+ EEEEEEE! I have gotten a new computer at work and it has big LCD screen and it is lovely! Even better – I can take the old one home (we are allowed :) for the "Staff Development Purposes". EEEE!

+ Sasha has joined the school choir!!! She also lost her front baby teeth! She has been waiting for this event for ages because she wants to go and learn a brass instrument in the local brass band, and they only take children when their front adult teeth are grown.

+ OK – this is embarrassing but Sasha still sucks her thumb and I don’t really know what to do to get her out of the habit. She is doing it much much less now , but still. I explained to her that her teeth will grow crooked but it doesn’t help completely. The thing I think – WILL THEY GROW CROOOKED or not?

+ I finally realised that the main and only interest I have in Prison Break is forbidden love between Michael and Sara. I watched episode 2.5 in the “fast” mode as it felt totally empty for me. No Michael/Sara. ** Sigh **

+ This article I came across during the lunch break and it disturbed me a little: Swiss organisation, Dignitas, is asking the Swiss Supreme court to allow a change in the law and allow depressed people access to barbiturates without the need for a prescription with the purpose of committing suicide. But shouldn’t depressed people receive treatment? Is the suicide a really valid exit for someone who is disturbed mentally? And what if they will fell better after they receive treatment?. I don’t understand.

+ I am trying to get myself out of the Jerry Yan/Meteor Garden mood by downloading "Silence" (Thank you very much [livejournal.com profile] dangermousie. But I keep having flash-backs and an intense desire to watch the new Taiwanese drama with Jerry, The Hospital/White Tower My problem is that I can’t find any subtitles for this drama (or even episode scripts) so I just resort to looking at the pretty pictures :

Two pictures from The Hospital (taken from soompi forums):

Awwwwwwwww:

And THE SHOWER SCENE !!!!

+ I really really want to go and see Pedro Amodovar’s film "Volver" this weekend. I love Amodovar and the film sounds really good!!!

+ EEEEEEEEEE! I am so much looking forward to "Jane Eyre" this weekend too!!!

I'm not sure if thumb sucking will mess up her teeth. It might depend on the age. Like I don't think it would matter with baby teeth, but with adult teeth it might matter. If I had to guess I'd say it's a comfort thing.

OK I looked it up and found this web site (http://www.drgreene.com/21_856.html).
And here's another web site on how to stop thumb sucking (http://la.essortment.com/stopthumbsucki_rhxo.htm). I didn't read this second web site so I'm not sure if they have a good solution. But it wouldn't hurt to take a look.

My daughter had a pacifier up until she was about 3 1/2 or 4 years old I think. (I know, a long time.) People have differing opinions about pacifiers. But I let my daughter have one because it comforted her and I didn't want her to suck her thumb. My reasoning was I can eventually take the pacifier away, but not the thumb. lol
I finally got her to give up the pacifier by telling her that we had to send them to the "pacifier fairy" and she totally bought it. I couldn't believe it worked so well. Hee.

Thinking logically I don't think her thumb-sucking is so bad as to affect her teeth she is old enough to think about her "image" (she doesn't want to look as a baby .. :) and not to do it in public. But when she forgets - before sleep, dozing in the car she does it. I think I am just paranoid about certain thing and because I had to wear braces as a child I really don't want her to end up having the braces.

There are some good advices on the websites and really speaking this is what I do. Her thumb-sucking gone down mightily. One of the things that were advised I am not sure if I want to do - withdrawal of her comfort toy. Sasha has one (a tiger called Stripy). But may be I will have to.

Sasha had a dummy when she was little, but at the age of ~ 6 month she started throwing it away and sucking her thumb :(

I guess her thumb tasted better. :)

I don't agree with taking away comfort toys. But that's me. I don't care what the experts say. :)

My daughter is 12 and she goes to sleep fine on her own. But sometimes she will sleep with a stuffed dog. *shrug*

If she is trying to stop on her own she will probably do it. She just needs time perhaps.

I am also unsure about the toy. And Stripy is so cool in its own way!! I like cuddly toys myself. Oh, I will just try the power of persuasion. She is old enough.

I had one who sucked 2 fingers, five who took pacies. Rule was when "baby teeth fall out" paci/ fingers go, because, you aren't a "baby" anymore. I'm with realtanala - experts don't know much about MY children :g: We had one night of fuss or bother here and there, but that was all.

