Iron Man!!!!!!!!
May. 5th, 2008 06:41 pmWhen I see the position "Iron Man" takes in the IMDB's "top 250 movies" list I can't help but think "Oh, what is this world is coming to?" thoughts. Nonetheless, I enjoyed every bit of it, every flash of it's CGI explosions and every drop of Robert Downey Jr's sweat. There isn't much to say concerning the plot, it was mind-numbing and the highlight of it was the idea that making weapons is a bad thing. But this film wasn't about the plot, it was about the good looking special effects and they were delivered.
The winning move of the film creators was to have such an excellent and drop dead gorgeous actor as Robert Downey Jr to play a genius scientist Tony Stark with the physique to match his brains. He, who can build a mini-nova reactor in a cave and stick it in his own heart, whilst displaying his exemplary arms covered in sweat and blood. He was just like Prometheus of our times. And if you (like me) are secretly hankering after a fictional robot-boyfriend or two you would truly appreciate the stylishly looking new invention of Tony Stark's. Ladies! Meet Iron Man! He is shiny, slit-eyed, gruff-voiced and can fly!
Some other good points to mention will be the music score and Gwyneth Paltrow wearing the highest heels you can imagine. To summarize, if you are looking for a family film that you as well as your teenager children can enjoy, this is a good one.
Update: How could have forgotten him! I was reminded by
the_reverand about many fantastic qualities of Terrence Howard and his Colonel Rhodes. May be he will also become an Iron Man if "Iron Man 2" is ever made?

Date: 2008-05-05 06:35 pm (UTC)Perhaps I will go see it tonight. It's playing at the Uptown Theater (http://cinematreasures.org/theater/70/) in DC, which is sickeningly right across the street from my apartment.
I was an idiot and missed the final cut of Blade Runner there.

Date: 2008-05-05 06:47 pm (UTC)Oh, I didn't know this, thank you for letting me know. I thought Paltrow was excellent, arch, sweet and really beautiful. I think she is a better choice for me. She is older and it seems more believable to have her as someone who worked with Tony for ages.
This movie seems to become quite big so I would imagine I could be "biting my elbows" if I was McAdams.
I totally rec to watch this as a pick-me-up.

I was surprised when I saw Paltrow but she and RDJ were great together. :)
The word "chemistry" is used too often sometimes, but they definitely had it. She also looked very pretty with her ginger hair.
I liked his robot helpers, too.
Sasha loved them. She is insisting that I find a picture with the moment when Stark feel on the top of his car and the squirty thingy squirted gas.. :D

My daughter loved his dialogues with his machines the most. They reminded me of "Blade Runner" somehow.

Date: 2008-05-05 08:06 pm (UTC)I've always loved Robert Downey Jr and this looks like just the right type of fun for me now. My finals are in two weeks, so I'm pretty much stuck behind towers of books, but I think a bit of Iron Man will do me the world of good. ;P

Date: 2008-05-08 11:20 am (UTC)And I always like it when there is a little bit after the titles. O don't know why exactly, but I just feel like it is an extra surprise.
And since you like it I'll check out Zodiac. I have been a bit unsure, because I'm not that fond of serial killers. But R.Downey jr. sounds good. ;)

Oh, it is an excellent and clever film, very noir and retro-feel. it is not as much about serial killer as about people involved in the hunt. (R.Downey jr. is NOT a serial killer, he is a journalist investigating the story :D)

Date: 2008-05-24 01:42 pm (UTC)I can understand Sasha, because those were some loooong titles. I went to see the film with my sister-in-law who is 16, and she kept looking at me like I was a bit crazy when we were the only ones left in the theatre. Then Samuel L. Jackson appeared and all was forgiven. ;)
But I really liked this film. I was just fun, and well made - and I felt like the whole cast worked. (though it took me ages to recognise Jeff Bridges. That man is a chameleon!) And, just as you promised, Robert Downey Jr. was great. Wheee!

Date: 2008-05-24 10:16 pm (UTC)He played Obidahia Stane (or however you spell that name). I took me well over fifteen minutes to realise it was him.
