Having seen all the major teams already, I must note that apart from Germany (with their Teutonic spirit) and Netherlands (with their efficiency) and South Korea (with their speed) I am not terribly impressed by anyone else. Germany is going to win the whole thing, right?

In FIFA rankings order, top nine teams:

1) Brazil. This is becoming Brazil's tradition: sparks of brilliance among some odd defending.

2) Spain. Where did the team that won European Cup 2008 disappear?

3) Portugal is the only team I actively dislike, mostly for their "I am emo, I am crying, I am complaining to the referee" tactics; so far they are utterly unimpressive.

4) Netherlands. This is my sweepstakes team, and they look terribly efficient. Go go Go Netherlands!

5) Italy is better known for it's defense than for it's attack, and they have always been late starters. I have hope!!!!

6) Germany completely destroyed Australia and have been the most impressive team so far. They are going to win.

7) Argentina looks similar to Brazil: one minute they do something interesting, another minute everything falls to pieces. But Maradona is one of my main sources of this championship's entertainment

8) England. I kind of liked them but I might be wrong.

9) France are also known for their late starter strategies, but come on, guys! Some people paid their money to see you playing, please make a little bit of effort!

I have put together a little set of World Cup pictires. I was debating with myself as to which one is the best but I decided on the one below: this is what the World Cup is all about!

I am poorly with bladder infection (I wish I never knew what that is!), full of antibiotics that made me all red of face and tired for some reason. Silly me! I am supposed to be on holidays!!! But I am sure I will be better tomorrow, I must! We had a monster shopping trip planned with my friend. ** sigh **

Also - Italy / Paraguay ( 1:1 ) did not make me feel better. I blame everything on the rain. :P The picture below (from Guardian) does make me feel slightly better, though:

I am going back to my couch, rest and watch "Dong Yi" (it has really grown on me).

I am having a week of holidays starting last Friday (yes, I took them so that I can watch the World Cup on my new HD TV!) . So far I am loving it:

South Africa / Mexico : 1/1 I don't have any interest in either of those teams but I am glad the host team scored!!!!!

France / Uruguay : 0/0 I sat through the whole of it , but I don't know why. The championship has just began but we have already got the most boring game of the World Cup 2010.

South Korea / Greece : 2/0 I am so sad - I have missed this! We went ice-skating and by the time we got home it was over! South Korea is one of the teams I got for the "bonkers sweepstake" we are having at work. I am deeply rooting for South Korea!

Argentina / Nigeria : 1/0 So far, Argentina is the strongest and the most interesting team I have seen. Messi is rather cute and Maradona is incredibly hilarious . I am going to watch every game with Argentina from now on, his antics are incredibly amusing!!!!!

England / USA : 1/1 Whut! England hasn't won, but this has been the first time ever that I could safely say I liked our team. The arrogance they displayed in the last World Cup has completely gone! If they continue to play this way, I might end up cheering for them. Even Rooney 2010 is completely different from Rooney 2006, he is twice as slim and twice as fast!

One slightly tangential thing; before the match ITV showed what from the words of British commentators was an advert from one of the USA networks for the match. It was one of the most OTT patriotic things I have ever seen (with youth bands matching, ominous music and all such things). I wonder if they just made it up - I tried to find the advert on Youtube but couldn't. If any of you ladies and gentlemen from USA have seen the advert IRL - would you lead me to it?? Thank you!!!!!

The teams I got in The Bonkers Sweepstake are:
1. Netherlands
2. Serbia
3. South Korea
4. Ghana.
The rules are incredibly complicated. :D

I think I get enthusiastic about things quite easily and I like many different things all at once. I have been talking about Korean dramas quite extensively lately, but this is about to change! Because The World Cup is coming!!! Some of my LJ friends who know me longer than 4 years may remember that although I am not all that interested in football in general, I tend to become quite obsessed with the sport during World Cups and European Cups. And I am also a huge fan of Italian team. I used to be patriotic and support English team, but the World cup 2006 cured me of this; I have been never so disappointed in my entire life and have never cried so much about any sport event other than the loss by England in 2006 quarter-finals. Following the loss, I vowed to never support English team again. But there are so many other good ones!!!! I love Brazil, Argentina and Germany and Spain and Italy, and who knows? There might be some other not-so-well-known team that is awesome?

And of course, there will be Italy! I had a look at their recent matches, and worryingly they have some new rather ugly players (like Vincento Iaquinta), but I will not worry. At least, Gianluigi "Gigi" Buffon will be there!. My family seem to be quite inclined to support Italian team as well, and both Mr.Alexander and Little Sash have already acquired Italian jerseys. I am trying my hardest to find one for myself, but all in vain. It is an interesting phenomena that in the case of men's and children's t-shirts there seem to be three main options available here in Yorkshire: England, Brazil and Italy (I have never seen a German or Argentinian t-shirt in my life, but I guess they are old rivals?). In the case of ladies t-shirts the only option available is ENGLAND. This is a little odd: has there been some marketing research and they decided that the ladies of England are only interested in England? And that the ladies of England also prefer t-shirts with slogans like "tackle me" to normal non-obtrusive varieties?

In short: I want an Italian t-shirt. :D

Also, Mr.Alexander suggested today that we should probably buy a new BIGGER TV for the World Cup! Yes! I said!!! (And I have also booked a week of holidays during the World Cup time)

My favourite picture of Buffon, just to round up the good mood:
