It's quite strange that, although I'm usually not very fond of slash/incest fiction, the idea of Leto/Ghanima always attracted me. Perhaps because it's somehow quite canon-ish?
I an not that fond of slash/incest fiction neither but it is true – Leto and Ghanima are different. The whole universe is different in "Dune" and this may be the reason too.
Yes, I think both Alia and Irulan deserved better, but the whole Atreides family was struck by tragedy and drama, so I guess this was their destiny and it had to be fulfilled, for some kind of greater good. Although I'm not that sure of what the Bene Gesserit understood as "greater good".
This is what got me confused at the end – both Leto and Bene Gasserit were trying to achieve the best path for the humanity. And I really expected that Leto would do that but he didn't , at the end..
