Sore eye sitrep: I have conquered this, my eyes feel much better today! EEE! Squee! Thank you very much for all support!!!! But I am still trying to take it easy on eye strain which resulted in me mostly spending all the time of a sofa asleep and eating chocolates by kilograms. I am very much convinced that it was chocolates that healed my eyes and NOT the antibiotic eye drops prescribed by our GP. :P

Journeyman The only thing I HAD to watch was the first episode of Vorenus Kevin McKidd's new series "Journeyman". I must say that time travel never was my favourite direction of science fiction (I am more of a fantasy and space opera gal) and I am still not convinced the show's premise is strong enough to make it last . BUT! I did like the first episode of "Journeyman" quite a lot, mostly because all four of the main characters came across as interesting..

Now I say it with pictures )

OMPH! One of my systems has gone life on Saturday. I have been working flat out last week and feel a bit jittery at the moment (What if I left a completely silly bug somewhere or what if aliens will come down from space??). The manager of the project seems to be very happy with the things I have done, though.. *** wipes her brow ***

Parenting joys
Sasha is going to start the new school year tomorrow. It means no! to my long morning sleeps on Monday/Tuesday mornings but at the same time it means yes!! to some "home alone" time.. I am very a-flail about an important choice I need to make ASAP – I need to get a new school desk for Sasha, preferably very cheaply. Eight years of age seems to be the right time for a girl to get her own desk..
In a good parenting news Sasha and I have been doing math and literacy throughout the school holidays and she seems to be much more confident and much less concerned about making mistakes (it was said in Sasha's last year's school report that she is above average in everything but is afraid of making mistakes)..

Buffy
I have watched quite a bit of the season 2 of Buffy the vampire slayer and it is great (with much emphasis on greatness!) The storylines are so much better and more grown up this season and Spike did appear!! And Willow started to dress decently! And she got Oz-the-admirer who is so awesome! I liked the first season's Cordelia much more, though. It seems they are heading towards making her one of the Buffy's group, all pink and fluffy and kind. I liked her so much in her bitchy variety!

Journeyman I am so much looking forward to this new series with Vorenus Kevin McKidd. From tv.com website: "Kevin McKidd ( Rome ) stars as Dan Vasser in this new series from NBC set to air in the fall of 2007. Dan is happily married with a son. It seems like he has everything going for him. Dan ends up traveling into the past. He changes people's lives, sometimes for the better, but sometimes not. During his travels he meets up with Livia Beale, he was engaged to her when she died in a plane"..
I am not 100% sure about the premise yet.. Going to the past can play out nicely in episodic TV but I must see more..

Hana Yori Dango
This week was busy at work and my brain is dead (at least the part of it which normally functions) but so many exiting things are happening in the fictional world!!!! I wanted to post pictures of the latest Japanese drama which makes me smile and sigh at the same time – "Hana Yori Dango", but [livejournal.com profile] meganbmoore have posted most excellent pictures already!!! Here.

Anime: "Fushigi Yuugi" vs "Ayashi No Ceres"
I also was thinking why don’t I watch anime and that I really love Hayao Miyazaki’s animation films (my absolute favourite is "Princess Mononoke"). But big Thank You to [livejournal.com profile] meganbmoore and [livejournal.com profile] dangermousie , they gave me some great recommendations. Now I am torn between "Fushigi Yuugi" and "Ayashi No Ceres", but I am really inclined to watch Ceres because it seems to be darker and have a huge weakness for dark moods and themes.

Bittersweet Life
I also have watched "Bittersweet life", film of Korean director Kim Ki-woon. ("A Tale of Two Sisters"). I enjoyed it much more then I thought I would and the same happened with “A Tale of Two Sisters”. Both are more then their genre implies – "A Tale of two sisters" is more then a simple horror movie and "Bittersweet life" is more then a simple action/revenge flick. May be it is all in the cinematography and noir elements which are done to the perfection, and may be in some intangible qualities which hang beyond the frames and colours. "Bittersweet life" is a tale of a lone gunman set in seedy places of Seoul. I was spell-bound by the music in this film - it was amazing, heart-wrenching and uplifting at the same time.

This is my favourite scene: Main protagonist Sun-woo moves between two walls of light and into the darkness ahead.

One more amazing scene )

Dog Soldiers/ Kevin McKidd
On my wave of love for the HBO series "Rome" and for Lucius Vorenus in particular I watched "Dog Soldiers". It could have been a totally missable film if not for Kevin McKidd’s presence who played terribly efficient Pvt.Cooper. So it was not all that bad. :D. And I found a very stylish black-and white picture of Kevin McKidd!!!!

PS Nice weekend to you all!!!!!!!!!!!
