alexandral: (Generation Kill - Brad - sceptical)
[personal profile] alexandral
The episode was somewhat anti-climatic for me. Everyone is affected by the events in the episode 3, everyone is disgruntled to some degree and most of all Nate who seems to have changed in a totally different man overnight. Hmm.

We get to know more of Captain Patterson, the Alpha commander, who appears to be a good and decent guy in an understated way. I keep imagining that he has a home with a nice wife and kids to go back to. He is good at what he does but this is not everything in his life.

We are through more than a half of the miniseries; it seems as if the entire American army is in Iraq now and they just keep bumping into each other because there is NOT ENOUGH place in the land for so many American troops. There are not enough of things for them to do and kill, so some unnecessary missions are invented. Also, unlike in the WW2 movies, there seems to be no clear purpose for them all to be there and I think this shows.

But still - can Brad to be any more awesome? And can this episode not to be a good one as he spends a half of it gorgeously disgruntled and a half of it half-naked? And also Rudy is absolutely awesome too?

Sgt. Colbert! I love him. I did not catch last night's ep. I'm hoping someone will upload it, especially now that I've seen these. Heheh.

I'm also quite fond of Cpl. Garza. Hee.

My absolute favourites are Sgt. Colbert, Lieutenant Fick and Doc. But I am fond of Cpl.Garza too - he seems to be a laid-back guy. A good quality for a guy operating a big gun, I guess!

I also "love to hate" Sixta and Captain Amerixca, but Captain Encino Man is so boring in his incompetency!!

I know this is based on a real story and real people, but I so wish someone would stuff a grenade down Captain America's shorts! OMG, he is so ridiculous! Sixta, otoh, is really amusing. :D

I like fick a lot, too. He's very sensible. Conversations between him and Colbert is good times. :)

Garza does seem like a quality guy but, mostly?, is very pretty. ^ ^

This is what I can't get my head round - this is about REAL people. Captain America sits at home and I guess.. what does he think about it all? As Brad said - "from now on we all have to earn our stories". In some way I even feel for "real" Captain America.

Sixta is a mixture of hilariously funny and deadly annoying for me.

Garza does seem like a quality guy but, mostly?, is very pretty. ^ ^

Hee - is this why they made him lose the helmet? :D

Hee - is this why they made him lose the helmet? :D

Heee, yes, probably! I admit, it was after the helmet was off that I realized his adorableness.

Yeah, I can't imagine what it's like for the real guys to see this, especially the one's that look like jerks or idiots.

Me too! Was there something to do with his conversation with Sixta?

Yep, And even the ones who come out as good - what is it for them to become non-anonymous anymore, overnight? And also, how is it going to affect them to see themselves the way the others see them?

COuld have been in part his conversation with Sixta, the way Sixta was so hard on him you couldn't help but feel for the guy!

To me this felt largely like a transition episode, and in that respect I think it did its job nicely. Though it is worth noting that it had a different director.

As for Nate I took his behaviour as a sign that after the events in last episode he is trying to distance himself from the men, and being their commanding officer instead of their friend. A tactic that is necessary I think, but that must leave him very lonely.

But what can I say - I loved it. How could I not given the excellent amount of Brad time? ;)

Though it is worth noting that it had a different director.

That might be it, it just felt as if the drive has gone, but I agree that this could be intentional. After all - everyone is just about to be getting tired, the rations are low, etc.

As for Nate I took his behaviour as a sign that after the events in last episode he is trying to distance himself from the men, and being their commanding officer instead of their friend. A tactic that is necessary I think, but that must leave him very lonely.

It is this of course, and for any manager there is a time when you have to distance yourself. But it also feels as if he is bitter, he is not rolling his eyes anymore at the stupidity of his superiors, his face is angry.

Now, Brad is angry too and he has a time of thinking but he gets out of it as soon as he is needed.

And I am very glad that grooming standards didn't interfere with the awesome shirtless scene. :D

I'm reading "One Bullet Away" now. Here's what Fick himself writes about that incident:

As darkness fell over Qalat Sukkar, I sat alone in the dim green light of the radios. I felt sick for the shepherd boys, for the girl in the blue dress, and for all the innocent people who surely lived in Nasiriyah, Ar Rifa, and the other towns this war would consume. I hurt for my Marines, goodhearted American guys who'd bear these burdens for the rest of their lives. And I mourned for myself. Not in self-pity, but for the kid who'd come to Iraq. He was gone. I did all this in the dark, away from the platoon, because combat command is the loneliest job in the world.

You don't even know how awesome you are - I have been so craving "Generation Kill" talk!!!

I absolutely love the passage, and to be fair to him , Stark Sands really gives the feeling of "the switch has been switched". His ideas met the reality and in reality there is bitterness and regrets.

For one thing, I am pretty sure I would have never be able or wanted to be in the situation these guys are in myself.

I think I have seen them on the official GK site (which is an awesome site, very well-done). I like Alex speaking with American accent and I LOVE the way he pronounces his surname in "I am Alexander Scarsgard". :D

OK...I've been to the official GK site and watched everything there. I agree about listening to Alex say his name. He's just so absolutely adorable. I can't wait until Nov. 25 when HBO airs this again. *sigh*

...excellent American accent that only slips when they talk about porn.

How funny. Maybe he couldn't concentrate on the accent while thinking about porn. LOL

Alex said in an interview I read somewhere that he worked "intensely" with a coach to perfect an American accent. His accent on True Blood sounds American, too, but he started filming that immediately after GK, so it was probably still fresh in his mind.

In interviews and on DVDs where he speaks English, I've very rarely heard a Swedish accent slip in. He probably started learning English at age six. I think kids in the Scandanavia countries start English as soon as they start school. Maybe he started even earlier since his father speaks perfect English.
