I am staying away from the spoilers for the episodes 9 and 10 of "Boys over Flowers" (I know the main direction from previous versions) because I promised my daughter yesterday to watch them together when subtitles are out. Parental love is the strongest thing in the world.

Also - I am hugely obsessed with Mei-chan no Shitsuji (Mei-chan's butler). Why no-one is watching this??? It has a spunky spectacles-wearing girl with a dedicated super-butler caring for all her needs?????????????

I'm watching this too! It's so cute, isn't it? And the guy from Hana Kimi looks much more attractive in this than he ever did in any of Hana Kimi.

I am so glad you are watching! It has such a crazy premise but I am just loving it. I remember the guy from in Zettai Kareshi (he was very pretty!) but I don't rememebr him in Hana kimi at all. MUST RE_WATCH.

I love the girl playing Mei. She doesn't come off too "cute for the sake of being cute". And the guy playing the butler is SO PRETTY. If Japan ever does a live action of any guy-crossdressing-as-girl manga, the HAVE to have him in it.

I do like the chemistry the actors have going on, but I hate Rihito's younger brother. I just can't stand him.

Me too! The girl is lovely but not "too cute", I like the personality she projects the most (normal girl with a bit of character in a strange set of circumstances but wanting to do the best). The guy is sooooooo pretty and they have stacks of chemistry. The younger brother is a pest, but he is comic relief character and Asian drama comic relief characters often annoy me (as, for example, the whole Jan Di's family does too).

I read that she was also in ProDai and couldn't believe it. She looked SO different in that.

I keep wanting to beat the younger brother with a broom. Which is strange since I don't usually get that urge, but MY GOD GO AWAY PLEASE.

I WANT TO CUT HIS HAIR too, but the same goes (in a lesser degree) for everyone in this drama. But yep, he kind of looks quite dim.

I want to dye his hair back to black. Sorry kid, orange is not your color.

** agrees heartily ** I really not keen on the orange dye. I think Ji Hoo could have been prettier without too. :D

I'm not a big fan of the orange die. I particularly hate it when actors with darker skin-tones die their hair that carroty orange color. Ugh.

I think the actor who plays Ji Hoo is going to have a hell of a time not being typecast as the pretty boy in dramas. I've read articles about how he gets so annoyed when people think he's feminine, because he's not AT ALL. I read that and thought, Yeah, Princess, SURE. No one is more macho than Ji Hoo.

Hee! You made me laugh so hard. He is indeed such a girly boy! Neither Oguri Shun nor Vic Zhou were nowhere as girly.

I wish in Korean BOB they did something innovative and brought Ji Hoo and Seo Hyun back together. I always wanted them to be together at the end.

I like the idea of Ji Hoo and Seo Hyun together. I think they've only stayed together in the anime version.

The only thing I really want for BOF is for there not to be a love triangle. Ji Hoo isn't my favorite version of Rui, but as long as he's not being an OTP interloper I'm fine with his character.

There was an anime version too???? With Ji Hoo and Seo Hyun????

Re: love triangle. I wonder how this will go. In both previous versions it was cler whom Shinkai/Makino preferred, though I loved Rui so much I couldn't see how anyone could not have chosen HIM.

Yeah. I haven't seen it, but Dangermousie posted something once about how it was the only version where Rui and Shizuka got together.

The only version where I've loved Rui as much as Doumyouji was in the J-drama. I thought Oguri Shun was excellent in that. And hot, though only in the second season. It's probably been one of the few times where I've found orange hair attractive.

YESS! This is the version I meant too. As much as I like Vic Zhou, he was too limp as Lei (IMHO). Oguri Shun, on the other hand, does that introvert/cool as ice/mysterious/elegant thing to perfection. And because Japanese Tsukasa was sooooo ugly I just was rooting for Oguri Shun as Rui all the way, orange hair or not.

TOTALLY. And he had so much chemistry with everyone that I never minded it when he got in between the OTP.

omg, I want to kill Jan Di's family. I hate that we have to waste precious minutes watching them when I could be watching F4 instead.

