Dong Yi ( and tiny bit about foorball)

This was a very rewarding day of football, both Netherlands (2:1) and Brazil (3:0) winning comfortably. The sad thing is, it seems quite unfair that one of these great teams will have to go soon (they have to play against each other in the quarter-finals). Sometimes the way quarter-finals are arranged doesn't seem to be fair.
In non-football news, I haven't been watching too much of other things, but I have watched some. I got stuck in middle of the 12th episode of "My country calls" due to too much fun and fluff and not enough angst.
The currently running drama I like the most so far (not counting "Bad Guy" that seem to have disappeared somewhere) is Dong Yi. I am up to date with all the subtitled episodes and this drama is a quiet hit with me. The main appeal, of course, is that the drama is all about women. Any male characters and any romances seem to be secondary to the various and awesome female characters.
Speaking of male characters, I am very very angry with the King at the moment. He has a a lovely adorkable romance with Dong Yi, but this doesn't mean I am going to forgive him for unfairly dethroning of his quite fabulous lady wife (who was framed by his evil consort/concubine) . Man up, King Sukjong, sort out your problems with various women and stop being so naive! It is not right for the first man of the country to be so gullible, plus, clearly, his story is another prof that monogamy is a healthy option.
On the plus side, the love triangle with King Sukjong - Dong Yi - Chun Soo hasn't has surfaced yet and I really really hope that it never will. I hope Chul Soo will get to have his own romance with one of Dong Yi's friends.
But although the King is too naive for words, his pining for disappeared Dong Yi is lovely and makes my hart beat faster , gives me goose bumps and nice tugs at my chest , as all good romance stories should.
This was a wonderful scene: The King is pining for Dong Yi under the falling cherry petals; one petal is heart shaped and it flies all the way to the place where Dong Yi is hiding. AWWWWWWWWWWWW!

Date: 2010-06-28 09:07 pm (UTC)Oh! I didn't know you were watching My country calls! I'm watching it too and, again, I started watching this on a sudden whim cos one night I literally had nothing to do and I liked it, despite being a bit too slapstick at the beginning. It gets better as it goes, doesn't it? How do you like Horan? I'm not quite about her acting style (Alex was a loooot better in Pasta imho). What do you think of Do Hoon? OMG the last scene!!!! Omg!!!! Jin Hyuk WTFed a lot in his head, didn't he? ^^ I can't wait for ep 13 ETA: I have a feeling it'll get angstier now. I mean, I can't imagine it not going down that road now although I'm sure it'll still be essentially a drama lighter tone.
BTW, I can't wait till you start Coffee House. It's the best romcom of the year IMHO.

Hee! I haven't even got to the end of the episode 12 yeat, I am in the middle. :D
I am glad you like Coffee House - our tastes are similar, I am going to start it ASAp.

Date: 2010-07-01 03:28 pm (UTC)I found Ha-na a bit annoying at first (but not as annoying as Lee Soo-kyung's character in Soulmate. OMG I hated her so much in that one. Sososo much), she's much better now. Kim Sang-kyeong is better in movies, imho. I'm def going to check out more projects of Ryu-jin. Capital Scandal, Y/Y?

Date: 2010-07-01 06:10 pm (UTC)You haven't watched it yet??? Watch it like.. YESTERDAY. It is one of the bestest , absolutely bestest dramas. Ryu-jin is AWESOME in it, but absolutely different. I didn't realised he is such a good actor.
Kim Sang-kyeong is better in movies, imho
For me too, I have seen him doing really serious stuff (like in "Memories of the Murder") and he was fantastic.

I remember that I once wrote in a comment that I don't like it that in this drama women don't have real power. And relised that this was kind of short-sighted. Because women have a lot of power, but a different one. They need to be saved when assassins, etc are involved, but especially Dong Yi leaves nearly everyone behind when it comes to thinking and boldness.
Oh, but I love it that the king can't fight and has to be saved as well when in difficult situations. *gg*
I'm angry with him, too. The (rightful) queen is so awesome. But it's also fascinating how Lady Jang changed. She was so kind in the beginning, but now she really freaks me out. Kudos to the actress, she does a fabulous job.

the actress does morally ambiguous roles of "villain with human face" amazingly well. She was the same in "Temptation of an angel".

Date: 2010-06-28 11:37 pm (UTC)i'm afraid to tell you that CS love will surface out but too late. in my case, is not because i love the king/DY relationship but because i can't stop thinking that CS was there for her since she was young like her brother and she does not think anything else of him.
and yes, i was so angry at king sukjung for listening to JHB but i think i undesrtand his actions. all evidence are agaist the queen and all he can do is just go according to the law.
there are so many wonderful scenes coming up in eps 29 and 30 that makes your heart melts even more

** sigh ** It looks like it! Gosh, I was hoping to have a drama without love triangles! It would have suited him better to continue viewing her as a sister and fall in love with the awesome ginseng lady. ** sigh again**

he could have let Dong Yi speak! ** is angry still **
