Bae Yong Yoon : the blue cardigan of worry
My admiration for this guy knows no bounds but the latest pictures of him and his blue cardigan makes me worried:

I need your opinion on this. To participate you don't have to be a fan of Bae Yong Joon or even know who he is. The gender of participants is not important too. (But please be kind – I lurve him :D)

"The blue cardigan" picture is apparently one of the first of him standing by himself again.

Well, I think the colour is okay, though the cut of the sweater is what I really don't like... and the glasses, I love those kind of glasses on some men, but I think this one should rather go with another kind.

yes, any Doctor who could have pulled it off. :D I think I don't like the whole combination. Looks male frumpy to me.

ЗЫ: Они ничего не понимают в красивых азиатских мужчинах! :) Женственный, вишь ли... Бисёнэн по-корейски! Красивый парнишка. У него волосы в хвостик, что ли завязаны?

I am not sure about the blue cardigan, though!

hair, glasses, skin, smile, even his pecs look more like small boobs.
but I voted no for the cardigan, so you can blame it on that.

There is a very popular direction of male beauty in Asia, particular in Japan, where it is considered very beautiful (particular for young boys) to look androgynous. This has historical and cultural roots and is sometimes very interesting ..

There's really no point to this, other than I really need to watch some of these asian dramas. I still haven't, despite much teaching by you and your friends on how and where to get them.

And as a glasses-wearer myself, I consider this pair to be actually quite cute!

I don't doubt Bae Yong Joon's manliness. He can look super hot and very male/hunky when he wants to. Perhaps his softer image is made to cater the older/mature demographics (I hear that he is really huge with the older generations in Japan and Korea).
As for the picture above. I don't like the colour, but perhaps the cut is not too bad. In a different, darker colour I think it wouldn't be too bad and I wouldn't mind my significant other to wear something like that. The glasses I am rather indifferent about. It's just 'okay' but he could look younger with a more 'modern' frame. This shoot must be for a newspaper ad or something. Bae looks like he's just had a shower and is about to read the morning papers and eat breakfast on the table with his wife and 2 children *laughs*
Bottom line. I don't hate the pic. But I've seen better. Keep the 'better' ones coming, why don't you, Bae! ^^

Yes, I guess actors have to do these things. I could be considered an "older lady" too though I prefer manly style (but I love his long hair). But snooping around Korean forums and blogs I notice that they have a whole big issue with ajumamas (old ladies) . I don't notice such discrimination against us (:D) in the Western media. Over-30 ladies are usually prime audience here..
This and the "small face" beauty standard really puzzle me.
I don't like the style in the picture - he looks too much a girl there , I must admit!

What's the "small face" beauty philosophy, btw? I haven't heard that before :D

Me too!!! I like BYJ in The Legend and since that's his latest work then I am fine with the image I am left with, LOL ^^

Hee! Mee to! Especially considering the "virtual" character of the modern-day media.
As to actors' age - this really makes me think. Among Japanese (and particular, Korean) dramas it is a rarity to see a drama with actors around 40 in the lead roles. Japanese dramas are less like that, I think. There are more "mature" theme dramas. Take "Karei naru", "SP" just out of the top of my head. The new Takuya's drama "Change" too. In Korean dramas older actors move into supporting category. I wonder why.
As to JE boys - there is a similar thing here in the UK too. They call them "boy bands" that attract huge following of teenage girls. Judging by ratings of few JE boys dramas they are not as popular drama-wise with general population as Takuya, for example.

I came across this in blogs, I think. It seems to be considered beautiful to have as small face as possible (for ladies) in Korea. I noticed few jokes about it in dramas too.

Exactly. Dian suggested that they are trying to appeal to the older audience but I am "the older" audience and I am not impressed. :D
