Ice World (Koori no Sekai)
RL and watching too many Asian dramas is not good for my sleep. This weekend I fell head over the heels in love with Japanese drama "Ice World" (Koori no Sekai). Two sleepless nights later I am still in love. Japanese dramas usually don't draw me in with the same obsession-inducing strength as Korean dramas do, but "Ice World" was an exceptional exception out of the rule.
I am not sure how much of the plot I can disclose without spoiling it all, so I'll try to be on the safe side: an isurance investigator Hirokawa Eiki (Takenouchi Yutaka, "Rondo") comes across a case of a woman, Egi Toko (Matsushima Nanako, "Forbidden Love"), who was a beneficiary for 3 life insurances. All three men died but the insurances were cancelled not long before their death. Who is mysterious Egi Toko? Some sort of a twisted black widow? How will her developing romance with Eiki unfold?
The drama starts like a mystery/crime story but around the episode 4-5 it turns into an unforgettable love story of two very strong but at the same time very broken people. Though the mystery became somewhat secondary for me in the second half of the drama I still though it was challenging enough. I was full of doubts all the way through and the ending came as a surprise. However, I liked the way the ending played out, as in the books of my favourite Agatha Christie the clues were there. I expect a Western re-make to be made!

( My best scene of a kiss in a Japanse drama, but the scene was dark and almost impossible to make the screencaps of. My apologies. )
Rondo I started to watch this drama because I crave something with Takenouchi Yutaka. I have watched 3 episodes so far , considering the first episode is twice as long, 4 episodes. I think I could have liked it more if it not for it's cinematographic style. Overuse of blinking and flashing images never goes well with my eyes. My another quibble is that this is clearly a drama-version of "Infernal Affairs" so I would have liked some credit to be given. But the main couple is lovely so I think I am going to finish this, Japanese dramas are so much easier to finish.
PS: any recommendations of dramas with Takenouchi Yutaka are very welcome!
