I was looking for some fairytales for my daughter. One of my forever favourite fairytales is "The Snow Queen" by Hans Christian Andersen; it is my special winter holidays story. We used to watch it as children, year after year and never get tired of it. I was searching for an English translation of this story and I found one Here, with breathtaking and thoughtful illustrations by Vladislav Yerko, a famous Ukranian illustrator.

Vladislav Yerko was born in Kiev in 1962. He graduated from Kiev's Polygraphic University. He is famous for his outwordly beautiful illustrations to fairytale books but he is known to be a quiet man who avoids media attention. Vladislav received the main "Book of the year 2000" award for his illustrations to "The Snow Queen".

My favourite illustration from "The Snow Queen" is below. It captures the essence of the character of The Snow Queen for me, her beauty, cold and emptiness.

"The Snow Queen" illustrations. All my favourite characters are there!

Illustrations from children's "Tales of Foggy Albion" book. 0

"Foggy Albion" is the way Britain is called in Russia. :D This is because it was named like this in one of Pushkin's poems but I may be wrong. The correct translation of the book's title is : "British Knight Tales". Many knights and ladies whom I don't recognise at all. The guy with a green clover leaf in his hand must be St. Patric, I guess.. It would be great to know who the rest of the knights are, if anyone has any idea I'll be eternally grateful. I am particular mesmerised by the green-faced lady with a big dog..

Illustrations from children's "Ukranian fairytales" book.

Similar to Russian fairy tales humour and satire play a big part in the traditional Ukranian fairytales. And big mighty warriors, of course!

I have made some icons, preview:

Oh, that never works for me, hah. I would have to tell you all of them! (: (: (: You see, I make icons too. But I really LOVE getting icons from other people and love seeing their cropping and whatnot. But I noticed that a lot of the people who do art or illustrated icons don't do as many as, say, the people who use movies or photographs or something. I like to see a lot of different options. :D But I know not everyone has time for that. I just really loved the illustrations and always love to find great icons. (: I've already uploaded some of the icons you posted, though. Buttttt there was a particular illustration I remember really liking...it was the girl sitting down and looking a bit gloomy, and there was a big ol' interesting raven near her. In the icon you made, only the girl showed. I figure it's probably because the cropping might be difficult to include the raven, but if you could get more of the picture in to the icon, I would like to see what you make with that particular illustration. Really, though, I'm just a sucker for art icons and want to see as much as possible, heh. :D

One of my absolute favorite communities for art icons is [livejournal.com profile] mypixelheart, but she tends to make very small posts sometimes. It's lovely, and I appreciate all of the work, haha, but I am gluttonous when it comes to art icons. :D I always want more, more, more! (:

I usually also don't make big posts of icons, I guess I like to give my all to everyone of them and choose only the best ones.

Do you mean this illustration? I'll make some different ones tomorrow..

No, this (http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o51/alexandraleaving/yerko/y_ice_11.jpg) one. It's alright, you don't have to. I just think having lots of options is nice. (:

I think perhaps 'untasted' was referring to the one of Gerda and the raven.? :)
