce" to bits (and more about this later) and I liked the first episode of "Kurosagi" very much too. I am not sure about the quality of the script and the swindling story was somehow very naïve, but the presence of Yamapi compensates for script’s pitfalls in spades.

Supernatural, Simon Said This was the story with super-persuasive-power twins which didn’t look like each other. It is not like this is impossible, it just added to a little voice of "What?" in my head . But they are back to the main arc about THE DEMON and this made yours truly very happy.

BSG, up to episode 5 (or 4)I finally caught up with BSG watching and episode "Exodus" was awesome. OK, not fully awesome, but Lee has saved the day and this was enough for me. :)

Though I can’t say that episode "Collaborators" was so good. It reminded me largely of “Litmus” in terms of witch hunting. Later in the episode Starbuck was behaving strangely , though Anders was behaving even stranger and broke up with his wife for no apparent reason.

But worst of the worst moments was (and I really want to erase this scene from my memory) when Lee boasted to Adama that he lost half of stone and Adama condescendingly said "keep jumping". It was said in a very very wrong way for me.

Films: The truth about cats and dogs
EEEEEEEE! This is such a fabulous film. I don’t have much time left and have to rush home, but - OMPH! Clever articulate girls rule! Dogs and cats rule! Female friendship rules!! Usually female friendship is shown as weakish and falling under the blows of stronger attachments, but not in this film! I just want to hug the writer for this.

Oo! Truth about cats and dogs! I love that film, and I agree with you on the wonderfulness of the female friendship that is shown. I also really like Uma Thurman's character in this film, even if it's the main love story that really gets to me. It's one of those films that makes me happy when I watch it!

As for BSG

Adama condescendingly said “keep jumping”. It was said in a very very wrong way for me.

Oh yes - I so agree! I'm actually starting to be angry with PapaAdama. How can he talk like that to his son? Grrr...
But I loved how Lee saved the day.
That said: Ellen! *huge sob* and poor Tigh - and it's all so sad and horrible. (And the fact that he made her drink it? Somehow that struck me as very Greek - which I suppose is fitting considering the Colonial Mythology. It was just so sad - since drinking was something they in a way had in common. It just made me all teary...)

I know!!! I think I have heard about this film for the first time in [livejournal.com profile] queenofthorns's LJ. Again - LJ is the best!
And I liked Uma Thurman's character very much too. Everyone, including herself, thought that she was beautiful but dumb. I thought that actually she was very very bright, and even more so, clever in her heart. Some things she said were just great, like when she was trying to explain that she is not eating anything and she has "nothing" inside. But of course, I was totally rooting for the main heroine. And I know that Uma Turman's character will find a great guy too :)

Oh yes - I so agree! I'm actually starting to be angry with PapaAdama. How can he talk like that to his son? Grrr...

Also considering that Lee DID save his life just the other day. Hmm, like a parent - I am not happy about this! ** sorry for a mini-rant **

That said: Ellen! *huge sob* and poor Tigh - and it's all so sad and horrible. (And the fact that he made her drink it? Somehow that struck me as very Greek

Oh, I love your Greek connection here. It was indeed very much like in classic Greek tragedies. I was spoiled for this moment, but I felt very sad too. It seemed in this season that Tigh had "found himself", but then this happened. I think it was cruel that they made him do it.

BTW - have you seen a film called "Martha - meet Frank, Daniel and Laurence"? It's another of those films that always makes me happy. A British romantic comedy - but very sweet.

Hmmmm, I'm glad you like the clips I shared with you, but I should qualify with what I told you before, and that is that many Japanese singers do not always sound that great live, although there are also many who DO. The clips I shared were among the better sounding ones, but there are many live clips that sound less good in terms of being on key. But for me, and I think for most JE fans, it's something that we accept as part of the package, and part of the "cuteness" and "normal-ness" of the people we like, so it doesn't bother us much. KAT-TUN's studio work is all great-sounding, though.

For example, Takuya Kimura's group, SMAP features one of the very worst Japanese singers ever, Masahiro Nakai, who makes me want to be deaf to listen to him. However, I really love Nakai in ever other way because he is a very good dancer, and a very funny guy with tremendous personality. I think perhaps this is the benefit of being all-around entertainers - even if there is one thing we don't like, there are so many other aspects that we CAN and DO like.

Also, I wanted to add that I was absolutely NOT a pop fan (of any style) before this, although I occasionally do like some pop music. I've certainly never been into boybands. But Japanese boybands are a completely different species because as I said above it's not just about the music, it's about them as entertainers and personalities, and they have a tremendous amount of appeals on many levels, not just music.

Re: Kurosagi - for me, I was less interested in the swindling and more interested in Kurosaki's relationships with Katsuragi and with Tsurara and with the character development. I think those are the things that made the drama so incredibly appealing to me.

