Oct. 6th, 2005 01:55 amDear appreciators of the wonderful talent of Toby Stephens and the miracle of wit which is “Twelfth Night”. I should be sleeping now in preparation for interviewing some “programmer-analyst” wannabes tomorrow, but instead I am making my first TOBY’s post. I believe there are important things in this world and not very important. And let all the “programmer-analysts” be sorry tomorrow..
My favorite scene from "Twelfth Night" in pictures of TOBY.
I apologise for imperfections and promise to do better next time
The scene which haunted me for more than 20 years:
(Thank you for the text to the Project Gutenberg)
Orsino: (Lying as wounded hero and dying from love. I love men wounded and in particular dying from love. Viola is playing piano very beautifully)
"If music be the food of love, play on,
Give me excess of it; that, surfeiting,
The appetite may sicken and so die.--
That strain again;--it had a dying fall;
O, it came o'er my ear like the sweet south,
That breathes upon a bank of violets,
Stealing and giving odour."

In the middle of the passage Viola realises that she may be playing too well for a boy and attempts to play ropier)

But, of course dying hero recognised that it is not the same anymore and rises up:
"Enough; no more;"

He moves very swiftly for a dying hero:

And this is a line which I am in absolute raptures about, I don’t know why, but it is just so perfect. It is the way Toby utters it, so sweet. And dying hero has an adorable and cunning smile (Two parts):
"'Tis not so sweet now as it was before."

Also I have included picture below where you can see clearly what lovely green eyes Toby has. With little specks. And incredible eyelashes. Green eyes are my favourite.

Date: 2005-10-06 01:04 am (UTC)Toby looks great as Orsino and I also like this particular part! Don't know why but Orsino wounded like this reminds me of Oleg in The Barber of Siberia and Jane pays him a visit...
Anyway, I think I'm going to bed now ;)
