In the manga I got to the point where Kaname killed the pureblood woman that had killed Zero's parents(I suck with names -.-), and the anime ends more or less there (I hadn't read about Zero biting Kaname yet). About the characters depth, I think it's the same for Kaname; though I didn't like him much in the manga nor in the anime, I think the manga character was done a lot better (more depthful, stronger personality, etc). Dunno, in the anime he seemed pretty much dull most of the time :/