I'm awfully glad you like the Kamenashi Kazuya pimp post. *Huge Smile* I was so nervous about it! :)

Oh, you didn't have to be! I really really appreciate it!! And I think many other people enjoyed it too!

but there are many live clips that sound less good in terms of being on key. But for me, and I think for most JE fans, it's something that we accept as part of the package

I understand this so well! They are also amazing entertainers indeed! Their dancing is so fabulous, even for my old-lady tastes. I think this is what must be of great value in Japan ( I am just guessing here) - the whole personality of the band members, The fact that their fans see them in shows and on stage. It is like Kame is not just Kame-the-singer, he is Hiroto at the same time!

And again, this is so interesting culturally, because, of course, I am forever comparing with Russian approach . And in Russia, especially in Russian rock, the words and poetry of songs is what matters the most, not music, not dancing. A lot of band leaders are not even pretty by any stretch of imagination. What I am trying to say is - I see how different things are. And I LOVE IT!

For example, Takuya Kimura's group, SMAP features one of the very worst Japanese singers ever

I must say that I had ventured to listen some of their clips after "Long Vacation" and was scarred for life. Though I am trying to keep open-minded approach and will probably try to listen to some "SMAP" later. But Senna + Takuya of "SMAP" = I can't comprehend this yet. :)

I was less interested in the swindling and more interested in Kurosaki's relationships with Katsuragi and with Tsurara and with the character development

I think this what I like too! And also Yamapi!

The Truth About Cats and Dogs is one of my favorite movies ever! I call it the ugly girl's fantasy movie, because really, in real life, it never works out like that. But who cares? Not me, at least not while I'm watching, because it's so smart and funny and perfect.

I dunno, I actually thought that in RL someone looking like Abby + being incredibly warm and funny and clever like she is would have been snapped up very quickly. This is one of the real hypocrisies in films - when they want to show "plain" heroine, they find someone who still is looking pretty. "Jane Eyre" adaptations suffer from this. Ok, I sound like I am criticizing, I am not!! I loved this film!!!!

The Truth About Cats and Dogs is LOVE!!!! I've seen that movie too many times, and it's actually one of my favorite movies ever! EEE!

Clever articulate girls rule!
Absolutely!!! It's a pity that due to the language barrier I cannot be as articulate in English as I am in my own language :S... But I'll keep trying to improve my English!

Female friendship rules!!
YAY!!!!! I couldn't live without my two BFF T and M, I love them dearly :D

Regarding cats and dogs... they are gorgeous when they are very far from me *lol* because pets (and animals in genera) scare me, it's totally irrational on my part, but I cannot help it! But I totally acknowledge how pretty and adorable they are! ^^

BSG: I was certainly underwhelmed by the first episodes of season three up to Exodus part 1, I even found the boring at times OMG! However, I think Exodus part 2 was pretty awesome. Collaborators was back to being MEH! It was hard watching some of the scenes and the decisions some characters made. I can see why Kara is so hardcore and broken, but I don't like her actions because being so vengeful is the way I am. Also, OMG!!! Adama totally rubbed me the wrong way with the way he treated Lee in their scene; Lee was showing his father how he was trying to go back to his own self, exercising again etc... and Papadama, instead of showing some paternal support, just did that awful remark... I found that absolutely mind boggling, especially because when someone is depressed and trying to get better they need the support of their loved ones. Gaaah!

I know what say! I really want to go and study "English with creative writing" . :) But I personally think that you are so very funny and articulate in English! I imagine what you are in Spanish!!!!

because pets (and animals in genera) scare me

I can understand this. I was afraid of dogs for a long, long time. Actually, only having a dog as a pet cured me out it. You know, like I saw some program on TV when the people who are afraid of spiders were cured by making them hold HUGE BIG SPIDERS!

BSG: I was certainly underwhelmed by the first episodes of season three up to Exodus part 1, I even found the boring at times OMG! However, I think Exodus part 2 was pretty awesome. Collaborators was back to being MEH!

Actually, exactly my feelings!!! I can't wait for some more weight loss, though . Totally shallow. :)

That was SO awful. Especially considering that Lee saved Adama's life. It was like Adama gave him a hug and forgotten all about it! I am very angry!!

EEEEEE! Funny enough, I am very adverse to this in RL. I always liked egde-cuttingly clever or protective men, preferably much older then myself. :) My husband is 3 years older then me. But entertainment? Oh, it is just a fantasy land, right?

According to DramaWiki, Pi (if you mean Rein, I still can't figure out if he is called Bi or Pi) was born in 1982 (http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Bi). So he is just a tiny little bit younger then you :P

Yep, definitely. My reaction comes from watching "Kurosagi" too. In some scenes he looks like quite mature late-twenties guy, but sometimes in te close-ups one can see how young and vulnerable he is. ** sigh **
