One of the main things I remember about Cooper's books (and here I second queenofthorns ) that I found his way of writing very difficult and uninteresting. I may be found some of his story lines themselves interesting but not his prose. "The Last of the Mohicans" is one of the major books that was taught in school and this didn't help neither.
Actually, now that dangermousie reminded it, I am rather inclined to think that the way they changed Cora's beau from Uncas into Hawkeye is connected to some racially-related issues... But no, the film is still gorgeous!