My Eldest Daughter - the finger gal - put scotch tape on her fingers before she went to bed, but it stuck to the covers & got in her hair because she went Nuts with it ::giggle:: so then, she tried a Foofy Barbie Band Aid - after a couple nights, she forgot she needed the Fancy Band Aid and hasn't had trouble since. She was Six - she is Sixteen now. A lovely person, still sleeps with the blanket I brought her home from the hospital in tucked in her pillow and "caresses" it in her sleep. No One Cares & it's none of their business if they do. Today, she is making mandarin chicken legs - with Straight Healthy Teeth, HONEST.

Ask Sasha how SHE'd like to handle it, kids come up with creative ideas - some a bit toooooo elaborate like my daughters scotch tape stuck to the pillow thing - but you're there to offer a more Realistic approach . Like realtanala, I wouldn't take the Comfort Item away while trying to break another comfort "habit". That would be like giving up coffee AND chocolate on the same day & going for a 10 mile jog in bare feet instead! omigoshno! :g:

Fancy band aid sounds cool! I will ask Sasha what she wants to do but I feel that the band-aid idea is a winner. I wasn't worried that much myself before but now when the teeth feel out I must! Like a responsible mother :).

Stripy is so cute that I will not want to separate with him EVER :). SHe had an camel at first but he was transformed into the tiger long ago.

::grin:: "responsible mother" who would ever expect that phrase to be a blah phrase for such a blessing though?

Sock puppet over the hand is an idea the gal who runs the 2nd hand store next door used for her son - alligator sock puppet she said he Still has it and he's in his 30's, it's stitched on a quilt she made him. I thot that was such a groovy idea.

We had a chat yesterday and Sasha thinks that the sock puppet is a great idea. :) . She doesn't want Stripy to go on "holidays" as well - "Can I still be sniffing his ear! she says ** grin **

My niece is 17 now and she still has pieces of the blanket she slept with as a baby and she still sleeps with them. Hee. You're right, no one has to know.

I thought the same thing as you. If the comfort toy is taken away she might suck her thumb more.

So funny that the Barbie band aid worked. :)

OK, I want to see Tne Hospital now. Argh. I really really wish some subbers group would pick it up. :(

Me too :) I need to stop looking at the pictures.:)

Yes - there is a post with the synopsis of first 4(?) episodes, but it isn't much. :(. I saw the good post with the download links (youtube and torrents)for all episodes of The Hospital though :

Thanks for the links! I've watched stuff unsubbed before *coughSilencecough* so I am very tempted to do this with this...

Why doesn't anyone want to sub it. Whyyyyyyy?

So am I! I also admit that I like hospital dramas in general - it is always about the matter of life and death. And on a shallow note doctors usually look good in their white robes. :)

Why doesn't anyone want to sub it. Whyyyyyyy?

Yesss! I saw something about the broadcasting of "The Hospital" in Japan. This is my hope for more exposure and subtitles.

hmm, my mom said that potentially teeth can grow up a bit crooked if the kid continuously sucks her thumb, but she said I did so when I was a little child *shame* and seemed not particularly worried... I don't know, in my opinion she'll stop soon, I think, but you should insist a bit with her ;)
I'm glad for Sasha joining the school choir!

In Russia parents usually were very strict and if the child still had dummy/thumb by the age of 2 they usually used "hard" methods including putting some mustard on above mentioned thumb. CRUEL! MAy because of this I never had dummy/thumb.

My friend's daughter stopped at 12. She is 21 now and looks fine to me :)

I think that she doesn't exaggerate, this won't be a problem ;)

What instrument does she want to play? What grade is she going into? Goodness, how exciting that she wants to play a brass instrument!

I don't know yet. When children start at the band they usually get to play a cornet. After a year or two they can decide what instrument they want to take seriously..

This is no guarantee, of course, but I sucked my thumb quite late in life - I think 'til at least 10 - and it did nothing at all to my teeth. I never needed braces or anything.

One of my friends used to suck her thumb until the respectable age of 17 and also don't seem to have any problems. Sometimes I think that I am trying too hard to conform to other people's expectations - my mother's for example . For myself I am not that worried about Sasha.
