A Big Rant:

OH NO LJ YOU ARE IDIOTS. Idiots! Taking away Subject field and spell checker and all other good stuff. This is so bad that I feel like laughing. I guess I am in shock. This is such a huge fail. In the announcement post (here, in Russian, thank you to coffee_n_cocoa) the tone of the developers' words is absolutely abhorring. I don't know if this comes though in the translation (Translation, thank you to coffee_n_cocoa), but I have never seen anything as self-entitled, self-congratulating and self-everything. It is as if they are talking to someone beneath them.

Personally I think that this is a move against free Users and Communities. LJ doesn't want them.

But, I must tell you ladies and gentlemen that I don't think "this is the fault of Russians" . Russian LJ users also suffer en masse, complain using every strong Russian word they can find and ask to give them back their subject lines (in this post, thank you to coffee_n_cocoa for the links). Russians are your friends, not your enemies. :D The cold war is over.

Hmm, I feel a bit selfish, but at the same time I am glad that the Flexible Square problems are finally sorted and I can get back to my customised comments. I had this LJ layout for so many years that I have bonded with it and I was suffering during the period I had to use default comments (I never liked them).

Also, I am still staying on LJ and will be staying until I will leave completely and forever. I have roots here, and if LJ gets too bad, I will stop using it and move.. I don't where yet. Tumblr most likely.

And oh, DW? I don't like it. For me DW is Apple of blogging, too much of a cult. This has always been the main problem for me: I don't really see any alternative to LJ out there.

PS: Dear Idiotic LJ Developers, this is CHRISTMAS, for goodness' sake, not April Fools' day!

Edit: I have complained to the Customer Support. Disappearance of the old functionality counts as a bug, so I logged this as one. I know this is not much, but not much is better than nothing and I hope that if LJ receive a large amount of support requests something can be done. I am an optimist.

If you have or have paid for your account and have an S2 style, then for now, you will be okay. Sort of. From what I understand although you'll still have your comment subjects, the actual nesting of the comments will be messed up. I believe. I could be wrong.

But, as long as you want to give LJ money, give people who have no concern for what its customers want, then you will have some of the old features.

And this is what those at LJ are counting on. They will put up with the pages of complaints, and pretty much ignore them, secure in the knowledge that they aren't going to lose a majority of folks because of the hassle it would take to move. Sadly :(

I am the same. I am going to stay and if things will get too BAD I will just give up, move to blogging. But this is unlikely.

I'm not using LJ that much anymore. I still comment, but...I guess I'll do that from gmail from now on? The new comment page hurts my eyes, not to mention how it's all buggy.

You know how I feel about DW, sorry! And my short stunt on it during the LJ DDoS problems didn't make me feel better.

BTW, I HATE the new Gmail look-and-feel too, HATE IT WITH PASSION and I was upgraded into the new look-and-feel without me ever saying "yes". Do you know of any way to revert to the old Gmail look-and-feel?

I said the same thing about Dreamwidth being too smug, just like Apple, to someone earlier today. The thing that pisses me off the most is that in a lot of styles, when I go to choose an icon I have to wade through 200 pictures to pick one - and they're in the order I uploaded them, not alphabetical order, which is time-consuming and infuriating.

I'm so furious right now that I'm practically incoherent.

I think for me the huge-ness of it all hasn't sunk in yet. I have been pretty active in LJ comms last year, and now, what? NO SUBJECT LINES?

Personally I hate the lack of spell checker the most. :(

OMG THE SMUG. I really dislike DW: I find it ugly, and for whatever reason, its vocab (circles, access, etc) is completely nonintuitive for me. And given that my profession sort of has a lot to do with language? I would like to believe that the shortcoming is on DW's side, there, and not mine. Also, every time I try to actually transfer my LJ posts over there, it craps out.

But mostly, I'd love if DW actually seemed to offer anything beyond "bigger text limits" and "we're not LJ!" I feel like just sort of skulking around and being the not-LJ does not inspire me that the site is actually offering anything great, or that it has the potential to.

Some good things were done to S2 style (the one the usual modified layouts have) , the bad things happened to the default style, which you usually see in communities.

Oh, I've long since let go of being aggrivated by the fail that LJ keeps on heaping on us as it's pointless. Though this new development seems like the hight of stupidity. I've never understood the burning passion for 'improving' or 'fixing' things that don't need improving nor fixing.

I wish there was a good alternative for LJ as DW doesn't really fit the bill. I've also got too much history here to just pack up and go unless thing really go to pot.

Removing current functionality - the thing is almost unheard in systems development, because there will always be users that use the missing functionality , so they will complain. I don't know what they are thinking of.

They forced me to change my old S1 Dystopia layout, which I've had as long as I've had an LJ, because I loathe the new comments page so much.

I'm not leaving LJ, but I am going to try and update my DW journal by importing the two years worth of entries that are not over there yet. But I will wait till after Christmas or until the mass exodus slows down. I'm just going to start doing what a lot of other people do and that is make my original posts at DW and have them mirrored to my LJ account.

I really don't like DW, I tried many times but I get that weird "we are so superior/we are against LJ" feel I don't like at all.

My New Year Resolution is to start using Tumblr properly. I like it too, it definitely is different , light and very good for graphical content.
