I spent the first half of today at the dentist’s (but this is the pre-ultimate visit!!). The second part of today went much, much better in watching and re-watching 17th episode of HBO series “Rome”, “Heroes of the Republic”. I loved this episode in so many ways that I can’t contain my glee and can’t even wait until the icons are ready, I must speak of it!!!

1. The beginning was very good (not counting the false-start of repentant Timon to whom I can’t warm up yet) . But then – YAY! Pullo and Vorenus are back together side-by-side and shoulder-to-shoulder:

2. Cunning Cicero was rather a nice treat too, especially because he has a way of speaking with his hands that I love:

3. But even more, I liked the lovely trio of Octavian/Agrippa/Maecenas. We can see Maecenas a little better in this episode and he is very cute in bohemian sort of way, but strangely reminds me of Mr.Wickham in BBC adaptation of "Pride and prejudice". But of course, Agrippa is my favourite:

4. Eurene’s happiness at the sight of Pullo and her warmth towards the children are so lovely:

5. And Vorenus is bonding with the little boy and I can totally can see how the boy is going to be his father’s favourite. But I try not to think that eventually he is going to grow and learn who his real father was and what happened to him:

6. The scene where Eurene tells Pullo that he "loves Vorenus more then he loves her" was absolutely delightful. I was smiling silly to myself for about 10 minutes. (And after that Agrippa’s scene came along and I had even more reasons to smile). I am so happy for Pullo!! Eurene loves him!!! She is jealous!!! Well, I guess she has a cause too. :D But silly, of course Pullo loves Vorenus, but NOT in THAT way!! Not in the way he loves YOU!!! And he was speaking with her in that special soft and happy voice!!! ** swoons **

7. Atia has picked herself up and is back to being cunning and sharp-tongued!! Though I was a little upset for Octavian in this scene because if your moter has to fake her motherly feelings for you, oh gosh, this is kind of heart-breaking!!

8. But whom Alexandra likes the most! Lucius Vorenus!!! I really respected the way he was so matter-of-factly and open about the things that happened to children because, yes, you can’t hide from your demons. You must face them. But I also loved that he listens to Pullo and discusses things with him and how they are back to being a tight knitted unit together.

9. And Octavian still remembers Pullo. If there was nothing else good about him, I would have loved him for the way he treats Pullo. And wonderful loyal Pullo!! When he was talking about Vorenus he was always referring to him as "my friend" (and I was swooning every time).
I thought that in this scene Octavian looked very much like Caesar (when played by G.Hinds).

10. "Octavian and Senate" scene was absolutely priceless,

and so was Cicero’s expression!!

11. I am not sure about Gaia yet, but I though that the sex scene between her and Vorenus was rather hot. (and I had to re-watch it few times :D)

12. But HERE is Alexandra’s scene of the day: Agrippa declares his feeling in a manner worthy of classical poets:
Maecenas and Agrippa at the orgy. Both cute beyond any measure:

I can’t get over how the actor playing Agrippa can be so teddy-bear cute but also so poetic and also so wonderfully decisive. Here!!! He picks Octavia up from the orgy. And then upon questioning by her mother he declares his feeling and says "I can tear the sky down for you if you ask". I am absolutely in LOVE!! If this goes on any longer, Agrippa is going to become my favourite character in this show.

13. Back to Lucius Vorenus. His head has cleared and he is back to his strategical thinking ways!. I must admit that this is probably one of the things I like so much about him, that he is so smart. Making peace with Memmio and Cotta but at the same time sowing the seeds of war between them is so much of old Vorenus I like!!

14. Though I don’t usually like BEARDS, they seem to grow some special varieties of them in "Rome". First Brutus, now Mark Antony.

15. Gorgeous cap of Agrippa to round the thing up:

Date: 2007-02-12 05:49 pm (UTC)Heh! I'm basing it on one bitchy comment she made to Eirene in an earlier episode. (And this is very unfair to Gaia, because it's not her fault, but I hate that Pullo keeps eyeing her up. He OWES Eirene to be faithful to her, dammit!!) And I don't want Vorenus to love her anyway - I just watched "Kalends of February" again and I loved Niobe so much :(
I liked the way Vorenus speaks about things openly, it is always better on the long run.
I have to watch again, but I have the impression that he feels everything is over once they have that cleansing ceremony, but I wish someone (Vorenus? Pullo?) had said something to the children about how crazy and distraught he was when he thought they were dead. I think this would help them understand that he loves them very much.
I am also amused that they actually have a totally different Vorena Minor in this episode. Pullo was not kidding when he said the slave camp would change the children :P

Date: 2007-02-13 01:27 pm (UTC)I remember the comment, but took it with the pinch of salt, like catty woman things. Eurene was not all over the place to here neither. I don’t particular know what to think about Gaia, probably that she is very materialistic and hard-core, but I am not sure yet because we didn’t see much of her. I saw you commenting on Pullo eyeing her before, but I didn’t notice this at all myself. He did look at her, but I definitely thought he was looking at her more in a way “and who is she dressed so scantily” and being a little disapproving then in a way “she is attractive”. I must see more of this, but I honestly think Pullo is safe. :D
And I don't want Vorenus to love her anyway - I just watched "Kalends of February" again and I loved Niobe so much :(
Oh, I don’t want him to love anyone just yet, for the same reason. But scenes of tortured sex involving Vorenus are one of my guilty pleasures, so I guess I could do with more of them. :D

I watched again, and I don’t think he thinks everything is over. He has quite a guilty face when he speaks with children in this episode IMHO. I think he gets to hope at the end and it is so sad that Vorena is really faking it. But as we spoke before, I am full of hope (oh well, there must be angst, but!!)
I think someone SHOULD tell them , and I expected it to be Lyde (or PULLO!! Why are you not speaking to children!! I expected him to bond with little Vorena!). I re-watched the first episode in this season and Vorenus definitely told Lyde that Niobe killed herself. And Lyde is old enough to understand that he didn’t sell them into slavery, but rather was looking for them everywhere. But I think she blames Vorenus for Evander’s death and we should not wait for anything good happening here!

They probably thought that under layer of dirt noone noticed that previous Vorena Minor was different :D
PS: And yes, I did go to sleep yesterday!! :D I am doing “The Painted Veil” icons and they are consuming my brain. But it is not so bad, as you know I don’t work Mondays and Tuesdays, so I had a morning nap after I dropped my daughter at school!
