BSG Unfinished business

I am back to watching "Battlestar Galactica". I have also watched Korean film "The Host" today and it was so good and absolutely not "just horror", but rather a dark comedy and scarily truthful investigation of society. But more about this later, BSG!! I haven't watched it for about 4 weeks and absolutely despaired that things will ever be good. But amazingly, the creators pulled the rabbit out of the hat and explained it all (at least for me)
For me, this episode made the perfect sense and explained all the things which were niggling me. I have never believed that Kara was truly in love with Anders, and I could not understand where all her feelings for Lee gone in one minute. But they were always there!! "Kara Thrace loves Lee Adama" and this is all that matters for me. The rest of her behavior is just down to her usual problems - "Everyone I love will die a horrible death". Her psychological problems lie so deep, and the mind-games that Leoben played made them much worse.
And though admittedly the fact that she just run away from her feelings for Apollo after they slept together in a field and into the arms of Anders doesn't make her "a good person", it doesn't mean also that she wanted to hurt Lee intentionally. What had happened is that she finally gave in to her feelings for him because she was drunk and because for a minute she forgotten her scary thoughts "everyone I love must die", And them - BAM! The moment she said "Kara Thrace loves Lee Adama" is the moment when everything went wrong. She admitted it, loudly, for herself and for Lee. And even her face changed, like they used to say in the olden days, "her countenance fell", because what is left then - Lee is going to die due to the fact that she is a curse for everyone she loves??
And of course she run away with probably one thought in her mind "Even though Lee will hate me, he will be better off elsewhere". And yes, poor Anders, but at the same time - is he some kind of a calf to be dragged into the hasty "let's do it this minute" marriage? The way he spoke about the marriage to Lee didn't indicate any deep feelings for me; and what a horribly sad moment it was for Lee!! To discover that his love got herself quickly married an hour after they slept together.
I guess, in this episode I just saw the full extent of Starbuck's psychological condition and I feel very sad for her now, there doesn't seem to be a way towards the happiness for her at all. I thought Lee was very dignified , especially during the scene when he discovered that Kara got herself married in an hour. He was so broken, but he had strength to say "Congratulations" to Anders. And I really loved that he was so open and happy about his feelings. If she just let him. And I loved even more the fact that they just could not stay away from each other for long, even after all the heartbreak, the way they were hugging each other after the boxing was OMPH so intense. "I missed you" Kara said first, and Lee answered "I missed you too", and again "I missed you too". This all makes me cry!!
PS: I find the "field" detail to be very romantic. :D

I may come across as a total wuss, but I cried my eyes of during those last minutes of the episode, literally! It's such a powerful moment full of raw emotions. OMG! Now I wonder where they do go from there, I hope that thay are friends again with a lot of UST, and that they don't jump into a rushed affair or something... thoug I'm sure that whatever tptb have in store for those two, it's going to be all kinds of angsty and messed up... and I CAN'T WAIT!!!

Date: 2006-12-05 10:51 am (UTC)I felt for poor Anders so much there too, and even more for Dee. Not because I don't like Anders, I learned to like him very much now, when he is "just he", a great, strong and very attractive guy who just doesn't happen to share that " big feeling" with Kara (and who does?), but it doesn't make him any worse. I see for him much scope for character development and agst ahead. I think I finally need an Anders icon. I must go and scout around your LJ. :D But Dee - she did invest so much into her marriage, and I just could imagine if this was MY HUSBAND there on the rink. ** sighs **

I am back to trusting the creators, because they did make it all right!!! I prefer friendship with a lot of UST, but I don't really see how Lee and Kara can keep hands off each other. It feels like they would be standing there forever in embrace, if they could. ** sniff **
And YAY! You were always optimistic!!!

Date: 2006-12-05 04:25 pm (UTC)Regarding Anders and Dee, I feel so sorry for them, and especially for Dee. I mean, Anders seems more independent and emotionally stronger, and that was pretty clear at that final scene, when he beholds the HUGH and realizes of it all... he is able to walk away and be all "Frak that"... On the other hand, Dee seems to love Lee so much and in a way she has that hero worship going on, ... watcing those too on the ring sharing that powrful moment so full of raw feelings and emotions must have killed her... I think that's way worse that catching your husband in bed with someone, because that is not just sex is some kind of love, possession, and obsession Lee and Kara share that is so deep and frakked up. Guuuuh! I'm not very coherent here, because you know I'm all about Lee/Kara...

I guess he did suspect something, and must have been for quite a while, though only surfaced in this episode. But yes, at the moment when he just was able to walk away, I totally started liking him a great deal. As a hopeless shipper I am, I want now a nice girl to appreciate his greatness. Kat will do, for example, I hope she is still alive!!!

I absolutely agree - the fact is that nothing really will be the same now. And though Lee is my favourite character - poor, poor Dee. But I don't think Lee even noticed Dee was there, he could not stop looking at Starbuck ALL THE TIME!!!

I still can't believe that all my shippy prayers were answered!