And , really, they are out of the better set of comic relief character. I liked Jan Di's fater in many other dramas (though I like him less in BBF).

How old is Sasha again? She watches subtitles? TOO CUTE.

She is 9 now, she has been asking to watch things with me for a while and have been creeping her way into some "sfare" anime (like Bleach). Asian dramas are usually "safer" than Western shows so I decided to try her on "Hanadan". She seems to love it. Her reading is good, so she doesn't seem to have problems with subs.

That's so awesome. I know adults who refuse to watch foreign movies because they don't want to deal with subtitles. (Although one guy just has a really difficult time reading and another is dyslexic so it requires far too much effort.)

I know some people that have problems too. In Russia, they usually dub foreighn films/dramas onto Russian, but I prefer subtitles myself, I like to hear the actual actor's voices. :D

Because I'm suddenly watching far to many dramas plus couple of western shows for a good measure and privileged schoolkids (other than in BBF) don't reeeally interest me right now. I may check it out at some later point when I'm more inclined to cutness overload topped with Japanese quirks. ;)

I like "Mei-chan" for being so girl-centric and also for the fact that the herouine (admittedly cute) is NORMAL. I remember what you said about the recent jdrama trend of all every character being strange in some way, I started noticing it too. :D

I am a bit "low" on Korean dramas at the moment, it is only BBF. :D but it is a good one - thank you for recommending it!

The currently ongoing k-dramas are not all that interesting really. Save for BBF and perhaps Iljimae. And that one does not have subs. I'm still going to see if I'll like it enough to watch it raw. Well, it's subbed in Viikii but I hate the vid quality there and Iljiame looks so gorgeous. I'm about to do a writeup on an older k-drama (Over the Rainbow) I watched recently and really liked. Not sure if it's your thing though.

Actually, I am watching another ongoing k-drama besides BBF, 'My Beloved Children/My Precious You. ;P Yeah, Korean soap, LOL! But I'm rather liking it so far. And it has Ji Hyun Woo who was also in My Sweet Seoul and OtR. I sure keep following these guys around.... XD

Ji Hyun Woo is dreamy, one of the actors I also like in everything. I really wish more of the longer dramas were subbed, like "Family Honour".

I am also so-so about viikii, I mostly have enough will power to wait.

I was about to start My Belowed Children raw when I noticed Aja-Aja also has hardsubbed episodes! Apparently there is a subbing group that took on this reeeally long (50 episodes) weekend drama. 20 epis done so far. It's been quite entertaining... yeah, I ended up watching about 14 episodes in a row yesterday. XD Talk about JHW being dreamy, omo! He's bit of a jerk in this one but not a bad person really. The main OTP is lovely. The male lead is so sweet (he's a single dad) and has a witch of an ex-wife (she needs to be strangled) - I see plenty of angst ahead. LOL!

No group has so far taken on Iljimae, so there's no knowing if it'll ever get proper subs.

Date: 2009-02-10 01:21 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com
This sounds great - I might check it up, after all .:D

Fingers crossed for Iljimae - is it just me or it seems that there is less interest in subbing Korean dramas lately? I am still waiting for "Star's lover" to be subbed. ** sigh **

Give it a try, it's not bad for a soap. And it's quite funny in places too. It really is a story about families.

Btw have you seen Over the Rainbow yet? I really need to do that rec, it keeps writing itself in my head. So annoying! ;P

Yeah, it does seem like quite few of the k-dramas are ignored lately. Maybe the groups have lost subbers so can't take on as many as before.

Oh, I am so glad you watch it! Hiro is very very pretty - where this pretinness came from? He is nothing to look at in Japanese "Hana Kimi"!!

Date: 2009-02-09 06:03 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] allbloomedout.livejournal.com
I agree! I didn't find him all that pretty in HanaKimi either. He was also pretty in Zettai Kareshi. :) I also love Jutta Yuki in the drama, the one that plays Kiba. He's so adorable! :)

He was indeed pretty in Zettai Kareshi (although I haven't finished it because it looked like the girl is NOT going to choose him). Kiba is wonderful, and I also like Aoyama.
