alexandral: (The Legend - DD and his hair)
[personal profile] alexandral
I have finished Japanese drama "Trick". It has been the funniest and quirkiest show that ever crossed East/West divide and I loved it. To cut the long story short it is about two love-hate partners investigating supernatural phenomena, a magician and a scientist. Only the magician is a cute no-nonsense girl and the scientist is a too-good-looking scruffy professor conversed in martial arts and of course together they are a feisty mix.

I find it difficult sometimes to describe why I like something; it is much easier to list reasons of why you don't like something. In "Trick", I loved the main leads Nakama Yukie and Abe Hiroshi (and who would not, IMHO :D). And I loved the stories, very clever and suspenseful. And I loved the "main" series of jokes the nature of which I will not disclose as I am trying to keep away from spoilers. But if you have seen "Trick" you know the jokes I mean – they are so rude and so hilarious. I was very surprised to hear something like this in a Japanese drama and at the same time I was gigling. Anyways, if you need an intelligent pick-me-up show , "Trick" is the one for you. And if you you have seen "Trick" do you think "Trick 2" and "Trick 3" are as good as the first one?

Here they are: Yamada and Ueda, my funniest OTP in Japanese drama:

Yamada

One pretty

Amazon girl

Who can bend spoons with her brain.

Ueda

Cute glasses-wearer

With a smirk

I desperately need some Asian drama requests. "The Legend" has finised and left a big hole in me. I am waiting for the arrival of "Capital Scandal" but it is not here yet. I am also waiting for "Hong Gil Dong" to get fully subtitled. I need something to LOVE and I'll appreciate if you'll name the best Asian show you have seen in the last two month.

I recommend Itoshi Kimi E. It's my second favorite jdrama.

YAY! Thank you!!!! The ending? Good? Bad? I don't mind sight loss but I rather everyone was alive.

I am also waiting for "Hong Gil Dong" to get fully subtitled, I am too inpatient to wait in betweens.

Everyone is alive and happy at the end (well, FN goes blind, but other than that, I mean...)

Great! Thank you for letting me know! OTP in "Itoshi Kimi e" sure look pretty and I am very much sold by the promise of hurt/comfort..

Yup, it certainly has plenty of yummy hurt/comfort.

Also, how about 'Time Between Dog and Wolf?' It was really good and Lee Jun Ki was awesome in it, and nobody died at the end except for bad guys :)

I actually watched "Time of Dog and Wolf" on holidays, in a very ff-manner as it had plenty of un-necessary gangsters. But YES!! It also had some of the best "I'll be mean to you because I love you" scenes!!!!!!

Have you heard anything good about "Virgin Snow"? The title seems dodgy but I have seen it available somewhere.

It has an open ending (VS) and seems nice from what I heard, but not earthshaking.

Re: D/W. I loved all the LJK angst scenes. And I love that it's hinted they will be together at the end.

That is what I thought - looked as a cute teen movie. (not as if anything is wrong with this)

LJK should be made angst in all his dramas.

All of Trick is one of those rare shows where every season is just as good as the first. I loved all three of Trick as well as the two movies and the TV special. The things you love about the first season are kept and expanded upon. You HAVE to watch the rest of it.

Also, AWESOME to see that someone else has watched it.

EVERYONE must watch this. :D I mean - if only for Abe Hiroshi doing his karate thingy!!!

Thanks for the rec- I am now looking forward to more of the great Trick-ness. I see why this show had so many seasons (by Japanese standards) ..

IMO, Trick 2 isn't as good as Trick 1 and 3 because of the switch in writers. But it's still worth watching and definitely so you can get to Trick 3 which has the best damn ending of any jdrama ever! Soooo shippy.

Oh, and the first movie is AMAZING. A tip - watch it between 2 and 3 :)

I haven't yet! I remember few good recommendations but the drama seemed slightly hyperactive. This said, I am really enjoying Japanese dramas at the moment so may be this is the time to give it a chance.

Thank YOU!!!!

Well...there's 2 more Trick series, a special, and 2 movies(though not to be watched in that order) to go!

Two other good Abe Hiroshi dramas are Kekkon Dekinai Otoko and Dragonzakura.

I, too, long to have more dramas on hand.

Best I've seen in the last 2 months is "Lovers," easily. (Ok, actually not hard as I haven't watched many so far this year, but...)

And if you haven't seen it, I absolutely adore Fantasy Couple(by the same people as My Girl, Hong Gil Dong and Delightful Girl Chun Hyang)

But I haven't obtained them YET! Will their OTP be developed nicely? Will Ueda become a "full" professor? And what did you think about the "size" jokes?

Best I've seen in the last 2 months is "Lovers," easily. (Ok, actually not hard as I haven't watched many so far this year, but...)

LOVERS! And I take it "Delightful Girl Chun Hyang" is good?

I am so sorry - I forgotten to say "Thank you!"

I think the OTP goes well. The sxize jokes always crack me up.

I actually haven't seen Chun Hyang, but probably will eventually(despite FC and MG, I find it hard to work up an interest in itm for whatever reason, but most seem to like it.)

