There is a time and place for everything. I coloured my hair for the first time today. Because my hair started to get gray. Well, I had a stint as a blond long long time ago but it was a bit of a disaster because my hair didn't really want to be blond and resisted it to the point of taking on a terrible orangy colour. I quickly understood my hair's wishes and never interfered with their colour again.

But it happened. TODAY. I had been postponing this for some time but I took a plunge today. Da-na! I actually like the colour A LOT and it is really similar to my natural one.. I should go and celebrate with some chocolate eclairs I have bought in "Sainsburys".

If this is fine to ask.. If you are already getting gray hair - DO you colour your hair? Or just let it be natural and elegant salt-and-pepper colour?

Фото в студию, плз! :D

I had my first (big) gray hair at the end of the 2007 year, and I DO color my hair to hide it now. But I colored my hair very often before - just for fun, So this is not something special for me.

I feel comforted that you "do it" too. :D

If I didn't color my hair I'd be snow white by now. My family has either dark brown or reddish hair, I was born with the dark shade. But when I started to go very gray I switched to auburn, chestnut, whatever you choose to call it and haven't changed the color in years. I love it.

You hair colour sounds great! May be one day I'l try something more exciting too (you know - whould it not be nice to have hair like Scully :D) but I wasn't sure if I am ready to hear all remarks I will get after turning bright red from our guys at work. :D The present colour is still quite a bit brighter than my own and I love this.

Wow, that's very late to get your first grays. I'm envious, since I got mine barely out of high school. Been dying my hair since I was 16 or 17, and have tried out all the hues from blue-black to ginger. I've never been blond, though... :P I'm going auburn next... Actually my hairdresser called it the colour of rich red wine. ;)

I had some gray hair but it wasn't noticeable before.

I loved your last hair colour. I think that like for me (we look similar! YAY!) it may be difficult for you to achieve real blond.

I started graying at the temples, so it was very visible when I didn't have fringes and wore my hair up in a ponytail. As far as blond goes, my eyebrows are way too prominent and dark for it to look good. I'm also rather pale so it would make me look a bit sickly. Hehe... I've had to make my hair light for the ginger colour to take effect, so I had a glimpse of what I'd look like blond and let me tell ya - it wasn't a pretty sight.

I just remembered that a while ago I posted a short history of the way my hair has changed since 1999. It's here (http://dianora77.livejournal.com/201470.html) if you wanna take a look. I6 doesn't include 2007/08 though... :D

I have tons of grey hair, but it's sort of spread out across all my hair rather than clustered in any particular place - so I haven't started coloring yet, because I know once I start, I'll have to keep going :)

Mine are positioned similar and only recently it wasn't noticeable. :D I think spring time made me finally do it, though.

But yes, I'll have to do it all the time now. Luckily a nice new salon has opened near us so I hope they will stay and I will be their customer for some time. :D I like the lady and she was excellent.

I've been gray since I was 20... so yeah. I color frequently. It's gone from red to blonde and now currently back to my natural very dark near black brown.

I've been going grey for a while (seriously over the last five years, since I turned forty). Right now it's very dark brown with "salt and pepper" and I probably won't colour it unless it turns a very unbecoming shade of yellow grey. I'm not much on with colouring as a long-term solution because I saw my own mother develop an allergic reaction to hair dye. Yuck! Plus, I never have time, during term, to get my hair cut. Cut and coloured? Impossible!

I like the hair that turned completely gray. My friend is like this - she turned complete;y gray in three month and her platinum hair looks really stylish.

She recovered very well (and switched to a less allergic dye formulation) and carried on for five more years before her death. It was just painful on the scalp for a few days (swollen and very itchy).

I keep hoping that I'll go grey with style mostly because, as I wrote above, I fail at getting my haircut so I know I'd have the most awkwardly multi-toned hair if I had to remember to get it coloured!

This is why I decided to do it in a salon rather than to do it myself. In salons there seems to be a fashion for dyes that are easier on your hair..

I started coloring my hair because as I got older my natural blondness turned into natural dirty icky blondness and I longed for the bright shiny locks of my youth. Now I have another reason to color my hair...gray. I have lots of gray in my hair. If my hair was still the natural bright blond of my youth, I'd probably just let the gray grow untouched. But I don't like the way it looks with the dark dirty blond. So I color it.

And that's the story of my hair. :)

My natural hair colour is mousy brown, so I used to dye my hair a lot when I was in my twenties (usually various shades of red). However, about 6-7 years ago I just deciced to let my hair grow out in it's natural colour (which I'd almost forgotten). I discovered my first white hairs about a year ago, but nowadays they are more common, though maybe not that noticeable to others :). I, of course, notice them...

Still, I wouldn't dye my hair just to hide the white hairs. I think I might do it (with a short-lasting dye) just for fun :).

Luckily my vision is not that good so I don't see greys too well. :D

You see, recently I decided to grow my hair. It seems that the greys are more noticeable now the hair are longer. I think if I still had short hair I would have just persevered.

Heh, I notice the white hairs fairly easily, since my hair is darkish, so the glinting of the white hairs when light shines on them can make them very noticable every now and then :/.

I'm actually happy that all the "grey" hairs I've noticed have been pure silver. My mother is a patchy grey/white but it looks like I might end up with pure white hair when I grow older. I'll just have to wait and see how it turn out :D.

Same for me - but I am also wondering if other people can see the side bits more.

My mother who is 70 hasn't gone completely gray yet so I guess I'll be like her. My father is all white and I agree - this looks so much better!

You bet I color my hair, though I get lazy and don't do it as often as I should. It was a reddish brown with red highlights in the sun in the old days, which is hard to replicate, so I tend to go reddish, as in this icon. I feel like the rest of me doesn't look my age, so why should my hair?

I started getting my first grey hairs about two years ago. They're still rare enough that I yank 'em out whenever I see them, but... The thing is, it's coming in an awesome full on white--If I could go white all over I'd think it was cool, but if it just goes to that salt-and-pepper duller grey, I'll probably keep dying my natural black/brown.

Oh, I've tinted my hair on and off for years. I think the first 'light' colourwash I had was when I was about 16. :) I'm dark brown naturally but I think I've tried most reddish or brown tints there are, ha.

I've been going gray for a while now and at the moment I'm quite 'natural'. *g* I'm planning to get a little 'boost' sometime soon though, for summer. I get bored about how my hair looks and then decide to do something about it. I don't really mind the gray, it comes with the age so at times I just don't bother with colouring.

I like when the hair is all grey or almost-all grey. It looks really quite regal. I think when I reach this stage I'll stop the colouring. But on the other hand, my mother is over 70 and still salt-and-pepper rather than all-white. So may be I'll never reach it.

I am glad you like your new color but I know that doing something new to your hair can often be a scarring and disappointing experience.

Oh, Sainsburys! I haven't heard that name in two years, not since I came back from London. Sigh...I miss, although I went to Tesco more frequently.

** agrees ** It was so true in my case of going blond. I was scarred for life. I guess one can't go against the nature. I am a brunette and I acn't fight it.
