It is very late, but I feel I must post for two great reasons:
1) I must say huge THANK YOU to wonderful and thoughtful
nutmeg3 for the lovely card and a Bronx Zoo calendar that have arrived today. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! And all the pictures in the calendar are
nutmeg3's photographs!! Sasha and I had many long happy hours looking at the FANTASTIC photographs of animals in
nutmeg3's LJ, but now we have THE CALENDAR. And to make the squee in our house never ending, we found out that there is a tiger in the Zoo called Sasha. My dearest is incredibly impressed too. And I keep saying - "I KNOW the person who made the photographs!!!". Thank you so so much,
nutmeg3 !!! You are fantastic!!
2) I am so fascinated by the upcoming Hong-Kong movie "Confession of pain". It is directed by Andrew Lau, the director of "Infernal Affairs" and the two main leads are Tony Leung and Takeshi Kaneshiro:

Why I am fascinated by this film so much:
+ "Infernal Affairs" is one of my ever favourite films and Tony Leung and Takeshi Kaneshiro are both incredibly talented actors. When I think about them being together in one film I get very very excited. This is so my thing, something I like in films - non-romantic relationship between two men. Tutor/pupil, friends, brothers, I love it.
+ The story goes like this: "In a city of love and prosperity (Hong Kong?), a city of lost hope and premature death, veteran detective Hei (TONY LEUNG CHIU-WAI) feels it all: the hurt, the helplessness, the horror. When his father-in-law, the billionaire benefactor Kim, is gruesomely murdered in his palatial mansion, he enlists the assistance of his former partner turned private detective, Bong (TAKESHI KANESHIRO)"
Good summary, I especially love the bit about "a city of lost hope and premature death", I am looking forward to exploration of modern megapolis (Hong Kong). And Tony Leung can do "the hurt, the helplessness, the horror" so well!
+ Looking for some promotion pictures on soompi forums I read the following : "Have been maintaining a mentor / protege relationship for many years, Lau and Yau are both involved in the investigation of a murder of an entire family, which is somehow connected to the past of Lau and Yau." This sounds so INTERESTING!!
+ I have read somewhere that even though the film takes place in Hong Kong, the city in the poster (above) is different. I wonder if this is true.
+ I believe that the direct translation of the title is "The wounded city". I love this title, but I am not sure if this is true.

Date: 2006-12-14 10:27 am (UTC)Sasha (Alexandra is the full name, actually, Sasha is a Russian shortening of Alexandra) is a male name as well as female. :D. It is much more popular as the male name.

Date: 2006-12-14 12:45 pm (UTC)We gave Sasha her names because it was her grandfather's name (who died in the WW2) and also it was a good Russian name which is not difficult to pronounce for the English speakers. Many other names, even Tatiana sound quite different in Russian.

Date: 2006-12-14 01:06 pm (UTC)I think nowdays some girls in UK an US are given "Sasha" as a standalone name. And it always surprises everyone how Sasha can be derived from Alexander. :D
diminutives would be Al, Alex, Xander...stuff like that.
This what we had in mind when we were giving the name too - When Sasha grows up, she can decide which diminutives she prefers, but for us we will be able always to call her "Russian way".
And it is always good to have a variety of choices. Like my husband's name is Ian - one can't make any possible diminutives from this. :D

Date: 2006-12-14 12:50 pm (UTC)I believe it was a very similar budget for Infernal Affairs, as opposed to "The Departed".

Date: 2006-12-14 11:45 am (UTC)Still, the thought of Tony Leung and Takeshi Kaneshiro in the same movie that is made by the director of the IA films makes me very excited. I just hope the film comes to the theaters here!

Date: 2006-12-14 12:53 pm (UTC)I hope too! I really like how Takeshi is looking in this film, and he is probably the only actor who can carry his sideburns well. :D

Date: 2006-12-14 11:15 am (UTC)Have you seen Infernal Affairs II? I was thinking of purchasing it the other day but changed my mind 'cause I didn't know whether or not it was good. What I really want is Infernal Affairs.

Date: 2006-12-14 12:59 pm (UTC)It may be just me, but it seems like he has a faux nose. But he is definitely thinner, and I like this!! And YAY! He is so great in the angsty roles.
Takeshi looks as awesome as ever
He does!! I saw a couple of his his pictures with th beard on soompi. Now, that was a strange sight!!
Have you seen Infernal Affairs II?
No, I haven't! I plan to catch up on this during the holidays. I have seen the third one, though and it was very stylish and sleek . Leon Lai is so good in it!

Date: 2007-01-15 10:13 pm (UTC)The screenplay was surprisingly uninspired. However, the acting of the two male leads were wonderful. Takeshi holds his own pretty well. And we all know what Tony Leung can do, and he doesn't disappoint. Worth seeing for the great performances, just don't expect another "Infernal Affairs."
