I think I agree with "perfectly balanced" - it is very middle-of-the-road series (which might be one of the reasons for it's popularity). Nothing is out of ordinary but everything is well-done and "wholesome".
I like world-building too! There are some wonderfully detailed secondary characters in the books, I agree.
