alexandral: (A love to kill - Hugs)
[personal profile] alexandral
I am at the end of episode 11 of "The Snow Queen". I think this will end up to share my favourite drama place with "A Love to Kill", though they are completely different. ALTK is full of very dark undertones, Doestoevsky-like emotions of complexity and Angst (with the capital letter). Where ALTK is dark, "The Snow Queen" is pure. Where ALTK is Dostoevsky-like, "The Snow Queen" is indeed like a fairytale written by Andersen. As to Angst, there is enough angst in the both of them, and amazingly beautiful angst. :D One of the best things I like about "A Love to Kill" is that IMHO it has the best cinematography in Asian dramas, totally out-of-this-world. One of the best things I like in "The Snow Queen" (apart from the main hero played by Hyun Bin :D who is a math genius and has the child-like wonder of the character) is that it is filmed like a movie, not like a drama. No slow moving scenes, no annoying secondary characters. As [livejournal.com profile] vierran45 said, everything serves the point.

And as ALTK has some of the best and most passionate scenes of "THE Kiss" (and not only among Asian dramas), "The Snow Queen" has some of the most fresh and heart-breaking scenes of "The First Love".

One of my ever favourite scenes in "The Snow Queen" is in the episode 10. And this scene is one of my "BIG LOVES". As [livejournal.com profile] dangermousie correctly pointed in her post, not all cliche's are bad. Some of them just do so much for me that I cry /laugh/get heart flutters every time I watch them. And this is one of my favourites scenes in the world:

My heart flutters/I cry every time:

- When for some terrible, terrible reason hero and heroine can't be together

- and he knows the reason, but she doesn't

- and he has to pretend that he doesn't love her because if she found that reason it would have broke her and he can't stand her to be broken

- and then she comes and tells him how much she loves him

- but he says he does not love her (though of course he does love her to death) and hopes she will just forget him, because he thinks this will be better for her

- and then they both are in the beautiful Angst.

Deuk Gu discovered that Bo Ra is a sister of his childhood friend (the one whose death he feels responsible for), so he quit from Bo Ra's house chauffeur position. But Bo Ra of course has a strong character and has to go and find out why he has left. This is a moment he sees HER. ** sigh **

And he starts to say something like "Don't come here anymore" and he obviously is trying to be rude because he thinks this is in her best interests and he doesn't mind that she will feel bad about him as long as she is happy.

And she keeps asking him why he quit and is quite forceful because he matters so much to her

He says "I am not your chauffeur" in a dismissing way, but he carefully avoids the eye contact and generally looks like his heart is about to break

And then he trns to go away, but she shouts "Stop"

And then she confesses her love - "I like YOU!!!"

And he is about to faint (or at least so he looks) and there is a mixture of many many feelings on his face - torture, pain, unbelief, but among all of it his eyes are so wide, surprised and crying for love.

And all he can say is "Don't joke" and goes away.

But she catches up with him and huges him.

But of course he still goes away and then they ANGST in unison listening to the music of Bach.
