Oh, it is wonderful. It is absolutely mine, very personal film.. My grandfathers (both) died in the WW2, not died actually but are "missing presumed dead" and my paternal grandmother starved to death in the occupied territories whist waiting for my grandfather to return.
How awful - I always think that to be born in Russia at the beginning of the twentieth century must have been one of the worst fates you could experience!
I read in a wonderful book about the Red Army that the families of those who were "missing" were denied pensions, because the assumption was that the men had deserted or something even though this was, of course, so wrong. And even now, they are still finding remains and trying to identify them so the families can maybe get a pension after all these years.
