alexandral: (World Cup 2010 - Brazil Hug)

I am so so happy for the host country! South Africa:France , 2:1.

I want "South Africa" to go to the next round; if Mexico and Uruguay match ends in a draw,I will harbor all sorts of suspicions!

I am so so happy!

But I am less happy about following things:

- There have been quite a lot of drama already in this World Cup; so far the French team debacle is the biggest and the nastiest. Their match with South Africa feels like they are not even trying, and what a disgrace this is!

- I am also quite surprised by the way the yellow and red cards have been dished out like hotcakes. I don't think the red card against South African goalie was fair, but the one against Kaka was the worst of all.

- David Villa Punching Emilio Izaguirre just out of the blue was a nasty one as well.

To end the post on less grumpy note and celebrate my recent interest in Kaka, here is a short pictorial collection of the footballer with the STRANGEST NAME EVER (it literally means "poo" in Russian, and as I was told, in some other languages as well) who is nonetheless one of the hottest and bestest footballers there is:

Edit: I just have watched the footage, and after the match Raymond Domenech REFUSED TO SHAKE HANDS with the South African coach. OMPH! The man is a lunatic!

Edit 2: Argentina : Greece , 2 : 0 ! Fantastic! I am so happy for MessiArgentina !

South Korea : Nigeria , 2 : 2. This was a really good match, and I am so so happy my South Korea is going through!!!!!!!

French Team... when they'll come back to the country... that's going to be something. I can't tell you how people are dissing them here right now. And with good reasons.

I was never a fan of this team but they (and their coach and the staff and the all bloody french federation) disgraced their shirt. They will never ear the end of it ^^'.

I am a big fan of Zinedine Zidane, and have always viewed French team very fondly.

But yes, this is probably one of the worst (if not the worst) scandal I have seen in the history of World Cups.

the french are being very badly behaved indeed! It amuses me no end :-)

"caca" in spanish meaning "poo" has the accent on the first syllable. I don't know if Kakå (damn my keyboard won't make the right accent) means the same. But it is a weird nickname, it sends my almost-13 year old into spasms of laughter whenever he hears it.

What's his real name? Definitely, he is cute. Cuter than Reynaldo, for sure.

Thank you for the info! I think Russian is quite forgiving as far as emphasis goes: you usually can do both..

Hee! His real name is Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite . :D Wkipedia tells me that this is "a common term of endearment of "Ricardo" in Brazil."

Really? Than what about meter in poetry? All I know about Russian can be summed up as follows

1. Cyrillic alphabet
2. Noun declensions
3. Er ... that's it.

I would have guessed they'd go for Ricardinho. Or Kakadinho. Though that looks like some kind of brand name.

The name Ricardo has several nicknames: Ricky, Rica, Ricardinho (like you said), Cadu, and Kaká. And you're also right about the emphasis being on the second syllable, kaKA... Kaka only sounds like poo in spanish, if the emphasis is on the first, KAka. Also, in portuguese poo is "coco", but we can also use "caca" thought it's not so common (emphasis on the first syllable too)

Wow, a whole paragraph about a name that sounds like poo. LOL

Thank you so much for the explanation! I have been wondering for ages where the name came from.! And it makes sense too , and it doesn't sound anything special in English AT ALL.

hee! I know!!!

You're welcome! In Brazil we can make weird nicknames for almost any names... some are very funny and don't make any sense at the same time.

Hehe! I remember some of the olden footballer nicknames! For about 25 years I was sure Pele is his surname. :D

I didn't even know that Pele had a "real" name till I looked him up on Wikipedia!

Now I work with a woman who was married to a guy who grew up in Brazil so I have been hearing lots about nicknames for footballers ;-)

Russian I would say is a very flexible language, the main difference with English is that the structure of the sentence is pretty flexible, and any word , depending on the position in the sentence and on the declension (for verbs as well as for nouns) can change the meaning dramatically.

Another difference is the wide use of prefixes and endings.

Emphasis is pretty flexible too, many words can have two or more acceptable emphasises.

Kaka means "poo" when the emphasis is on the first A - kAka, when the emphasis is on the second A (kakA) the word means "to go do a poo" in a way you can say to a child..

LOL I am such a pedant.

Thank you for the disquisition on Kaka's nickname! I expect we shall be seeing more of him in the next few rounds (it is the Brazilian tradition after all)

I repeated everything you wrote to my husband, who has now shut up about K's nickname meaning "shit" (the English ...)

I find it so interesting that these syllables mean "poo" in so many different languages.

Not in Asia as far as I know, though.

No, must be something to do with Latin? Russian has a lot of Latin influence.

Thank you I have often wished that I took the opportunity to learn Russian in high school. But at the time I was much more interested in Spanish.

David Villa Punching Emilio Izaguirre just out of the blue was a nasty one as well.
This one just sealed my hate for Spain. They played so dirty against Honduras but that move was appalling to me b/c it was absolutely uncalled for and just a major dick move. Not to mention Ramos shoving that defender so hard that he tumbled away and then kneeing the goalie and not even apologizing. Ugh I cannot stand Spain.

OH A KAKA PICSPAM! I APPROVE!

I watched the repeat of David Villa's punch on Youtube and he is just passing by and then "boom!". And of course, he is saying now that this was an automatic reaction to Emilio Izaguirre's "tramping" on him!

he! he is such a pretty boy! And I am still unhappy about his red card!

Date: 2010-06-22 06:49 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sodahands.livejournal.com
Oh I know. That feet trampling thing is total bs. Apparently he's got a history of shoving and hitting players of opposing teams unprovoked. I just can't understand how he has fans or how Spain supporters can just be all "lol but it was funny". It wasn't. I can't even imagine how humiliating it was for that player.

IKR! Ugh I'm going to miss him on Friday.

they like to do these things in ice hockey, but they also have helmets and even there, I have never heard of someone just passing by and punching a guy in the face!!

I want Brazil to wipe the floor with Portugal

I don't mind bodyslamming in hockey because that's just a huge part of the game. But hitting someone in the face for nothing esp. a player in a smaller team who's already losing the game anyways is just disgusting to me. And to make things worse when they took it to the ref he tried to hit him again.

YES!

he did! And I also caught some of the "oh, what a good fun!" remarks that are baaaaaaad. Whoever wins, I don't want them to be Spain.

Date: 2010-06-22 06:27 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com
I think there must be some reason for this behind the scenes (may be the referees were told to be more vigilant by FIFA) but this doesn't really help anything!!!!

Date: 2010-06-23 01:20 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] calculare.livejournal.com
If ‘more vigilant’ means calling things that didn't happen, and ignoring others that did...sure. I know it's a part of the culture of football, and all, but I really think introducing replay capabilities when it came to penalties would be a good thing.

Date: 2010-06-23 10:39 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com
Yes, I hope soon enough the referees would be able to have remote replay devices!

Domenech - I have never knew that he is so crazy. I remember hearing some commentators saying before the World Cup that he is very unpopular. I see why!
