Of the ones I saw so far Bin-jip is my favourite movie from Kim Ki-duk (I also liked The Isle but not so much Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring and Samaria). It was just beautiful to watch. However, because of my old age I'm unable to comment in more detail on your spoiler paragraphs since I don't remember any details ;). I was hoping that the movie would turn up on TV by now so that I can watch it again, but so far no such luck.
What I can say is that I think Kim Ki-duk always shoots his movies in such a short period of time because he wants to stay independent and he also has to because of the lack of money (and by now probably also because he can). But of course that doesn's change the fact that it's a great achievement to make such a beautiful movie with so few shooting days. I can also tell you that Kim is Catholic hence the reason why he uses Christian symbols (wikipedia says there are about 26% Christians and the same amount of Buddhists in South Korea). :)