I can't shut up about "Trick" - I like mother too, and the policemen guys are hilarious. We have a guy at work who wears a wig and I think I am going to be giggling every time I see him.

I have heard good and bad things about Chun Hyang - some say that it starts well and lags in the middle. For me the minus is that it seems to be one of school dramas. It has been a long time since my high school and I don't find them as interesting.

Oh, I adore DGCH! It's in my top 10 kdramas. Also, it's not really a school drama. It starts in school, continues through college and then five or so years after it. It basically spans ten years or so.

It's really really good, I promise.

YAY! I am trusting your judgment (I think we only disagreed a couple of times on the subject of Kim Sam Soon and Long Vacation :D ) and so getting "Delightful Girl"!!

Wow I need to see this! It sounds like Galileo with more humor. :P Kdrama wise I haven't fallen in love with anything since Coffee Prince. I'am loving Hong Gil Dong! You should join into the fun the agony of the wait. :P Have you seen Hotaru No Hikari or Utahime? Those were my two recent favorites. :)

Date: 2008-02-07 07:50 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com
Actually you nailed it - "Galileo" is really made in a similar key, may be because of the fact that "Trick" was quite popular. These two are really in the same vein.

"Hotaru No Hikari" - I have heard that the ending is not so good?????

"Utahime" looks lovely..and good-ending-like . :D

From: [identity profile] allbloomedout.livejournal.com
Yay, I think i'll enjoy Trick too then. :) There's so many drams to watch! New and old :) Btw, the wait for Hong Gil Dong is actually not that bad. ^^ They come out with 2 eps subs ever weekend. :) I think 9-10 should come out very soon.

Hotaru no Hikari has a happy ending :)

Utahime is really great and cute! It does have a good ending (sort of). I can't explain without spoiling. :P But i'm satisfied with the ending. :)

For SP, I have got the pisode 9 already but I haven't watched it as it seems to be connected with the episodes 10 and 11.

What is Bara No Hanaya?

I think i noticed ep 10 subs were recently released. :)

Oops, I mean Bara No Nai Hanaya (a flower shop without a rose). It's a currently airing drama. It's so good! It's hard to explain without spoiling you so i'll give you what dramawiki says:

Shiomi Eiji is forced to become a single father when his girlfriend passes away while giving birth to their daughter, Shizuku. Desolate after the loss of the woman he loved, Eiji has little time or desire to even consider remarrying, working part-time jobs just to make ends meet. The one thing that gives meaning and joy to his life is Shizuku, but even that begins to trouble him when Shizuku begins acting strange, hiding her face by putting a cloth over her head when around other people.

One day after opening his flower shop, Eiji comes across a blind woman standing by the door, taking shelter from the rain. When he invites her to come inside the shop, she at first refuses, but later gives in to Eiji's kindness. They become intimate friends and she slowly grows to depend on Eiji's sincerity and goodheartedness. After rescuing her a following evening when she walks into the street and is nearly struck by traffic, Eiji himself inexplicably discovers the cold of winter that has saddled his heart all these years slowly melting away.

The subs are out so far to ep 3. :)

If you decide to watch Itoshi Kimi E as [livejournal.com profile] dangermousie suggests (I really liked that drama too, although it was a bit slow at some points imho) you may want to try Hotaru no Hikari, also staring FN ;)) I love that drama. It's mainly a comedy and I love it!

I'd also recommend Sailor Fuku to Kikanjuu, starring Tsutsumi Shinichi. It's half drama, half comedy, it doesn't have the perfect ending but it isn't bad and as a whole it's really good.

There is also a 2 hours drama special that I love called Deru Toko Demasho!! that is also funny and cute with two main characters that are fantastic!

Hope it helps! ;)

I am always in the "Tsutsumi Shinichi" mode. I had a huge upset this winter - I found "Yamato Nadeshiko" and it looked rather good but the files were so poor in quality that the watching was impossible. ** sighs **

I am always in the "Tsutsumi Shinichi" mode. Me too!

The version I have of Yamato Nadeshiko is hardsubs, is that the one that you meant? It isn't the best quality, I agree but Tsutsumi is so cute and adorable there that I didn't mind at the end.

If you haven't seen it yet, Koi ni Ochitara, starring Tsuyoshi Kusanagi from SMAP and Tsutsumi. I'm sorry to say that I didn't like Tsuyoshi too much there, but Tsutsumi is fantastic. I recommend it just for him.

I have gotten it originally from some other place (the name of which I forgotten) than usual. But I just found it in the usual place - I think I am going to get this.

"Koi ni Ochitara"? What is it about? ( I am sorry for asking but there seems no info on drama wiki)

If you don't want to take the time to get Yamato Nadeshiko, tell me and I can send it to you ;)

In brief, Koi ni Ochitara is about a humble guy (Tsuyoshi K.) that becomes a computer wizard that helps a company (Tsutsumi's character's company) to go up. However this gets them to confront each other an one point. There are a lot of suporting characters, love interests and all, but I think I shouldn't tell you more. I really like it although as I think Tsuyoshi didn't completely fit as the main character (but that's just my opinion). If you can't find it, tell me as well ;)
